This looks like more negativity from competing business owner Mike Rhyne, of Safe Ride America. Even though we have blocked him from Facebook, YouTube, etc., he continues to post lies about our company, probably because we have taken most of his business. This wasn't done by design, we just offer a better, more professional service at a better price. We also don't use community service volunteers to run our business, but actually use more reliable and professional paid drivers. That has paid off for DDA while Safe Ride continues to struggle.
Our non-profit status and taxes are all in order. His statement that it has been revoked twice is nothing more than a lie and he knows that, not sure why he keeps stating that. It was mistakenly revoked by IRS computers not long after we opened, but that was resolved as soon as we were notified of it and was reinstated retroactively back to the revocation date, so it was if it never happened. The computer did not see tax returns for 2008 and 2009, but we we were not operating yet in either year as we applied in 2008, weren't approved until 2009 and didn't start operating until 2010. So, Mr. Rhyne, once again you are trying to make a great big deal out of nothing, sort of like McDonalds did with the McDLT.
Again, if you will spend more time on your own business and less time on ours, maybe you can stay in business. You do need to lower your rates, pay your drivers more, and pay all your officers less though. That might buy you some more time, but you are on a downward spiral that you need to fix!
This organization has a very spotty history with its 501(c)(3) status. Although their status has been revoked at least twice (in 2011 and again in 2013) they have continued to assert their status as a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization.
Additionally, their nonprofit programs are not clearly charitable in nature:
- Designated Driver Alternative: although this program serves a necessary purpose their nonprofit status is questionable. They charge users $10 per trip + $2/mile + tips. They also sell "memberships" ranging in price from $50 - $2,000 annually.
- Atlanta Travel & Social Club: this program appears to be exactly as it name implies, a social club. The charitable purpose or goals are not clear. Their mission statement is: "Raising funds for various charities by offering group organized travel, social and golf events for singles and couples." The only 'charities' identified is Designated Driver Alternative (supra).
