WEST VIRGINIA RAPTOR REHABILITATION CENTER

I have volunteered with WVRRC since 2014, and I’ve seen the raptor center help so many birds. I’ve helped with transport and training of birds for educational use. Love the difference the organization has made and I’m proud to help carry on that legacy.

i have visited WVRRC and was amazed at the facility for the care of the injured raptors. The director, Collin Waybright, is a certified Master Falconer by both Federal and state of West Virginia. His love and care for the birds is remarkable. His vast knowledge of the habits of the various species of the birds of prey is astounding. I watched him treat and medicate an injured red-tail hawk recently. He gives first-class educational demonstrations and lectures to the general public and school children at the facility and also at outside venues
I am learning a lot from Collin and hope to be a volunteer to the center at some point.

We had Collin Waybright,do a bird of prey demo at our annual native american pow wow,He and the demonstration were very well orginized and well done,was a huge hit with the spectators and we hope to have him and the birds back next year

I helped the west virginia raptor rehabilitation center add some floor to their office space. They gave me a tour while I was there and was surprised to hear of the number of birds that they were helping to mend. Collin is very passionate about the animals in his care and enjoys sharing his passion and knowledge about the birds with those around him. I think this would be an excellent place to take a school field or youth group.

The WVRRC is an amazing Rehab center.
They have amazing education programs that are very informational and that holds your attention. You will learn so much about raptors, what they do and how they live and how the WVRRC helps to get injured birds back out into the wild.

A wonderful place with some awesome staff! Can't wait to see the growth that happens with this already great facility and the awesome people who pour their hearts into it.

My family and extended family all wholeheartedly suggest to visit and support the WV raptor center! We frequently visit the area, and always look forward to spending time in the beautiful valley and enjoying the flora and fauna, for which the center and people there are important educators and caretakers. We know some of the dedicated stewards there and are confident that they are continuing to build the center as a successful local place to go to for learning and care!

I absolutely love the work the WVRRC does! Everyone there has such a deep respect and love for the birds. They also love sharing their knowledge with the community!!!!

WVRRC has given me, not only some amazing new friends, but an unforgettable experience working with amazing and beautiful creatures. The rehabilitation process for many of the birds WVRRC encounters can take weeks, months or sometimes years but no matter the problem, if it is in their power to rehab a bird and give it a new opportunity at a fantastic life they see it through until the very end. I have been inspired to relate much of my mandatory school research to raptors, especially those cared for at WVRRC. I would love to see the public get more involved with the program, as the current directors offer amazing in depth, educational, and fun tours for all age groups.
I spent this previous summer at the WVRRC as a volunteer amd used the position as my required summer internship for college. I am in the wildlife and fisheries field and can truly say I have grasped a greater knowledge of our states Raptors through the WVRRC Program than I ever would have in a classroom.
I loved my time at the WVRRC and cannot wait until I am able to return to the program and help them better the lives of our injured raptors in West Virginia.

I have been volunteering for the wvrrc for the past several months and it has been a great experience. All of the volunteers and directors are very knowledgeable and passionate about taking proper and responsible care for their birds

This place is amazing, they do a great job finding these injured birds and nursing them back to health to release back into the wild for us all to enjoy. Definitely the best center in West Virginia.

I have been a volunteer for almost eight years now. I use every Monday evening to do the daily tasks at the center. Every time I go it's a magical experience. New challenges pop up and I am always learning. The work the center does for birds of prey is so important. Getting them back to the wild after an injury or an illness is our main goal. We also care a lot about educating the general public on their ecological importance and the current laws that protect them

I had found an injured Coopers Hawk on my farm in early August 2020. He had an obvious head and wing injury, possibly from hitting a fence. An exam and xray confirmed the wing injury was old and in the healing process, however the head injury was fresh.

I contacted Raptor Rehab and they forwarded my contact to Nicole Gerard. Ironically, we live about 5 minutes apart. I had the Coopers Hawk in her care within 2 hours of finding him.

After 3 weeks of care and rehab, Coop was ready for release. Nicole brought him out to the farm to release him in the exact place I found him. The release was successful.

It has now been 2 weeks since his release. I hear him almost daily, screaming while he's hunting in our woods. One day he glided right over my head and perched in a tree about 50 yards away. Almost like he was thanking me.

I have volunteered at WVRRC twice over the years. It is a wonderful organization dedicated to the rehabilitation of raptors and to the education of the public. Facilities are immaculate. Recently injured and Ill birds are cared for in the intensive care unit. Recovering birds are placed in outdoor flight cages in preparation for release when possible. Individual and group tours can be arranged. ❤️❤️❤️

I volunteered here for over 2 years while attending WVU and miss it every day. Wonderful volunteers keep this place running. I’ve seen too many raptors to count rescued and released here, that would have otherwise met their death if not for the WVRRC. Also a wonderful source for education programs. I urge anyone reading this to support them, by volunteering, donating money or supplies, scheduling an education program, or just spreading the word. I encourage college students in Agriculture or Wildlife programs to volunteer here too, I learned so much while I was here that was relevant to my education!

Honestly this was the coolest thing that I have ever taken my daughter to do!! It was such an educational and heartwarming place to visit. Nicole Was super knowledgeable about all of the birds and you could tell that she was very passionate about what she does. My daughter still to this day talks about our visit and all the different owls and birds that she saw!

WVRRC is an amazing organization. Birds in need of rehab are not considered “lucky”, but they are lucky to end up in the care of this center. The staff goes above and beyond to make sure every bird is given the best possible care. They also do a lot of education. Helping people understand the importance of raptors and how you can help them. I’d give them 10 stars if I could!

This is a wonderful organization. Birds of prey that have been illegally trapped, shot or injured are brought in from all across West Virginia and the veterinarians and other volunteers do everything they can to help save them! Once they are able to care for themselves they are released back into the wild.
