High Alert goes above and beyond in their preparation and response to disasters. The focus on protection and recovery of aquatic animals and others impacted is much needed, and their response is always guided by the best science available.
I have been aware of the impactful work of the High Alert Institute in the field of disaster preparedness for many years. As an educator, I especially appreciate the multitude of vetted, informative, and thoughtfully curated resources that this group freely shares with others- whether they are focused on preparing their organizations or communities for handling disaster situations, furthering their own education and research, or incorporating the information into lessons about sustainability for students. I have done all three, and am grateful for the immense amount of knowledge, effort, and care that have gone into the planning and operation of the Institute.
People who want to change the world are common; people who apply daily effort to that cause are not. People who apply that effort guided by a consistent strategic vision are rare. People who can operationalize that vision are the rarest of gems. People who are compelled spiritually to do all those things well, through natural gifts and hard earned skill, are Dr. Maurice Ramirez and Allison Sakara. They founded the High Alert Institute and are the rarest of the rare gems.
I have never met anyone who created impact who wasn’t driven to do so from deeply inside.

My husband and I have the pleasure of living right next to High Alert Institute for over 6 years. Their passion and commitment to environmental, animal and energy issues is inspiring and educational. They are incredibly well informed and sensitive to the needs of animals domestic and wild. I know we can always count on them to assist us with our efforts to minimize our own carbon footprint. Their holistic approach is what is needed to keep our land and lives healthy.
This nonprofit has proved to be a leader in environmental protection and sustainable development.Allison and Maurice have been our neighbors for 7 years and in that time I have seen them design and install a windmill and solar panels on their property and have also encouraged the natural ecosystem. They have adopted shelter dogs 5 to give a loving permanent home. They have been a great source of information for numerous environmental issues.
I have relied on the services and support of the High Alert Institute since its inception. They have always displayed great resilience and adaptability in times of adversity. Their efforts to bring telemedicine to Haiti following the earthquake were heroic and life changing for many of the victims. I look forward to continuing to rely on them in the future.
I have had the pleasure to be working with and learning from Dr. Ramirez and Allison Sakara, on many issues for about two years now as a volunteer. From working on Covid related issues and different communities to PPE supplies to communities. As well as supporting and teaching students about disaster management. Their expertise is extraordinary in disaster education and management, as well as their major expertise in medicine and medicine specialties not just with people, but with animals and animal welfare as well The fact they also work to advance "Technology to increase sustainability and resilience for homes, small businesses, agriculture, and animal care and welfare, using off-the-shelf components" is another major plus for The High Alert Institute Inc. The organization does exceptional work and the people involved care deeply and all are outstanding.
"We are more resilient together!"
All the best

Allison and Maurice have always held a compassion for the corner case situations that everyone seems to either ignore or not realize are there. While everyone runs towards servicing the popular, they service and create solutions for the situations that would not get close to the lime-light. This feature intrigues me as the solutions are not that complicated. Through my work with them I have been able to gain a further appreciation and sensitivity for such cases that I may have ignored in the past.
The Institute has done incredible and worthwhile and necessary work in disaster preparedness and response for many years. The Institute's recent considerate inclusion of aquatic pet rescue during disasters will save many aquatic pet lives and ease the suffering of the human owners.
