About a year ago, we met a woman in Ethiopia named Eyerusalem. She is a single mother of two year old twin boys, one of whom is physically handicapped. They are homeless, with just a tiny tin shack that barely protects them from the elements. Right outside the door to their shack is a place where people throw trash, so they constantly live with the reality of that rotting smell. The only source of income she has is begging, which she does every day. She is often unable to eat or feed her two boys properly.

It wasn't always like this for her. She had been a cook in a nice hotel and things were going well. She was dating a guy who also worked in that hotel. But then she got pregnant. He denied that they were his and abandoned her. The hotel also fired her because they didn't want a pregnant woman working there. That was when her life turned from one full of promise to one that is entirely hopeless.

My wife and I work with a non-profit in Ethiopia called Fields of Hope that opened a school for children just like Eyerusalem's. We were able to register both of her children this year! We are also working with the local government to secure a safer home for her and her boys.

I am truly humbled by this woman. She has lived in some of the worst conditions imaginable and yet she stayed strong. I am so glad that I have been able to give my time and money to Fields of Hope in order to bring hope to Eyerusalem and others like her. I cannot wait to see what awesome things happen in her life in the years to come!
