Mission: The Appalachian RCD Council was formed in 1993 to address unmet needs in rural NE Tennessee. Our membership is composed of county governments, soil conservation districts and at large members of the community. We work to address issues where there is no existing infrastructure to meet the challenge and local citizens or groups are lacking in skills or organization. We generally provide technical fundraising assistance.
Programs: We provide conservation and environmental educational opportunities to hundreds of students and teachers on an annual basis. On a regular basis we assist with finding, securing and administering grants for entities lacking the capacity to do so. We advocate sustainable development of our natural resources and develop related educational programs along these lines. In Recent years our efforts have focused on the areas of farmland and open space protection, watershed planning & protection, rural tourism, agriculture enhancement and sustainable economic and community development.
