Mission: CASA "Court Appointed Special Advocates" is dedicated to the safety, well-being, and best interests of abused and/or neglected children within the foster care system. CASA volunteers play an important role to the foster child, often being the only constant in the child’s life, as they move from foster home to foster home and/or back with family members. Volunteers advocate for the child’s best interests, inform the court about any changes in the child’s situation, and look for cooperative solutions to support the child.
Results: On any given day, between 900 and 1,100 children in Washoe County are under the jurisdiction of the court because it is not safe for them to remain at home. Washoe CASA Program maintains ~ 90-100 volunteers supporting over 100 children in the foster care system. These volunteers advocate for the best interests of abused and neglected children in Washoe County.

Programs: The foundation recruits CASA volunteers, provides funding for volunteer training and retention, and creates greater public awareness. The Washoe County Foundation also donates educational supplies, clothing, items to support extracurricular activities and gifts to CASA children in foster care.
