An amazing center based in the unique environment of the Hutchinson Island estuary. A mix of river and ocean waters make it the perfect environment as a nursery for young fish, one of the few in the country! I volunteered here for 9 years and my mother still does. My brother as well worked and volunteered here. It was an amazing experience for me to be involved in their MANY programs including student trips seining, snorkeling and recently they have been building artificial reefs. The center has been ever expanding and the staff there is amazing. GREAT place to visit and walk the trails and pet the rays. Even better to volunteer and make a difference!

Mission: To inspire environmental stewardship of Florida's coastal ecosystem through advocacy, education and research
Programs: The society was established to encourage and develop the study of marine and related services through scientific research and to advance the general knowledge of such subjects through the exchange of information. The society is able to do this through educational programs based on interpretations of exhibits and displays, research projects to study and monitor coastal ecosystems such as oyster reefs, sea grasses, near-shore natural reefs and artificial reefs in an effort to understand the coastal ecology, and advocating conservation of florida's coastal resources by organizing and participating in workshops, symposia, and conferences related to florida's coastal ecosystems.
