Programs: Windham county safe place child advocacy center/southeastern unit for special investigations' primary exempt purpose is for charitable work with children who may have been physically or sexually abused, and adults who may have been sexually assaulted. The organization serves children and adults who were victims of reported sexual or physical abuse. In most cases the organization gave direct assistance to victims by:a) providing a neutral and inviting environment for forensic interviews with law enforcement and child protective investigators to take place;b) educating victims and non-offending family/support members about the investigative process and the emotional and psychological impact of the trauma and ensuing investigation; andc) providing referrals and support for follow-up with referrals for mental health, medical and other needed services for victims and their non-offending family members. In all cases the organization provided support to professionals charged with investigating and prosecuting reports of child sexual and physical abuse and adult sexual assault. The objective of service to victims of physical and sexual abuse is to minimize trauma to the victim, coordinate efforts of various professionals involved in the investigation and prosecution of such crimes thus resulting in more effective and efficient outcomes, and help victims and families access services that promote healing from trauma.
