Mission: Help iowans restore, protect and enjoy our rivers.
Programs: Education and outreach: developed an irr river restoration program and strategy to expand river restoration awareness in iowa with funds provided by the mcknight foundation; coordinated and delivered the natural river restoration policy workshop in partnership with the city of clive, iowa; presented the second and third master river stewards courses; provided contracted services to iowa department of natural resources for production of booklets and fact sheets about dam safety, river basics, river restoration, and iowater (a surface water quality monitoring program); continued the river rascals program (introducing inner-city youth to paddling, river cleanup, river ecology and science); continued river town of the year program; delivered over 35 programs, presentations, or exhibits to increase public awareness about river issues.
advocacy: hosted annual legislative reception; advocated for iowa legislation appropriating $2 million for low-head dam mitigation and water trails program.
