Causes: Environment, Natural Resources Conservation & Protection
Mission: Preserve, protect, and enhance west virginia state parks by providing leadership in communication, funding, and advocacy in partnership with individual park foundations.
Programs: Construction and maintenance of park facilities: the primary focus of the foundation is the construction, maintenance and support of infrastructure and facilities in west virginia's state parks and forests. Significant projects funded in 2017 include: rebuild and equip the nature center in the blackwater falls sp; purchase a new swing set in the blackwater falls sp playground; refurbish and upgrade a guest lodge in bluestone sp; - purchase a memorial bench in the coopers rock state forest; improve the hang gliding launch site in canaan valley state park; purchase a new gas grill and swimming pool equipment in holly river sp; purchase energy saving and recycling equipment at pipestem sp; purchase lodge improvements at pipestem sp.
grants to local park foundations: the wv state park system has a program where park guests can make small donations to support the state's parks. The state gathers the donations and forwards them to the foundation. Some parks have local 501(c)(3) foundations that support them. If donations are received from a park with a foundation the money is transferred to that foundation as a grant. The amount shown is the total grants made during the year.
