Working with Gem allows me to feel like I'm putting my time towards something meaningful. It also is giving me the resources to further myself in my personal goals and my career. I am lucky to be apart of the team!
I have worked as a volunteer with G.E.M for around 2.5 years now and it has been very beneficial to my work ethic and schooling ethic. When I first started working with them, I was a Junior in high school, and I would say very behind in my work and school ethic. I got into an internship with them and started working with them on several projects to help the community while at the same time them helping get better with my schoolwork. I was in the internship for around a year and ended up earning a 2400$ scholarship towards my college with also getting a huge head start in schooling with the simple help they gave me.
GEM Environmental is a fantastic nonprofit from the inside out. The people, projects, and vision are top-notch. I'm a proud supporter of their mission.
GEM is an amazing non-profit. I appreciate their commitment to educating local students and their community service to our parks and trails.
Such a caring organization. I love that they truly give to our underserved communities. We need more non profits like GEM
GEM IS A BEAUTIFUL WAY TO GIVE BACK TO YOUR COMMUNITY. I HAVE VOLUNTEERED AND IT WAS A GREAT EXPERIENCE. PLEASE GIVE BACK TO OUR COMMUNITY TO KEEP IT CLEAN AND SAFE.
GEM is an amazing non-profit that works directly with the community and creates specialized programs that benefit people in unique ways. Using evidence-based methods, they are helping people learn about STEM industries, practical hands-on skills, and more. Lucky to have them in the Prescott community.
We met the whole gem team while out hiking around thumb butte. They were doing a community service day for veteran's day with forest service and the yavapai apache nation youth program. It was so wonderful to see them hauling all that trash away. Our forests have been overused over the past year and needed to be cleaned, we love seeing those who take their time to come out and give the extra effort necessary to keep nature looking like nature.
I heard about this organization from a friend who worked with their GEM Corps workforce development program. I thought it was a wonderful idea that GEM had to focus on our community youth through job training and professional development for students interested in science careers. I hope they go far and continue to make a positive impact on our community. Support GEM and and know you are making an investment in our community.
I met members of the GEM team this past weekend at a celebration event where they led a nature hike that focused on the invasive species at Watson Lake. Kassie was very knowledgeable and made the hike very enjoyable. Now that my wife and I know more about GEM and its mission, we plan to get invoiced and become volunteers.
Thank you to everyone at GEM for helping to make our community a better place!
GEM has helped teach me how to be more involved in my community. Working with the team is a great way to reach out and help.
As an intern, I am learning so much with GEM. I enjoy working and helping my community. -Patrick Willoughby
I love what GEM does so much that I’ve set up a real estate program to help give back to them the way give back to our community and the students.
Volunteering with GEM the past 4 years has been amazing! I have been able to give back to my community with a wonderful organization. The GEM staff not only goes above and beyond in all their service projects, they also make the projects fun for everyone.
As the Program Coordinator at the Community Nature Center (CNC), I have worked closely with G.E.M. Environmental and their amazing team for the past 3 months. They have partnered and collaborated with us in working with PUSD students, ages 5-12, and have provided STEM based curriculum every week for the kids. G.E.M. designed and facilitated all of these lessons in ways that were digestible, fun, and tangible for the diversity of students that we see at the CNC. It has been a pleasure to work with these folks and I would recommend this organization to anyone who is looking to integrate STEM based programs in the outdoors. Rock on G.E.M. Environmental!
As the Education Director of the City of Prescott's Community Nature Center, I will speak directly to the services GEM provides our site and program participants. We formally partnered with GEM Environmental earlier this year (2020), and since then they have become a vital partner in serving our public school students every week, both in our childcare program (K-6th) and the visiting teachers & their classes (5th-6th). They research, design, and implement curriculum on a wide array of STEM-based topics that allow students to experience first-hand what it would be like to pursue a STEM-based career in fields such as ecology, botany, zoology, geology, ornithology, engineering--and help learners foster skills such as developing & testing scientific questions, conducting experiments & field studies, and scientific illustration. Through a mix of full and part-time staff and a strong AmeriCorps member team, they are efficient, timely, and responsive to community feedback & needs. Their programs are developmentally & ecologically appropriate for our site and participants, and our public school partners speak often to the educational value of the programs they share. They are always demonstrating best public health practices during a pandemic as well as working daily to ensure our students with disabilities feel included the outdoor programs. In addition to our collaborative programming, they also volunteer outside of their work hours with site developments; an action always deeply appreciated in any small public land-based program. If you have any questions or concerns about working GEM and would like to speak with me personally, please do not hesitate to reach out.
As a part time volunteer and STEM student, GEM Environmental has proven time and again to exceed my expectations, inspire me to help, and challenge me in ways I will be eternally grateful for. They have provided abundant ways to assist our community and promote progress and positive growth. Each and every day I witness GEM reaching into our local schools and underrepresented populations, and supplying innumerable helping hands, programs, and ways to get involved in all our STEM fields. I am so grateful to be a part of this, and I can't wait to see what the future holds for our community and for GEM Environmental!
Working with G.E.M Environmental has been an inspiring experience. Eric and his team are always willing to lend a hand for projects, supporting the community in various ways, and being positive role models within the community. Our City is better for having G.E.M. Environmental as contributor!
I have been working to plan lessons for underserved Prescott elementary aged students in the G.E.M. for STEM program for the last two months. All the members of G.E.M. Environmental are so knowledgeable and genuinely care for the students they impact whether it is in person or online. GEM is a wonderful addition to the local community and I can see the positive impact every week in the students that are taught the STEM-based curriculum and have positive interactions with G.E.M. members!
GEM Environmental is creating safe and engaging spaces for students of all ages. It has been my honor to see this in person and engage in their interactive outdoor learning. If you are a school or community group looking to learn more about the STEM fields, then you have found your perfect nonprofit.
GEM Environmental is a fantastic organization serving a much-needed niche in the Prescott area. Their engaging STEM lessons make learning fun for both the students and volunteers. I enjoy working with this organization and would recommend it to anyone looking for a much-needed break from the typical daily routine!
G.E.M Environmental is an amazing organization full of people who are truly passionate about their work. I was lucky enough to help volunteer with G.E.M at the nature center, where students who were in distance learning/hybrid were attending. G.E.M leaders were organized in their lesson plans and were able to grab the attention of every student in attendance. They are doing incredible work and have such an impact on the Prescott community!
I helped with outdoor classes the GEM hosted while students weren't fully back at school and they were great. Everyone who worked at GEM was knowledgeable in their topics and the kids were fully engaged. GEM is great!
Volunteering with GEM has truly been a wonderful experience. Working with students has not only fostered my passion for equitable education, but it has provided an opportunity to build the capacity of underserved communities. I've seen students of all ages find new meaning in education, specifically STEM fields, and leave GEM's programs with a newfound enthusiasm for school. Additionally, working with the motivated and inspiring staff members of GEM has allowed me to explore my professional interests in a supportive and positive work environment. Thanks for all that you do GEM!
I have been working as a close partner with GEM Environmental for the past 5 months and have been continually inspired and impacted by the amazing work they do here in Arizona! Every member of this close-knit team shares the same motivated and optimistic ideals as the Executive Director, Eric Welsh and this is apparent in everything they do. I cannot wait to see the amazing impact that this organization has this year and every year that follows.
As the Executive Director my opinion is biased; however, from the experiences I've witnessed of the students we have interacted with through our programs, I believe I can say we are on track and adequately promoting our mission. We have worked very diligently to provide our services free of charge to our program participants even with the limited funding we received in 2018. I can't wait to see where 2019 takes us with increased revenue and fundraising on the horizon. GEM for STEM
