Alpha Omega Eta African Sorority Incorporated (AOH) is the first and currently the only sorority geared towards the needs and the interests of the African people both on the continent and in the Diaspora. But the ladies of AOH are not just African, they are the redefinition of Africa. AOH celebrates the African history, experience and the cultural diversity of all its members. The women of this organization are not defined by where they are geographically, but by the means in which they use their past experiences to shape the people they are today. They are the spirit of Africa which crosses geographic boundaries; timeless and limitless in all her endeavors. AOH engages in various community service activities to uplift the African community both on the continent and in the Diaspora, including the fun in the sun project, the dreamgirls mentoring program, the "its my decade" program, along with individual chapter service activities which directly impact local communities. I am so proud to be a woman of the only Sorority geared towards the needs and the interests of the African people.

The Lionesses (as we are called) have dedicated ourselves to serve as a breed of excellent women and leaders of integrity, vision, mission, and love, in lieu of the African history and experience.

The motivation is to encourage a breed of women leaders driven by such values as integrity and excellence, for the development of Africa and members the African Diaspora. I have had the opportunity to be impacted by the work of AOH as a sorority sister. For example, I have had many opportunities to exercise my leadership skills through especially community service. I have been mentoring two young girls through Dreamgirls for almost 3 years now; I also had the opportunity to organize the fundraiser charity ball, which supported women's reproductive health in Ethiopia. This has caused me to step up to the plate in regard to supporting my community, and the sense of fulfilment and purpose I have received, has given me confidence even in my profession and academic pursuits.
