Mission: Backcountry discovery routes is a 501(c)(4) non-profit organization whose mission is to establish and preserve off-highway routes for dual-sport and adventure motorcycle travel. Through education, advocacy, and promotion of responsible motorcycle travel, bdr seeks to preserve backcountry motorcycling opportunities for generations to come.
Programs: In 2017 bdr created a new motorcycle route across the states of virginia, west virginia, maryland and pennsylvania for dual-sport and adventure motorcycles. The project was called the mid-atlantic bdr and it involved creating a water-proof map of the route and producing a complete informational travel resource on the website. The organization also worked with an ad agency to market the brand in magazines, on social media and on the company website www. Ridebdr. Com. Other bdr accomplishments include a movie tour conducted in 45 cities across the usa, a fundraising event in california's mojave desert, and a fundraising drive in july using a new matching program. Additionally, the organization commissioned an economic impact study that demonstrated the millions of dollars being brought in tourism dollars to small communities along the route. The organization also developed the framework for an upcoming route in ca. Lastly, a new forum was created to allow users of the bdr routes to collaborate and share information about trip planning, route conditions, etc.
