Causes: Environment, Land Resources Conservation
Mission: Atcas mission is to provide education, collaboration, and outreach to the tribal conservation districts in alaska to preserve and enhance the natural resources and traditional subsistence way of life.
Results: Since inception in 2011, Alaska Tribal Conservation Alliance(ATCA) has assisted in the formation of 10 TCD’s, making the total TCD count to 14. Alaska TCD’s are in their infant stage with the first Alaska TCD formed in 2005 about 50 years behind their lower 48 counterparts. ATCA and Tyonek Tribal Conservation District have traveled to 10 communities to provide short and long term natural resource planning, Board of Director development and by-law formation and budgets.
Target demographics: To improve the conservation and sustainable development of natural resources in Alaska, promote traditional subsistence activities, and improve the quality of life within Tribal Conservation Districts, serving Tribal Governments, Native Corporations and other stakeholders within the district
Geographic areas served: The State of Alaska
Programs: Atca outreached at various conferences such as bureau of indian affairs tribal providers, alaska forum for the environment, and alaska federation of natives providing information and education on tribal conservation district planning and development.
