It was our privilege and honor to present the 2018 Annual Villager Award to Jesse Johnson Jr., founder of “100 Black Men of Long Beach.” Mr. Johnson accepted the award on behalf of Dr. Lance Robert , President. This distinguished award is presented to individuals and organizations who are Exemplars of “Lifting as we Climb!” “100 Black Men of Long Beach” was applauded for the positive grassroots impacts it continues to make on many lives.
Mr. Johnson shared the story of the founding of the Long Beach organization, and its connection to, and influence of, the 100 Black Men of America organization. He described the success of their mentoring and other inspiring, empowering, and impactful programs for young men. These men are creating avenues of success for tomorrow’s leaders today. Mr. Eric Burroughs, member of 100 Black Men of Long Beach, consistently assures a presence of this organization’s efforts in all areas of the community. We urge on—going support of their mission. We wish them continuing success as their success strengthens the success of our too often underserved communities. The “100 Black Men of Long Beach moves our status from underserved... to served with opportunity and mentorship. “
