Mission: The mission of the Athens Community Council on Aging is to promote a lifetime of wellness through engagement, advocacy, education and support.
Programs: Adult day service programs provide quality supportive services for adults with funcional impairments in a salfe and secure environment. Adult day care is desed for individuals who do not require 24 hour institutional care but are not capable of full-time independent living due to a physical or mental disability.
the home delivered meals program fosters independent living and prevents premature or unnecessary institutionalization of older adults and those with disabilities.
sennior community employment service program provides older adults who are low-income, aged 55 and older, and unable to find employment with part-time work training opportunities. On-the jo and bi-monthly training and assistance is provided.
athens-clarke county senior center provides noonday meals, wellness programming, education adn recreation in the enter, as well as outreach and visitation to homebound older adults. The senior center is a multi-purpose center dedicated to offering a variety of opportunities to older adults o the athens area to participate actively in unizue social, cultural, educational and health related services and programs. Transportation provides door to door excort to acca programs and other medical, social services, and shopping trips to clarke county. Georgiacares program offers free, unciased counseling on health insurance coverage and issues including medicare adn medicaid. Long-term care ombudsman program advocates for the rights of nursing home and personal care home residents, provides educational opportunities, and investigates adn resolves compliants in long-term care facilities.
