I had a good experience here for the most part. Most of the therapists were nice and I felt supported. There was this one therapist that was blunt and insinuated I was too old to get important therapy. I felt worse than when I went there.
When I went there I made some mistakes on the intake form and I acknowledged it . She started out by saying I should be honest without even getting to know me.
She paternalized me as though I'm less capable of knowing and taking care of myself . When I talked about my experiences she took it and personalized it. I never know this person to disrespect her . I also thought therapists should be aware of their own biases.
She made me feel everything I said was false or made up . I felt let down because people took a chance to be vulnerable in a private setting; it is not the same as slandering. She inferred I should have friends and inferred I have baggage then she remarked " friends don't like baggage either".
Immigrants are often intelligent too and its likely they know what they are talking about.
Life is not suppose to be linear as what you may think. It is your narrow perception on what things should be rather than listening to other people's perspective as a good therapist.
I also have to talk about my positive experience because I had a better connection with the other therapists ; my last therapist was able to ask me the right question to help me realize I had dyslexia.
They helped me resolve some of the reasons why I struggled growing up
Secondly people at the front desk are always closing their window on me after two years going there. Like I am less than when I feel like a regular person.
Really difficult to work with ... office staff was rude on multiple occasions while filling out initial paperwork, etc. Had SEVERAL virtual appointments cancelled within an hour of a scheduled video call but when I cancelled ONE appointment THE DAY BEFORE because of a funeral we had to attend - I was charged. Virtual calls were ALWAYS 5-10 minutes late but always seemed to end EXACTLY on time. Will never work with them again. They are the only game in town that takes my insurance and has availability ... now I know why.
We were getting married in about 6-8 months and decided we needed pre-marriage counseling. We signed up with Wayne Counseling and we were connected with Julio Barrios. We absolutely owe our wonderful marriage and our relationship to this man. He helped us set tools of how to join our individualities together as a married couple. He is so wonderful and i would recommend anyone that needs counseling or just someone to listen and help out in your relationship. If we need any other help in the near future, we will definitely want Julio Barrios. We are sad to finish our sessions with him in two weeks, but he has helped us grow and go forward in our future and helped us with our relationship and especially our marriage. Thank you again!
Sincerely,
Mr. & Mrs. Jonathan Mendoza!
