We are one of the many organizations that receives help from this great nonprofit. With their help , we are able to continue to send out nutritional meals to our communities’ elderly and disabled, while keeping to our tight budget. From fresh fruit and vegetables to luncheon meats and noodles, our cook can create some yummy and unexpected meals.

412 Food Rescue makes it so easy to volunteer & have a tangible impact on people in need. I love that the app lets you preview exactly where and when food rescue routes are occurring that day, so you can check throughout the day if you have a spare 30 mins and there's one nearby! I finally claimed a weekly rescue from a GetGo a quarter mile off my daily commute into work that delivered to a housing community in the direction of my office - it's the perfect Wednesday morning routine, and only adds 10-15 mins to my day!

This is one of the most rewarding non-profits I have worked with not to mention the most organized and efficient. The app is so easy to use and there are opportunities to fit almost any geographical area as well as schedule. Today was perhaps one of my favorite rescues to date. My husband and I always look for available rescues while in the city. I claimed a rescue going to a low income high rise and the rescue was donated by the Heinz History Center. The security team as well as cafeteria staff were so welcoming, friendly and helpful and then when we took the generous donation to the high rise, the manager of the building shrieked with excitement to see the 15 boxes of food we brought her. She said that just this morning she reached out to 412 to see if there was any way they could help the residents and she was amazed that the very same day, not only 1 but 2 food deliveries came their way!! We could neither one contain our excitement!!

When I heard 412 Food Rescue's mission statement, I knew I HAD to get involved. I have been volunteering with this organization since 2016, and it is such a rewarding experience to not only divert possible waste in landfills, but to also be able to provide food to people who need it. The smiles and hugs are icing on the cake.

I have been a 412 Food Rescue volunteer for several years because it is so easy and so vital. Feeding people while preventing wasted resources is a win-win. Having the flexibility to volunteer when I have the time is icing on the cake. The staff is highly engaged, always willing to help with any issues, and super encouraging. 412 is constantly evolving, growing, and expanding their influence in new and dynamic ways. Get onboard and get involved!

Food Rescuing has been a part of my life for years, and the creation of 412 Food Rescue has brought kindness and good practices to the forefront. Because of their efforts, there is increased awareness of the waste, the need, and the benefits of gathering and distributing food to where it is needed. Since the establishment of 412, it has been my pleasure to share food with over 12 different agencies. St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Brookline hosted a pop up food share this past April during the covid 19 lockdown. It was a real joy talking to people and experiencing their gratefulness for such a small gesture. Thank you, 412!

I’ve had nothing but joy being a volunteer for 412 Food Rescue. Their mission of eliminating food waste is in line with my own beliefs. From day one up to the present, this organization has creatively attempted to thwart the food insecurity needs in Pittsburgh. From the food donor to the recipient, the 412 Food Rescue App provides volunteers with a step-by-step guide for the entire transfer of donated food. This app allows Pittsburghers to easily be part of a challenging solution. And, lastly, the team at 412 Food Rescue can’t be praised enough for their commitment to help the volunteers and to serve their community!

I have been volunteering with 412 food rescue for 2 years now. I cant tell you about all the families, shelters, individuals and children I have touch with the deliveries I have made. The most memorable one occurred in 2019 at a shelter in the city of Pittsburgh. I was met by a resident who asked if I was delivering food and I said “yes”. She had the biggest smile on her face and said that she gets to eat today. After I delivered the food, I sat in my car and smiled and cried at the same time. What a difference we make in our communities. Every rescue that I make gives me such gratitude knowing what I am helping ruled out do. I never expect a thank you or a smile, but deep down I know what we are doing to help.

I have been volunteering with 412 Food Rescue for multiple years now - even my three young children have come to know that this is something that we can do to help others. The app is amazing, super easy to navigate and it walks you through the entire food rescue process.

In addition to volunteering as a food rescue "hero" (who doesn't like to be called a hero?!?), I have also been able to make donations through this nonprofit as well. I was always told about where my money/food would go - it really is so well-run and helpful to the community.

412 FoodRescue is a fabulous way to help your community in a flexible and worthwhile way. You get to choose when you take a rescue and the app does all the logistics (what you pick up and where you take it). Plus all the food gets used by folk who appreciate it and the places donating get credit for helping. The rescues are completely safe (non contact and social distanced). Try it out!

412 Food Rescue is an amazing way to solve 3 of the great problems of our time: hunger, food waste, and climate change. Volunteering with 412 Food Rescue is so easy too, using the Food Rescue Hero app! I can volunteer as little or as often as I want with no real pressure put on me. Everyone I interact with on the staff is very supportive and passionate about what they do.

If people realized how easy it was to make a difference in our communities, I'm sure they would!

412 Food Rescue goes far beyond the rescue of wasted food. They bring donors and volunteers together to not only get the food to the communities that need it the most but to educate the public on the importance of their work to help stamp out hunger in Pittsburgh, surrounding areas and beyond.

412 Food Rescue is not only imperative to increase food security in Pittsburgh, but their small staff contributes largely to their success. As a volunteer, I not only feel appreciated, I feel appropriately needed. The ease to turn on and off when I am available is perfect for my schedule, but they know their volunteers enough to call on them at times when they really need a few extra hands. I'm so thankful 412 Food Rescue has engaged me year after year.
