Mission: Our mission is to create positive lasting change in the lives of youth and young adults through strength-based services. Our vision is: Healthy youth and young adults being nurtured in family and community environments. We know that housing programs in Minneapolis serve dozens of homeless youth from our service area each year. One of our goals is to create services in the south metro that will keep youth in their communities, where they are most likely to receive the support of friends and family.p> Safe Haven Shelter For Youth, was founded in 1995, on the philosophy that our society means well in wanting to preserve the safety and future of our youth, but there is an immediate need to help those youth who have lost faith, hope, and have a great need for love.Safe Haven Shelter For Youth is a private, nonprofit organization. Three of our facilities are licensed by the Minnesota Department of Human Services to provide residential and transitional services.
Programs: Our group homes provide a type of care that is not available through traditional foster families or institutions. It is not meant to replace either of these types of care, but presents unique opportunity to combine different aspects of treatment from both resources. The facilities are community based, and the program is community oriented.
Safe Haven For Youth has two homes in Prior Lake, Minnesota, of Scott County, which serve youth ages 8-18 with emotional and behavioral issues stemming generally from abuse and neglect. Flexibility and individualized programming are used to create a strengths-based treatment plan for each child. Our goal is reunification with their families or foster care.
Safe Haven For Youth also operates two homes in Burnsville, Minnesota, set up for transitional housing for young adults ages 16-21. We offer housing and independent living skills training for eligible youth, whom otherwise would be homeless, a transitional period to secure employment, advance their education, and save money. Our goal is to have each resident leave with the skills and money necessary to avoid homelessness and be self-sufficient.
Our primary users are Dakota County, Carver County, Washington County, LeSeuer County, Scott County, Wright County, and Hennepin County. Safe Haven For Youth also serves the cities of Minneapolis, Stillwater, Hastings, Chaska, Chanhassen, Savage, St. Paul, Edina, Jordan, Farmington, and Apple Valley. Some of the youth have been runaways as well.
