Mission: The mission of Developing K.I.D.S. is to strengthen urban communities through inter-generational leadership, academic enrichment, and civic engagement. We see a future where all Michigan youth have access to high quality after school programming. Results: Quick Facts: On November 22, 2024 Developing K.I.D.S. hosted its soft grand opening in celebration of the newly renovated 23,000 sq. ft. facility on the northwest side of Detroit, nicknamed, The Village, and the celebration of 18 years of service. In 2024, our biggest Village Campaign supporters: The Jamie and Denise Jacob Family Foundation, McGregor Foundation, the Skillman Foundation, the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, Footlocker/LISC and The State of Michigan. •In 2023, our Leader, President and CEO Kim Johnson was awarded McGregor's Eugene A Miller Fellowship. https://developingkids.org/2023/03/14/its-a-win-congrats-to-mrs-kim/ In 2022, we served close to 1100 youth from 42 zip codes through 10 schools, 2 community locations and virtually. •We began this work on the northwest side of Detroit in 2006 near Cody High School.

Direct beneficiaries per year: During the 2023-2024 academic school year, we served 854 youth with a 100% high school graduation rate.

Programs: 1. Youth Development: We offer youth-centered programs, including in-school, after-school programming and summer camp, focused on academic enrichment, college readiness, summer jobs, recreation, mental health, and building life skills. 2. Workforce Development: This comprehensive employment readiness program includes social and emotional wellness activities to prepare youth to gain and retain employment and become self-reliant adults. These activities operate during the day for alumni who need support, after school for school-aged youth, and in the summer over an 8-week training and paid work experience. 3. Family Engagement: The Family Management Program provides resources and referrals to families in our communities through parent advocacy and parenting workshops. This porgram also supports a wide variety of activities which have included monthly family nights, parent orientations, holiday dinners, ballroom/hustle nights, movie and game nights, talent shows and more. Our programs are offered at no cost to our participants and their families. 4. Community Support: We host special workshops and ongoing events on grief, loss, trauma and mental health support. We help families find the resources they need to be safe, advocate for their needs and thrive. In addition, we host weekly Food Distribution on Tuesdays from 10am - 1:00pm. No appointment, or registration required. Open to all.
