I was in between jobs. I was in a really hard spot. They gave us cleaning supplies, cloths, and food. For that I am forever great ful!
They are willing to go above and beyond what the job title entails.. Every staff member is friendly, courteous and compassionate to each person they help.. A lot of families in Scott County would be lost without their support.

Appalachian Life & Quality Initiative (ALQI) and Children’s’ Health and Maintenance Programs (CHAMPS) has been an enormous blessing for our children and families within the impoverished communities of Oneida City and Scott County. ALQI and CHAMPS provides the Oneida City Schools’ Coordinated School Health with partnerships and resources that provide our students with health and educational services. They provide resources and consultation as an active partner with Oneida Schools Coordinated School Health and Family Resource. CHAMPS and AlQI help fill the impoverished gap with dental care, and basic needs that our children have so that they can learn at optimal levels within the classroom.
We are always excited to see ALQI’s continuation of growth with additional health components that are much needed within our community and schools. They are truly an invaluable resource to all of our children within the district!

I have direct experience with this charity, the work they do, and the people who make this program work. I am a dentist, and I volunteer each fall to help ALQI provide dental screenings to all of the kids in our county from headstart to 8th grade. I also volunteer each spring to go back into the schools with ALQI to provide dental education to the school children in our area. I have seen first hand how this program has helped the children in our county. Dental decay is a major problem in our county, starting when many children are very young. ALQI works tirelessly to screen all the children, follow up on the ones who have immediate and severe needs, schedule appointments, and bring the children to our local clinic to receive care, free of charge or at least at on a sliding scale so the care that is needed is provided. These screenings, treatments, and educational programs have made a huge difference in the health of our children. I have been doing this for many years, and although we still have a lot of unmet needs, the amount and the severity of the decay that I see at the screenings continues to improve over the years. I enjoy working with the awesome people who work for ALQI. They are cheerful, friendly, helpful and will do anything in their power to help anyone in our community who has a need. And, taking care of the dental needs of the children of this county is just ONE of the many wonderful things that ALQI does for our community.
ALQI has been my families rock, they have went above and beyond too help us. How shall I begin there is so much that they have done during our time of need. First they helped us with food, and they got us help with our home .. we had a bad leak in the living room so bad it looked like a water fall... then they helped us with other repairs that was in great need, clothes, furniture and more... then we had a house fire... we lost it all. we had three small kids in school fixing to start and we lost it all only the clothes on our backs. they stepped up and walked with us helping all the way through it all and I thank the lord for them. with out them we would not have been able to make it through all that... They have true compassion for the people in need. They have great caring people that work for them. the best I have seen. and they was there to help us get into new home. we couldn't thank ALQI enough.
She was a teenager from an underserved family unable to afford the dental care she desperately needed. She never smiled and when she talked, which was rarely, her hand was in front of her mouth. Enter the Scott County Dental Clinic for children who welcomed her and took her under their wing to fix noticably very badly decayed teeth. Not only did they make sure her dental work would be concluded in time for a nice big smile for the prom, but they stepped up to securing dress and shoes, a new hair-do, and makeup as well. The life of this teenager was drastically shaped by the care of the Scott County Dental Clinic and it's staff, a non-profit clinic located in Huntsville, TN.

You can tell how a community cares by the way they treat their children. From the beginning Appalachian Life Quality Initiative (ALQI) has concentrated on the needs of the children of Scott County TN and has gone the extra mile to help those who cannot help themselves. When surveys showed dental care was the number one need of the children, they established a Dental Clinic--and didn't stop there. They would go on to establish or assist in establishing 21 programs primarily for the children. It all started when a man wanted to help in doing something for the children and ALQI was formed to carry out his wishes. The community is a better place today because of these programs. The children have a better chance of living a fully productive life because this man cared and the community fully supported the work. Today there are children benefiting from a Boys & Girls Club, Schools Together Allowing No Drugs, Children's Center of the Cumberlands, Scott County Service Unit of the Salvation Army (also sending kids to camp), Operation Sharing Tennessee, Agape Christian Learning Center, and the list goes on. Scott County Tennessee--a wonderful place to live and work.
The people running this program have proven to be so very generous and kind They so strive to make sure that you get all that you want and can share. It’s a wonderful program to help churches and charities help others. Gratitude needs to be given to the companies that supply the goods as well rather than dumping it
