Causes: Civil Liberties, Civil Rights
Mission: The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) is our nation's guardian of liberty, working daily in courts, legislatures and communities to defend and preserve the individual rights and liberties guaranteed to all people in this country by the Constitution and laws of the United States.
Results: The ACLU of Florida works on numerous cases every year in state and federal courts defending the civil liberties of Floridians across the state. With several attorneys on staff and numerous cooperating attorneys (attorneys in private practice who agree to work with the ACLU on a pro bono basis), we are able to have a far-reaching impact on the legal system, some of the greatest legal impact of any other civil rights or civil liberties organization based in Florida. We also file amicus (“friend of the court”) briefs in lawsuits and work with our volunteer ACLU chapters to file challenges that focus on local issues.
