As a Family Promise volunteer, I have met wonderful, hardworking people, who through Family Promise, receive support, shelter, home cooked meals, and comfort for themselves and their children in a time of crisis. It is heartbreaking to consider what it must be like for a child to experience homelessness and hunger. It is heartbreaking to consider what it must be like for a mother or a father to suddenly not be able to shelter and feed their children or to even be with their children. Family Promise provides for their needs and helps find permanent solutions while keeping the family in tact. Other shelters separate boys over 13, fathers, brothers, sons from the females in the family. The family stays together with Family Promise.

Mission: To help homeless and low-income families achieve sustainable independence through a community-based response.
Results: In the last 30 years, Family Promise has established more than 200 Affiliates in 43 states that engage 200,000 volunteers nationwide. This direct service outreach program provides shelter, meals, and housing and job placement support to more than 90,000 individuals annually, more than half of whom are children under the age of 5.
Target demographics: Families with children experiencing homelessness at families at-risk of homelessness.
Direct beneficiaries per year: Nearly 100,000 individuals, including more than 14,000 shelter guests, 82% of whom secured housing within nine weeks of entering the program.
Geographic areas served: 43 states
Programs: Prevention initiative to help families before they actually reach crisis, shelter and services if they lose their homes, and stabilization programs once they have secured housing again.
