Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Military & Veterans Organizations, Veterans

Mission: Mike Delancey, a Pinellas Park resident who himself was critically injured in a sniper attack during military combat in Iraq and has confronted his own life changing injuries. The Wounded Warriors Abilities Ranch (WWAR) has been built to inspire veterans of all conflicts to get OUT and ACTIVE. We offer activities for all Military Veterans in need of a supportive and healing environment, to give a new sense of hope, resilience and strength as they move forward in their journey. Our Non Profit offers a huge range of activities, workshops, clinics and events for all veterans and the adaptive sports community in the Tampa Bay Area . In 2015 we partnered with the City of Pinellas Park to build WWAR at Lurie Park. Lurie Park is a purpose built ADA City Park and is home to WWAR . It is a place for Wounded Warriors, Veterans, their families and the whole community to come and enjoy. The Park has been designed to support both the physical and emotional needs of Warriors with fitness and sports at its core. We offer a wide variety of recreational activities at the Park and is furnished with specialist fitness equipment to build strength in both body and mind. There are wide trails for hand cycling, walking and running, A pond for fishing , specially designed ADA Work Out stations and a large multi purpose sports court specifically designed for Wheelchair Sports and Events. A social outdoor space is a key element to the Park, giving an opportunity and space to reconnect and share experiences while also gaining strength, empowerment and tools to help in recovery and healing so with our partners AFFF and The Rotary Club we builts 2 pavilions to host events including picnic tables, grills. A new stunning Military themed Childrens playground is the anchor for families and our 2 dog parks allow room for our fur family to have fun too !

Wounded Warriors Abilities Ranch is nothing short of amazing! The work they do in the Tampa Bay area is critical to so many veterans. Their purpose is to get veterans out, and be active. Mike Delancey and his son Mike Jr are passionate about helping veterans through adaptive sports and the impact they make is beyond measure.

This year, as a Bucs season ticket holder, I was able to nominate WWAR to be the beneficiary of any fundraising efforts from the Buccaholics, which is a non-profit fan group that helps bring awareness through giving back throughout the football season. This year Buccaholics has teamed up with WWAR to help bring awareness and gain exposure to those who may not know what they do, or where they're located. A lot of people assume WWAR is affiliated with Wounded Warriors Project and they are two separate charities. It's been an honor and a privilege to help WWAR gain support and make an impact in the Tampa Bay area and surrounding communities.

Got to see this organization firsthand and was very impressed. I loved to see this well-oiled machine running. They did not miss a beat, and every detail was covered. The wheelchair rugby players are very impressive to watch, and they all had great attitudes. I will definitely be out to watch whenever they have a rugby game.

Love seeing WWAR Rolling Warriors play Wheelchair Rugby. These athletes are amazing at best. WWAR is great for getting these guys out to play a sport that they love to play. The organization is run professionally, and they think of all the players when preparing them for any activity.

I have been involved in wheelchair sports for the past 30 years. During this time I have been involved with several programs in other states that provide services for the disabled. Wounded Warriors Abilities Ranch meets and in many ways exceeds the services offered in other locations. The family atmosphere and welcoming attitudes inspire all involved to succeed and push themselves to achieve higher goals and get more involved with the community. GREAT organization!

“ with over 30 years experience in adaptive sports, i’ve never been involved with, nor have I ever seen any other organization providing the resources and support it gives to its members. With the low overhead it has, WWAR put those resources into the numerous programs they have that literally changes peoples lives for the better “

I became involved with WWAR several years ago as my Daughter is a friend of the Delanceys. This organization has come a long way and continue to thrive with the help and support of kind hearted people. They strive to get veterans out and active and provide a place and functions for all to attend so they can be a part of the community and not feel held back by any disability. I am so proud to be a part of this organization and watch them grow and help everyone in the community get the word out that anything is possible!

I joined WWAR around 4 years ago as a way to give back to my community. Immediately Mike, Michael, and Sherry made me feel like part of their family. Because of their welcoming and positive attitudes and because of Michael's resistance, strength, and encouragement towards other veteran's and their needs, I will remain an active volunteer with my WWAR family as long as I can.

This charity is amazing! They have been able to help wounded warriors do so much, from something so small as to going on the beach in a motorized carrier, to playing wheelchair sports like Rugby. They are run by a dedicated personnel, who are so generous. They are really helping the people in their community, while raising awareness for the disabled. They are also showing disabled people, that they are able to do so many things, just differently.

I have been working with this organization since 2015 when it started .
The passion and dedication shown by the founders - CEO / COO Mike and Michael Delancey is inspiring . Their primary focus is to inspire veterans with injuries to find something they enjoy , socialize, get motivated and back into the community . Now expanding into the adaptive sports world it has enabled them to broaden their reach to the whole adaptive community in Tampa Bay.

WWAR is one of very few nonprofit organizations that supports, provides for and follows through for not just our disabled and injured veterans but also the disabled of our public communities. They have been a great support system for me, my family and friends with words and a creed to stand by, as only a Marine would have it.

My husband and I cannot praise wounded warrior enough! They have done so much for my husband and our family. At the drop of a hat they drove over an hour to deliver us a beach chair so my husband and I could show our daughter the ocean for the first time. It was a priceless memory. They constantly check in to make sure we are doing okay and have everything we need, especially when traveling for Wheelchair rugby. We have been involved with a few nonprofits but none of them show the care, love and true dedication to helping veterans like Wounded Warrior Abilities Ranch. I am forever grateful for everything they do for my family, my husband and all Veterans.

I had the great pleasure of meeting this organization and the group who runs it. I was immediately interested in helping in any way possible......well a few years later, and I still can’t get enough of WWAR!

Their mission is extremely vital to all of the veterans and those with disabilities in getting them out and being active. I’ve heard several stories from those on the rugby team and their spouses and the stories are both moving and inspirational!

My hats off to these guys! Great work you’re doing!

I have been involved with almost every monthly wheelchair basketball and hand cycle clinic. Every month I have a "feel good" story that comes from the event. Most of the time it is from seeing a new person getting out and getting involved in some way. Sometimes it is giving someone the thrill of riding a bike again. Sometimes it is watching someone getting their game on with the basketball. Many times there are things learned from each other on how to live a full life in a wheelchair. People are not born with knowledge of how to function independently in a chair, so getting involved with activities with their more experienced peers can give so much improvement to quality of life. The Ranch has such a variety of activities that most everyone should be able to get involved with something that they have interest in. The Delanceys have put so much effort into the park, just to give back to those that have sacrificed for all of us. The park is not limited to the veterans or disabled, it is open for all to enjoy together.

I joined the Wounded Warriors Abilities Ranch for their "Challenge". Being married to a veteran, I was more than proud to help this organization. I had a blast doing the challenges, seriously, a blast and knowing that I was helping to bring focus to this organization was the best. I have learned alot, prayed alot and after this event, I intend to continue helping our American Warriors . No greater love has a man than one that sacrifices for his/her country.
