Mission: The missouri coalition for the environment works to protect and restore the environment through education, public engagement, and legal action.
Programs: Clean air and clean energy - educating missourians to advance renewable energy and energy efficiency policy in missouri; participating in rulemaking for energy efficiency and renewable energy standards; nurturing development of the missouri solar energy installers association; engaging the public through the green homes festival and similar events to teach and learn about clean energy, home energy efficiency, and green living; defending the monitoring requirements of the new health-based national ambient air quality standard for the toxic metal lead; monitoring federal air quality policy.
clean water, wetlands and floodplain - educating and engaging missourians to protect critical wetlands and floodplain habitat at the confluence of the missouri and mississippi rivers from damaging casino development proposals; mobilizing the public and local landowners to assist in the protection of missouri watersheds through education and other outreach efforts; promoting improved nitrogen and phosphorus management on missouri farms to prevent water pollution; educating communities on improvements to stormwater policies to benefit urban watersheds; participating in the mississippi river collaborative to reduce fertilizer pollution in the mississippi river and restore health to the gulf of mexico; prosecuting unlawful failure to apply clean water protections to missouri waters; watershed planning to address non-point source pollution; and promoting farm bill reforms to ensure that environmental improvement programs are actually improving water quality.
lobbying - mobilizing membership to participate in conservation lobby day designed to identify legislative issues of priority to the environmental community in missouri and inform legislators on those issues; providing testimony in support of environmentally sound proposals and in opposition to environmentally harmful legislative proposals.
