Feel like I have been well-supported in this first effort as an English tutor. The teaching materials provided at no cost to teachers or students are first rate. My student is very motivated and my time with him seems well spent for both of us. This is a good place to go if you wish to make a positive difference in our community.

Laubach is a great place to volunteer because, as a tutor, you can really see the difference being made in the lives of motivated people. It's very rewarding.

My husband and I wanted to "give back" in a volunteer capacity.
We researched teaching ESL and chose Laubach Literacy as it has an excellent reputation and is highly regarded for its literacy program.
The leaders/staff were themselves actively tutoring so they had hands-on knowledge and experience. They were friendly, engaging, encouraging and generous.
We were given the opportunity to observe and even participate in several dynamic Laubach Literacy conversation groups that were held in libraries and community centers before deciding if we wanted to commit to the program.
Laubach Literacy then equipped us with the training, materials and skills for leading our own group.
What a thrill for us when we were given our own ESL class of 6 to 10 adults!
After the first night of co-teaching with my husband, I was so excited that I still remember thinking, “this is what it’s all about – being available and making a difference in the lives of these motivated people”.
These hard working individuals were a lot of fun and were serious about learning English – often so they could communicate with their grandchildren.
We highly recommend Laubach Literacy as a way to make a difference!

Laubach Literacy of Ventura County is one of the most unique, least known all-volunteer non-profit organization in Ventura County. Literacy begins with a language, until you have a minimum level of language skills you cannot be literate at any level of that language.
Laubach Literacy volunteers tutor adult English learners who want to improve their American English language skills. Tutoring and study materials are provided at no- cost to the adult English learner. The tutor and learner decide when and where they will study together. This is the second most unique aspect of our program, enabling those who cannot attend classes to pursue their dreams in this country. Group workshops are also available that provide the opportunity to practice speaking and listening to American English with others who are learning. Each year 10,000 to 12,000 hours are spent tutoring... there is always a need for more tutors.... look us up at www.laubachventura.org
