I had a good experience here for the most part. Most of the therapists were nice and I felt supported. There was this one therapist that was blunt and insinuated I was too old to get important therapy. I felt worse than when I went there. <br>When I went there I made some mistakes on the intake form and I acknowledged it . She started out by saying I should be honest without even getting to know me. <br>She paternalized me as though I'm less capable of knowing and taking care of myself . When I talked about my experiences she took it and personalized it. I never know this person to disrespect her . I also thought therapists should be aware of their own biases. <br>She made me feel everything I said was false or made up . I felt let down because people took a chance to be vulnerable in a private setting; it is not the same as slandering. She inferred I should have friends and inferred I have baggage then she remarked " friends don't like baggage either". <br>Immigrants are often intelligent too and its likely they know what they are talking about. <br>Life is not suppose to be linear as what you may think. It is your narrow perception on what things should be rather than listening to other people's perspective as a good therapist. <br>I also have to talk about my positive experience because I had a better connection with the other therapists ; my last therapist was able to ask me the right question to help me realize I had dyslexia. <br>They helped me resolve some of the reasons why I struggled growing up <br>Secondly people at the front desk are always closing their window on me after two years going there. Like I am less than when I feel like a regular person. <br>

I first found out about FCH when I was 19 and an unwed and pregnant. I had an unstable family life and believed I would be thrown out of the house when I told my parents. I shared my difficulties with a co-worker who put me in touch with FCH. I went there for the last 5 months of my pregnancy. I was treated with such kindness and given so much love that I didn’t even know I was missing. I was given adoption information but not pressured. My son just turned 40 years old and he is my whole world! FCH gave me the opportunity to make my own choice and not to think that abortion is the only choice for a young single woman. Forever grateful.

The Friendship Circle is a youth oriented volunteer program that matches children with special needs with teenage/young adults mentors. The alliance successfully addresses three objectives. <br> <br> 1. To meet the physical, social and emotional needs of each child in an enjoyable and meaningful manner. It strives to enhance life skills, widen the social horizon, and provide educational instruction amongst the special needs community. <br> <br> 2. It seeks to raise consciousness, inclusiveness, and a sense of responsibility amongst young adults by encouraging and promoting big brother/sister volunteerism. <br> <br> 3. It offers the family a weekly respite, community support, and a host of social & educational events. <br>

When I became a Passaic County CASA advocate, I really had no idea what I was getting into. Not until I was assigned my first case, got to know the children involved, and had a glimpse into their lives did the pieces fall into place. The volunteer experience at CASA is very different from any volunteer activity I have done before. The time commitment required to do the job is serious but the rewards are boundless. I am so grateful to the team at CASA for their guidance, support and patience as I have learned to navigate this role. The team at CASA is tireless in their commitment to children in the child welfare system. It is a professional, focused organization with a very large heart. More than anything, I am grateful to the children I have met who have taught me so much about real life.
