My name is Ibsen Giovannie and Im part of this great org. Sunshine Place. I'm calling on all those with kind hearts to help us be part of this great blessing. Sunshine Place is dedicate to providing food, clothing and other vital services to the residents of Dane County, Wisconsin. Here I leave you my little story of how I was also part of that group of people who came to seek help with a broken soul.
The first time I volunteered in the food pantry as a host/floater, I was amazed at how well-run and organized it was for its size. Not only that, the people were so approachable and friendly, I felt like I found community just by being there. This is a nonprofit for which driving half an hour to volunteer is worth it.
As a volunteer, I'm very impressed with how smoothly the Sunshine Place food pantry runs and how many people benefit from this work. I'm also an active member of Sunshine Supper (a sister organization) and enjoy serving on the committee, with a great group of people. They have been serving hot meals to the community every Monday night for fifteen years! I've enjoyed working with hundreds of volunteers from church and civic groups, who help make these meals possible every week. Sunshine Supper is entirely run by volunteers, so all donations are used for serving food to the community. It's a wonderful group!
I started volunteering at Sunshine Place a few years back helping pack lunches for kids in the summer and also with the Spirit of Giving. As time went on, I shifted over to the front desk and now client shopping. Sunshine Place is an integral part of the community and truly work day in and day out to help.
For me, if I have the ability to help others, I am going to do it. It not only fills my cup but I have gained so many relationships with SO many wonderful people. I have developed genuine friendships and if I’m being honest, I don’t remember my days before Sunshine ☀️
If you’re reading this and looking for a way to give back, come in and check out everything that happens and see where you fit. They have something for everyone-guaranteed!
Sunshine supper at Sunshine place shows up for their local community every Monday night. They provide more than just a meal to their guests because they provide hope, a smile, and the consistency. Times are hard for many of our neighbors and this weekly meal makes a huge impact. No matter how much it grows, the supper pivots and makes sure they never miss a meal.
My husband and I have been volunteering with Sunshine Place; Sunshine Supper over the past few years. The number of individuals and families that benefit from the many programs under the umbrella of Sunshine Place is staggering, with just the one of these programs, Sunshine Supper, giving out between 400 - 500 meals to the community every Monday.
The organizations and their volunteers that come forward with their own funds to prepare and serve the food along side volunteers from the Sunshine Supper committee are amazing! The kindness and generosity with a smile and servant heart is inspiriting to us week after week.
The leadership that organizes; all the programs, the volunteers, goal planning, budgeting, running meetings, listening to the stories of those in the community that benefit from the programs, and so so many more things are incredible. This is a nonprofit that serves the community of Sun Prairie in small and large ways having a profound impact on so very many!
Thank you Sunshine Place!!
When I moved to Sun Prairie, I was fortunate to connect with Sunshine Place, and it’s been a life-changer. One of the first things I was able to do was get my grandson a bed, as he had been sleeping on the couch. It was such a relief to provide him with a proper place to sleep. Sunshine Place also helped us save money by offering support through their clothing closet, which is shown in the photo. My grandson is able to shop a couple of times a year for nice clothing, something we wouldn't be able to afford otherwise.
My granddaughter has been now volunteering here for about a year. I try to help when I can.
On top of that, the free Monday night suppers have been a lifesaver. Every last Monday of the month, when funds are running low, I know I can count on a hot meal. Social Security doesn’t always cover everything, especially with the high energy bills we’re facing right now. But thanks to the food pantry at Sunshine Place, I’ve been able to keep up with those bills while ensuring my family is well-fed. I’m beyond grateful for everything Sunshine Place has done for us!
Hello, I've been volunteering at Sunshine Place Food Pantry for a year now! Volunteers are friendly, and a great group to work with. I am also volunteering at CARDS. The leadership provides direction and immeasurable assistance to our community. Thank you for all you do.
I’ve been volunteering with Sunshine Place for over a year now and absolutely love it. The staff and volunteers are all so positive and happy to help our clients in a variety of ways, including legal help, an amazing food pantry and housing resources to name just a few. I have volunteered in various locations and can easily say this is the best experience by far! They acknowledge and show appreciation of volunteers constantly, with verbal gratitude, special dinners and events.
My husband and I have been volunteering at Sunshine Place for over two years, and we absolutely love it! It's such a rewarding experience, and what stands out most is how trauma-informed this place is. The staff and volunteers approach every situation with empathy, understanding, and respect for everyone’s experiences. This creates a safe and welcoming environment for everyone involved. We're grateful to be part of such a thoughtful, supportive community!

One of my favorite places to volunteer at. I am proud of my hometown for having a great organization to help support the community.
Sunshine Place is an amazing resource for our community. By combining the best of what our community offered through loose groups of volunteers (Stuff the Bus, Bed Lady, Sunshine Supper, etc.) and centralizing those resources under their umbrella - it's now a one-stop place for assistance for those who need it. It's also a great place for donors and volunteers to turn to when they want to help.
Sunshine Place's recent merger with the food pantry is another example of how strong this organization has become over the last few years. It's a gem of a resource with so many programs that help children and families.
Sunshine Place helps with food (food pantry, Sunshine Supper), clothing for children (CARDS Closet), school supplies/backpacks for kids (Stuff the Bus), bed and bedding for kids who are sleeping on the floor (Bed Lady Program), Christmas gifts for children and food for families during holiday (Spirit of Giving), legal assistance (Legal Clinic), housing assistance and help with utilities (Rays of Hope Emergency Assistance Program).

Sunshine Place is a wonderful concept. I believe that the board was harsh is letting Peter Curran go, and by not allowing him to volunteer with a group sponsored by Sunshine place. There seems to be some conflicts of interests but I believe the Sunshine Place has made the wrong moves with Peter.
