Nonprofit Overview
Mission: Our mission is to teach, develop, and offer youth players the opportunity to learn the fundamental skills of basketball while instilling life-lessons and values such as leadership, integrity, team work, discipline, respect and sportsmanship.
Target demographics: Bears Tail Basketball is a 501c3 nonprofit organization that is Native American owned and operated located in Bismarck, ND. Our focus is to offer more opportunities through basketball for the youth who come from low-income areas. Our goal is to educate and empower the youth with confidence, leadership, commitment and integrity, so they can live a productive and successful tomorrow.
Direct beneficiaries per year: Last year Bears Tail Basketball worked with over 1,000 youth student athletes throughout North Dakota. Bears Tail Basketball is planning to expand their organization and services throughout the United States.

Programs: Basketball Camps. The Bears Tail Basketball Camps focus on teaching proper mechanics to becoming a pure shooter, ball handling, footwork, teach and improve fundamentals while helping everyone expand their basketball IQ’s. There will be a lot of teaching going on, but we will also be incorporating some fun games in each camp. We are looking to make this an enjoyable learning experience for every camper. Bears Tail Basketball held their 2017 summer basketball camps all over the North Dakota area that included Bismarck, Fort. Yates, New Salem, Mandaree, New Town, and Twin Buttes. Bears Tail Basketball had the privilege to work with over 900 campers. We offer three kinds of basketball camps; Ball handling, shooting and “Specialty Camps” that are advanced camps spanning a variety of subjects like defense to offense, advanced shooting, court awareness just to name a few. Bears Tail Basketball Camps are for all children from the ages 3-18 years old. Campers are taught by a family of coaches and staff with over 30 years of experience in the game. Traveling Teams. Bears Tail Basketball currently has two traveling teams in the fall and will have two more teams added in the spring. The teams consist of three boy’s teams and one girls’ team. The age groups of the teams are 4th grade boys, 5th grade boys, 11th grade girls, and 11th grade boys. Our players are made up of athletes from all areas of North Dakota. Families and players are not expected to pay any fees to be part of our team. We only expect them to do well in school and follow expectations. We want to give them the opportunity to be able to travel and play basketball at a high level.
