Philosophy- children are special gifts and we will do everything in our power to support them during their critical stage in life. Programs: Albany county correctional facility for childrens benefit inc. Supported the following seriously ill children in 2016 (please visit www. Accfcb. Org for full explanations of their critical medical situations): james deere is a double amputee with an 'anoxic' (without oxygen) brain injury. He was a healthy, smart, vibrant, fun-loving boy until he was struck with a near fatal sepsis infection at 3 1/2 years old. He is still all the things i described, but now is trapped in a body devastated by sepsis. He is now healthy, but requires much care. He lost his ability of meaningful speech since the insult, but he continues to try to communicate. He is dependent on an adult for all tasks of daily living. James is in weekly physical therapy $1950 . Eva scotto was diagnosed with mitochondrial disease, an inherited chronic incurable disease. It effects her autonomic nervous system further causing her a gastrointestinal disorder and is legally blind. Further symptoms of this disease include poor growth, loss of muscle coordination, muscle weakness, hearing problems, learning disabilities, heart disease, liver disease, kidney disease, respiratory disorders, neurological problems and dementia. Eva was born 4 months premature on 12/4/07, weighing just 18 ounces. Eva is currently unable to attend school. She alternates periods where she is fed via iv or through a tube in her intestines. She will receive physical and occupational therapy when she is feeling well enough. She receives palliative care at albany medical center via a team of medical staff. She has undergone 13 surgeries and 30 hospitalizations. Eva does not tolerate the heat or cold very well and has issues regulating her vital signs. She tires easily and is totally incontinent. $151. 74 carter woods is a 2 year old vibrant boy. He was hospitalized with an infection in his lungs. Not knowing the outcome, his small family reached out to accfcb. Carter eventually overcame his illness and is currently is a happy, healthy toddler. $500 william kurlycheck suffers from global asphyxia, a lack of oxygen due to swallowing amniotic fluid at birth causing brain and neurological damage. This diagnosis effects his fine and gross motor planning abilities, speech and eye sight. Further compromised is his immune system causing frequent hospital stays for asthma, oxygen therapy, nebulizers, antibiotics and steroids. William will also require treatment for sleep apnea and corrective eye surgery. William suffers from frequent pneumonia due to low core strength causing his inability to cough up mucus leading to frequent battles with pneumonia.
