Causes: Education, Scholarships, Scholarships & Student Financial Aid
Mission: To inspire careers in food retailing by providing the encouragement, the opportunities, and the scholarships to high school seniors and adults working in the food industry. To set the stage, grocery stores offer quick employment opportunities for both high school students and young adults who, most likely, are not set on a career direction. Frequently these people are working out of necessity and to support their families and not just for extra spending money. Even though food retailers (grocery stores) of north Texas and their suppliers are extremely competitive, they share a common goal. That common goal is the Food Sales Association’s purpose. It is to inspire careers in food retailing by providing the encouragement, the opportunities, and the scholarships to high school seniors and adults working in the food industry. The Food Sales Association is the catalyst that brings these companies together during their fundraising events. These events build bridges, build relationships and build trust between manufacturers, suppliers, brokers and retailers. FSA seeks to aid and to inspire employees to rise above their current situation and pursue fulfilling careers in food retailing for the betterment of the individual, the organization, the industry and the community.
Results: Founded in 1947, the Food Sales Association became a 501(c)(3) public charity in 2002. January 2014 marks the 17th year of the FSA Annual Scholarship Awards. Nearly $1 million dollars has been award to almost 500 deserving individuals. FSA, with its retailer partners, provides assistance to grocery store employees to pursue their undergraduate degrees while maintaining their career interests in food retailing.
