Nonprofit Overview
Causes: Animal Protection & Welfare, Animals
Mission: Furry Friends Refuge is a nonprofit no-kill humane shelter that has also built Iowa's only no-kill community. That means we accept all animals in need within our borders, whether it's unclaimed strays or owner surrenders, and ensure that well over 90 percent leave our shelter alive. We never euthanize animals that are healthy and treatable.
Results: Since our founding, Furry Friends Refuge has adopted out over 7,000 animals, and since 2013, when we partnered with Westpet Animal Control to provide adoption and housing services for all unclaimed strays in West Des Moines, Clive, and Urbandale, we have ensured that about 95 percent of animals leave our shelters alive.
