I have been greatly blessed to partner with United Charitable and the wonderful people there for many years now. It means a lot to me to have this type of support and encouragement as I work out my calling to serve the children of Peru. My simple way of expressing my calling is I am just a cowboy feeding kids but with UC behind me and working with me I can do just that, Go and make a difference in the lives of children as best I can.Gracias a todos! Bendiciones!
United Charitable makes it so easy for me to operate under their fiscal sponsorship and help those in need. During this period, when COVID has especially affected poor communities worldwide it allows us to insure the children in our projects received the nourishment they needed.

This is hundreds of charities rolled into one! United Charitable sets me free to attend to my humanitarian projects while they handle for a small fee administrative details that would be unaffordable to a small budget operation like mine was I to form my own non profit. They provide support in accounting, legal advice, fundraising training and all that one needs to function and grow.
I never heard about this charity until they charged $29 on my credit card. I filed a complaint with the credit card company and got a credit.
Be careful with this organization. They ought to be prosecuted.
United Charitable was instrumental in getting The Markie Foundation established as a non-profit organization in 1999 and has since been a great partner in helping us operate, specifically from an administrative and financial processing aspect. As a result, we are able to focus on our core activity of fundraising in support of children's hospice -- enabling us to make a difference in the lives of terminally ill children and their families. We are appreciative of United Charitable's partnership and support through the years.
United Charitable is not a charity it is 500 charities rolled into one! over 500 charities making a difference in the the USA and in every corner of the world. That is what United Charitable is all about. All are like my Global Legacy Programs, charities started by individuals wanting to make a significant positive change but without the resources or knowledge to hire a staff or run themselves the administrative part of a non profit. By taking us under its umbrella, UC has empowered all 500 of us to do what we wanted to do . For a small fee retained from the donations we receive, UC shoulders all accounting, legal, and tax issues. We can do what we want to do and have the peace of mind of knowing all the administrative end is being handled professionally and properly. Our donations are tax deductible and we learn many helpful fundraising and campaigning strategies through free courses they offer us. Thanks to their support we have been able to sponsor medical missions in the Philippines, Build greenhouses to fight malnutrition in the High Peruvian Andes, build vented stoves and dry latrines in Guatemala. We now are planning construction of a much needed school in Uganda and UC is doing all the research needed to insure every aspect of the financial and legal process is done well. Thank you UC team!

I could not have started my project without the support of United Charitable. Working under their umbrella, as a project of UC I was able to concentrate on the work I wanted to do: support projects with a high impact on education, health, and the advancement of women in poor rural communities. They replace the entire staff I could not afford to do administrative work I do not have the time or knowledge to do myself. The support of UC, legal, accounting, advisory, as well as courses offered are all essential to small charitable projects such as mine
In a world of bureaucratic hurdles and legal complexities, United Charitable has been the easiest and most efficient way for us to serve at-risk youth for the past several years. United Charitable has taken care of all the 501c3 business as well as the legal and accounting requirements for our non-profit educational program that we may be free to do the work we love so much .
Workwell Foundation is fiscally sponsored by United Charitable Programs (UCP). Our organization has been very successful under the guidance and direction of UCP. They have experience assisting small non-profits to function and thrive. They take an active role in our program by assisting with accounting, answering legal questions and providing additional support when needed. This allows us to focus on our mission which is to serve individuals with fatigue related illnesses through research and education. They are timely in responding to any matters that arise and offer many resources to assist with running a more efficient foundation.
This charity makes it possible for individuals who have limited resources and who dislike tangling with government bureaucracy to create small charities to help other people in their communities and in our nation and the world. UCP takes all the hassle out of trying to help others by fulfilling the government regulations and guiding individuals to follow nonprofit standards. I've been managing director of one of their programs for at least 8 years already, and have had a WONDERFUL experience with them. I'm pleased that I can make a meaningful contribution to the lives of others through our nonprofit holistic health website. Without UCP, I could not bear the burden of filling out so many forms, managing a board of directors, paying a large fee, etc..... instead, I can just be of service to others in the way I do it best! Helping people with their health! Thank you, United Charitable Programs!
In 2008 when I wanted nonprofit status, I did a lot of research and decided to use United Charitable Programs (UCP). After taking workshops and talking with lawyers, this was the most effective for me in terms of cost, speed to get the 501(c)(3) status as well as ongoing assistance and knowledge from a terrific staff. For me, it was the easiest route, and seven years later, I am still so happy I went this way. I highly recommend UCP, and often do. Janet Bauer, Program Manager, I'm A Great Child Worldwide

United Charitable Programs helped Living Out Unique Dreams to be able to start our organization and work to help our at-risk youth in our community. Through the use of their 501 and taking us under their wing we were able to raise money to keep our program operating for the last 4 years. LOUD would like to say thanks!
United Charitable Programs' staff is doing a remarkable job in helping individuals and organizations streamline their charitable contributions with ease and efficiency.
I am happy to be part of the organization.
"I Gerard F. Scott founder of the Zechariah Foundation has had an extremely positive experience with UCP over the last decade since 2005. With UCP as our fiscal sponsor they have an excellent Charitable model, that allows us to focus soley on supporting our foundations mission"
When we started our non-profit using a fiscal sponsor was the only sensible way for us to begin focused on trying to serve people instead of paperwork and compliance reporting with virtually no staff. United Charitable Programs was a God send. Along with giving us advice, improvement webinars, and support links to outside resources, the staff is always helpful and available. It's like having a staff of your own. I would recommend United Charitable Programs to any group starting out on a non-profit mission. Ramon Sanchez-Vinas, Hand-of-Hope

Judicial College as the first judicial curriculum in the United States to formally train
individuals aspiring to a judicial career, prior to their service. In 2009 an American Bar

In 2010 WESTLAW performed groundbreaking research that formed the core cases
the D.C. Judicial College is studying to ascertain "causes" of court error, and testing/training
simulations to address those errors, along with admissions criteria. In 2014 we partnered
with United Charitable Programs, as a fiscally sponsored Program. We gained the benefit of
being part of a reputable organization operational in all 50 states, plus foreign nations,
without losing our autonomy because it is part of UCP's mission to aid organizations
such as ours, without altering out mission or trajectory. Benevolent
guidance I would call it, as long as it takes for our organization to be fully operational.
Ultimately we launch as a fully autonomous organization, featuring a functioning
campus in each state, with year-long, full-time and effective training of future judicial
professionals (see www.dcjudicialcollege.org), accreditation standards, admissions
criteria specific and unique to the "judicial profession," and novel testing and developing
of core and advanced judicial skills . UCP has greatly helped us along the way.

I have had the privilege of working with United Charitable Programs for the past 7 years. I have been so impressed with both the professionalism of the team, and the integrity of the leadership of UCP. They have been able to help worthwhile charities serve more people in unique and strategic ways, that without UCP's help, would not have been reached.
UCP is one of the most outstanding non profit charities that I've ever had the opportunity to work with.
As the Director of R.A.T.E.S. I faced the challenge of gaining the funds that we needed to impact our community. I also faced being denied adequate funding due to our lack of financial experience, even with many years of verifiable service. After adding United Charitable Programs (UCP) to our grant proposals, we received significant government grant awards. Our organization also became a preferred grantee, largely due to the impeccable accounting and accountability provided by UCP. We passed the government audits without a single challenge. I also learned a lot about fiscal and fiduciary accountability issues from UCP's very capable and informed staff. Because UCP did what they do well, our organization was able to operate a successful recovery program. I am grateful that United Charitable Programs exist for organizations like ours who want to operate with integrity along with demonstrated productivity. Dr. MJ,
This is organization puts their heart and soul into the mission of the organization. The community benefits from its efforts daily. Children are growing with an incredible sense of self through the arts training provided by Orlando School of Cultural Dance Foundation. This community consists of at risk youth that would NEVER have the opportunity to be expose to the arts. The beautiful thing is that this organization includes life skills, youth financial literacy, music and much much more. We we blessed to have Mrs. Coleman as a partner and leader in the Orlando/Central Florida community

I founded our organization Global Children Care From Australia over 12 years ago in response to the Bali Bomb as I had a five star B&B in Bali at the time of the Bomb, needless to say our business and many others died overnight.
We foresaw it would take several years to revive the local tourist based Balinese economy so cutting our losses we converted the Bed and Breakfast into the first HQ for our formalized charity work.
Since my 20's I had been doing what I privately termed random acts of charity with a focus on children and youth, but given the circumstances of the Bomb and the fact that already many families were eking out a daily existence in spite of the glamorous tourist resort image portrayed regarding Bali.
I had seen a behind the scenes side to Bali and particularly the lives of rural village children and their families and their daily struggle to feed clothe and educate their children and to offer them a better future..
I determined to formalize my random acts of charity into a formal organization.
First we approached the local Community leaders in our area and asked them to speak with the poorest and most disadvantaged families and ask them what they most wanted and needed for their children. The community leaders came back with their list and I said "well I am not a wealthy woman but I will do my best to provide everything on your list step by step!"and we did.
We began in December 2002 with one small village school 35 children and one volunteer Teacher and frankly as I had lost my business I sat the B&B staff down and said "I don't know how I am going to do this financially now we have no business income but I will, so now don't worry you have not lost your jobs but we are now going to do charity work instead and I then set about training them and kept them fully employed much to their relief throughout what turned out to be a five year economic challenge for all the Balinese.
Three of my key employees who started working with me in the B&B in 2000 and then the charity are still with today and I highly value their loyalty and love them for their goodness of heart.
In 2007 another foundation we collaborated with on our eye care programs told me about a charitable foundation in Virginia that could provide us with US tax deductible status .
In 2002 the Australian Government and Taxation Office decided that any new charities that registered from the beginning of 2003 onwards that worked in other Countries outside of Australia would basically have a very difficult time to be granted Tax Deductible status! they have been true to their legislation! We did have two major Law firms who deal with non profits look into it for us over the years but no exceptions have been made.
So I was delighted having lived in the US previously for 20 years and knowing the overall generosity of the American people to know we could apply through United Charitable Programs (operating under a different name then) and if we met their requirements achieve Tax Deductible status,
We were very pleased to be treated so professionally and kindly by UCP and their Staff members throughout the process and thrilled to be granted Tax Deductible status !
By June 2008 we had increased the number of children who had benefited from our Education and Health Care programs by an increase of 2,142% !
I wasn't sure I had calculated the figure correctly for a donors report I was preparing so I had a friend check it with a very sophisticated calculator and yes it was true!
I had determined as we had increased the number of Programs we were operating and regularly benefiting 785 children a week in seven small village schools that in 2008 I would go to the US in the October to do some fundraising as we had definitely built credibility and sustainability.
Well we all had the Global Financial Crisis instead , all of us were challenged in one way or another weren't we !
In the process we lost our first major donor because his donations came to us through his US stock portfolio which was wiped out in the GFC even though he lived in Singapore and was not a US citizen he had long invested in the US unfortunately due to his losses he had to stop donating.
So we had to cut back on Programs, re group and make some tough decisions and go into damage control and I used up the rest of my savings through 2009 to keep everything going.
Unfortunately on a personal level while in Australia in 2009 I had a multiple injury accident on a public transport Bus and fought a Court case (against the local Government Transport Dept ( who frankly were not great defendants to deal with, is the politest way I can describe their tactics ) and I have had multiple surgeries over the last six years and now I can walk properly again and am free to travel and do my volunteer work again.
I am now returning to Bali and a new cycle of fund raising and work will begin starting this August 2015.
In my heart I am filled with joy to be able to continue on and expand once again and I would like to thank everyone at United Charitable Programs for their unstinting patience and support in dealing with me and us throughout the last very difficult six years .
I also would like to thank UCP for their newsletter, resources and webinars and updated advice on fundraising and their general all round focus and helpfulness in the world of charity fundraising work and doing their utmost best in helping us meet the challenges that all of us who are charitably minded face.
Kindest Regards from Susan Taylor

I found out about United Charitable Programs at a perfect time. I just completed my MBA, and during my final project I developed a business plan designed to help others. I wanted to take this project and make it successful quickly. I knew I served a need and had the idea in place. I was committed to developing a non-profit that served low income seniors with in home support. During my research on how to start a non-profit I became discouraged. There was no way I could afford the upfront costs or handle the long wait time. I just wanted to get started helping others and impliment my plan. That's where United Charitable Programs came in. They had the framework already in place that I needed to get started right away. After the board approved my project I could start building relationships, work with investors, and serves clients in my community. I could never have had this opportunity without the great team at United Charitable Programs. Now I can focus on my projects which is what I like to do.
Congratulation United Charitable Programs - Destiny: The Rock of Escape continues to mentor boys and young men to achievement in Atlanta, GA because you are there administratively and give awesome advise. We serve more with less because of your support. www.therockofescape.com
We have had UCP hosting our program since 2010.
The arrangement allows us to focus on helping people and not having to fuss with the backend money management and documentation.
UCP has good documents and clearly outlined protocol for every detail about how our program operations and the rules of engagement.
They are responsive to our needs in a timely manner.
It is without reservation that i highly recommend UCP as a fiscal host.

UCP was pivotal in enabling us to start our nonprofit work with educating children. We did not have the time or the resources to start our own nonprofit, so starting a program with UCP allowed us to focus our energies on the important charitable work right away. That was seven years ago, and during that time UCP has always proven reliable, efficient, and fair. The staff truly seem to care about the success of our program and support it with a spirit of service and dedication. UCP has been perfect for us.
UCP has been instrumental in assisting The National Breast Center Foundation to get set up legally to offer a 501(c)3 status to enable tax deductible contributions. They have been supportive to insure that we were properly managing all financial aspects. The friendly and knowledgeable staff have been most responsive with any questions raised. UCP has been a welcome relief as we start a new foundation offering new and creative services to women regarding breast cancer and options that exist, which may be new to them. The NBCF is focused on patient-centered treatment utilizing customized care for each patient. The Early Detection Alliance, Survivorship Program, and Physician Program will have a positive impact on the individuals we are blessed to reach. Thanks to UCP our initial start up has been hassle free and allowed us to concentrate on these programs and fund raising, instead of the technical details involving the IRS and other labor intensive paperwork. We look forward to this continued partnership with UCP as we grow our programs that will serve others.
Workwell Foundation has grown tremendously under the guidance of UCP. We are a research laboratory that uses cardiopulmonary exercise testing to evaluate function in patients with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and other fatigue related illnesses. In addition to research, we are able to advocate for our patients by writing objective disability evaluation reports for those applying for disability benefits.
UCP has allowed us to do this work we are passionate about. All of their staff are friendly and great! Katie is our program administrator and she always responds quickly to any questions we have. In fact she goes above and beyond to help problem solve and assist with any help that we need.

Thanks for your great feedback! We are always so thrilled to help important programs like yours succeed. Your program has been with us for 8 years, and we're looking forward to many more successful years with you and the Workwell Foundation!
I learned about UCP over a year ago as I looked for ways to serve others through non-profit boards. I was drawn to UCP because I like the idea of helping charities (including start-ups) be more effective and efficient through pooled expertise and resources. The executive director, staff, and other board members have been incredibly forthright with me about their past experiences and their continued passion for helping others. I especially appreciate UCP's interest in becoming more effective and sustainable. It is a pleasure to work with this group. They have a bright vision for the future and I look forward to helping them succeed.

Your counsel as a Board member at UCP has been invaluable to us. Thanks for assisting us with becoming an even better organization!
UnitedCP helped us when we needed in most - startup! our Special Ed school and orphanage for the disabled in Guatemala, Central America would not be here today if not for all the services they provide.
It was easy to get started and easy to keep up. Exactly what we needed to focus our real energies on our mission: surrounding these very Special children with the loving care they need everyday to reach their full potential.
Thank you United Charitable Programs we could not do it without you!
Meant 2 Live Foundation is honored to work with United Charitable Programs. With the help of UCP, we are able to successfully carry out our mission to serve impoverished children living in Zambia. The wonderful staff at UCP have been extremely supportive, helpful, and encouraging. We are truly grateful for this partnership and look forward to what the future has in store!

We at UCP are so pleased to be able to help you with the important work that you're doing at M2L! Your program is a great inspiration to the 300+ other charitable programs that we sponsor across the U.S. Keep up the great work!!
As the program manager of one of the UCP programs (Teen Volunteers USA), I am so thankful to have an organization such as UCP to provide the guidance and counsel I so desperately need in the nonprofit sector. Through our events and activities we motivate high school students to make positive decisions concerning their future. Like one teenager said as she was distributing food and blankets to an impoverished indigenous community in the mountains of Mexico, "Now I feel like I'm really helping somebody!" As I've watched teens make wise decisions in their lives, I too feel like I've been "helping somebody" -- thousands of teens and for a number of years -- all thanks to United Charitable Programs for making it possible.
UCP is the only national fiscal sponsor I know of that is affordable for nonprofits starting from the ground up. Further, they've been consistently and satisfactorily responsive to my queries. The benefits and services they offer their fiscally sponsored programs are growing (e.g., crowdfunding, % donation of shopping, new annual conference), as are their costs (e.g., they now charge $300+ annually for insurance), but they still remain affordable. Would I recommend them to a grassroots nonprofit starting out? Yes.
this is a good organization to join it has impacted the world with good deeds and i recommend everybody to join
My name is Rev Johnny Harris I'm the Program Coordinator for The Youth Advancement Program located in Chicago IL. in the Austin Community a community comprised of a mixed cultural population. It is also one of the communities that has a high crime rate , student drop out and gang issues as well. I have been with United Charitable programs since 2006 and my experience has been extremely positive. United Charitable Programs have given and extended their staff , technical support and administrative assistance without hesitation. In addition United Charitable Programs are much aware of the local and national issues that faces our families and youth and they have positioned themselves to provide the necessary tools and resources to make a difference by empowering people to become self supporting. I recommend this organization to everyone who want to better their lives in the American culture.
As a small budget project it would have been impossible for us to exist without the umbrella provided by United Charitable programs. The administrative costs would have absorbed too much of the funds we painstakingly raise. the staff at UCP is always ready to do whatever it takes to make our project a success. Tax, legal, and all questions are researched for us and promptly answered. It frees, me and the other volunteers to concentrate on our mission knowing that on an administrative point of view all is being handled correctly.
UCP has been the center and back bone of our non profit, Inner City Wrestling (ICW), in Miami, Florida. Without the assistance of UCP, thousands of young men in our South Florida community would not have been exposed to the US Olympic Team members, NCAA champions and NCAA Head coaches that we brought to them at the most affordable camp fees possible. ICW sponsors an annual 2-week Summer camp. Scholarships are awarded to at least 10 needy potential campers. The efforts of the staff at UCP make it possible for us to provide these services to the youth we serve.

Thank you for all YOU do for the community! One of the reasons why we love what we do here at UCP is that we get to work with wonderful people like you! Julie H. UCP
These people are stellar! They take the burdens out of running a non-profit so that I can do my very purposeful work, and they do it all with efficiency, style, and grace. I have been delighted with every one of them. They are timely. congenial, and expert in everything they do.
I recommend UCP to everyone I know, and I have three programs/projects registered with them myself.
I was lost on how to set up a non-profit to fulfill the need to have disaster response meals paid for and on hand for when a disaster inevitably comes. After talking with a lot of people in the non-profit sector, I came to United Charitable Programs. Their solution to my problem of how to do it right without violating any unknown rules or regulations was a life saver. The did not just except Hand-of-Hope; they fully scrutinized and questions me about goals and intent.
Once we were accepted, their support and encouragement have been nothing short of wonderful. The role they serve is vital to those seeking to meet a need and want to establish a non-profit. Thank goodness they exist and we found them.

Thank you for entrusting us to help your program succeed! Julie H. UCP
I have been with United Charitable Programs (UCP) for well over 15 years and haven't experienced one hiccup with them. Everyone on staff has been extremely helpful, insightful, professional, generous with their time...and very kind.
It is a great way for a "mom-n-pop" type organization to get launched and expand. I don't know about you...but I hate all the paperwork, financial reporting, and receipts required when dealing with the IRS and other entities. By doing all of the behind-the-scenes work, UCP has freed me up to do what I do best -- advancing the goals and objectives of my Foundation (Freeman Institute Foundation) -- www.TFIfoundation.org
Also, every donor has one major question: Who has their hand in the piggy bank? In other words, are the finances being spent for the purposes of the organization? It is great to have the fiscal accountability UCP provides that gives peace of mind for any donor.
In the entrepreneurship seminars I facilitate...I encourage everyone to consider utilizing the unique services provided by UCP. Why? Because every business needs to find a way to demonstrate their "corporate soul." UCP provides a remarkable way for every business owners to "do good while doing well."
I highly recommend this wonderful organization...

We are so thankful for all your incredible work these past 15 years, and for your encouragement to other social entrepreneurs. Your work is so vital to the community! We appreciate helping your program thrive! Julie H. UCP
I was introduced to UCP in April 2011. Working with the UCP team has been wonderful. Their program is seamless and very easy to follow. You are provided an Operations Manual to help you have access to information at your fingertips plus everything is on their website, which is very user friendly.
I have always felt very good about my decision to use UCP, as they follow all IRS guidelines and assist me to make sure I am also following them. You see, I don't want to be a tax attorney or a tax accountant - UCP is my 'go to' for any concerns/issues that arise. I can access the balance and activity 24/7 with their secure online site.
Presently, I am the Program Manager for 6 foundations. These foundations are for NFL players, celebrities and corporate folks. With each one of these, I sat down and went through UCP's services and support functions. All were very pleased with UCP's attention to detail, security of their funds, resources, support team and their very reasonable fees. Not to mention their amazing IT team to assist with setting up your website with links for direct donations.
If you are looking to spend your time and efforts on fundraising and promoting your foundation, then UCP is the team you want managing all the 501c(3) regulations. Otherwise, you will be spinning your wheels paying exorbitant legal fees and who knows what else.
I have referred several folks to UCP, only to have them come back and thank me. I hope this helps you in your search for getting your foundation up and running.
Good luck with your foundation.
We recently set up a program under UCP to honor the name of a US soldier that died in Iraq. UCP was able to quickly set up our grass roots effort. We are now making efforts to help wounded and PTSD soldiers re-acclimate back into their lives.
As a small business owner (since 1979), I have been so relieved and grateful to United Charitable Programs and their entire staff for creating a way for me to enjoy the "benefits without the burdens" of nonprofit work. If I had to do, or hire, all the work done that these people do, I would never have the time, energy, or the wherewithal to accomplish my charitable purposes.
In every single way, this organization and its people are well-oiled professionals, and I am so pleased I chose UCP.
Since the mid-1990's UCP or one of its previous entities have served to handle the administrative detail and oversight of our philanthropic activities. I am aware of the deep challenges they and many other organizations and businesses encountered in the economic downturn. However, they have steadfastly served in the private sector without an infusion of federal funds, in contrast to many who have received such funds, of late, and then squandered our national resources.
This is especially meaningful when our executive leadership forgoes receiving salary from our philanthropic activities, that span on-going current efforts in several states.
We have never found them difficult to work with and appreciate their professionalism for and commitment to the smaller or beginning entity.
I think they enable what Alexis de Tocqueville said, "A healthy democratic society may be measured by the quality of functions of its private citizens." UCP is focused, in part, on making it possible for a greater number of private citizens to pursue philanthropic efforts to the benefit of humanity and our culture.
Highly recommended.

I have been working with United Charitable Programs since its inception and am continuously impressed by their professionalism. Their staff possesses considerable knowledge and expertise in operating and managing a fiscally sponsored program.

Wonderful! We're so glad you're having a good experience! Always let us know how we can improve. Jan Ridgely UCP Executive Director, jan@unitedcp.org
This organization describes itself as existing since 2008. Yet their IRS ruling letter (from their own web site) is date marked in 2010.
Their director is listed in court documents linking her to the bankruptcy and failure of the Congressional Heritage Foundation. The primary defendant in that case appears to be her father.
Organizations using their fiscal sponsorship are barred from having their own bank account. I never heard of a sponsoring organization prohibiting a nonprofit's board from conducting such legal business.
Their board is quite small and is not listed on their web site. Neither are the staff. Odd.

JanR 05/04/2011
You bring up some good issues that I would be happy to address. United Charitable Programs was given its IRS tax-exempt status as of December 21, 2005. We received our IRS Determination letter dated October 23, 2008 which retroactively granted this status. In 2010, we changed the name of the organization and our address and requested an updated determination letter which the IRS sent to us dated October 5, 2010. In that letter, the IRS said that we were recognized as exempt in a letter dated JULY of 2008! There is a clerical error here because the IRS must be referring to the October 2008 letter. I appreciate your pointing out this discrepency and we will address this IRS error immediately and request a clarification. There are 2 other separate charitable corporations which exist, National Heritage Foundation and Congressional District Programs. Yes, NHF did file for chapter 11 protection in early 2009. Remember, the terrible recession of 2008 hurt so many solid companies and NHF was harmed as well under the tremendous economic strain. Fiscal Sponsor organizations such as UCP offer many different ways to manage their charitable programs. To allow a project to open up a separate bank account increases the risk of accountability for those programs. You may be confused with the structure of Fiscal Sponsored programs. They are not, in fact, separate non-profits, but rather, internal projects of the charity, under its full legal control. I would be happy to discuss this further with you, and refer you to a book on these types of programs called "Fiscal Sponsorship" by Gregory Colvin. At UCP we provide a more comprehensive type of program management as described in Colvin's book (Model A). UCP provides such an important service to hundreds of charitable projects that touches thousands of lives. We are still under construction -- building our Board of Directors, which is now comprised of 6 people. Our vision is to have outside people serve on our Board. Three of our members are non-officers or employees of UCP or any related company. I will update the list on the website immediately. We are working now on our 2010 Form 990. This will be the first year of our robust operations; we have filed only the EZ form for the last several years. Hope this information helps everyone and, again, I appreciate your scrutiny. It only helps us do a better job! Jan Ridgely, UCP Executive Director, jan@unitedcp.org.
Review from Guidestar
I was lucky to run into the predecessors of UCP, National Heritage Foundation (NHF) and Congressional District Programs (CDP) around 1994, and have had at least one project with them ever since. I saw NHF get bullied by Congress and then get sued by a disgruntled director of one of their thousands of charitable projects. I understand that they had to argue in a local court in South Texas and lost the suit in front of a "home-town" court. This loss was personally devastating to the Houk family who have poured their hearts and souls into making this system work for the benefit of all of us. Any lesser folks would have quit. but they are dedicated to providing what the government never can, an easy and low-cost way to start and incubate a genuine charitable project. They reduce up-front costs and paperwork to a minimum and make it easy for anyone to start a charitable project.
So even though they have had a rough time of it, they have now put the past in the rear-view mirror, tightened up their procedures and are launching United Charitable Programs, which is particularly well-managed because of the trouble the Houks have had in the past. "Once burned, twice cautious" is the principle here. If you have a good charitable idea, for a small fee they will help you to get started, give you the coverage of the UCP IRS status during launch, and help you to grow your charitable project until it is too big for their incubator and can operate on its own. For this they charge less than 9 percent of the gross donations received. In return you get the legal, administrative, and accounting services of a major foundation. You can list UCP as your parent foundation when applying for grants, which helps greatly in terms of credibility.
Sure they have had some hard times, but everything has been clarified for me to my satisfaction, and I see the Houk family and United Charitable Programs as extremely able and trustworthy. I have never lost a dime with them, and feel very confident keeping my charitable projects, www.jugglingforsuccess.org and www.climatechangeiselementary.org with them.

Review from Guidestar
I have benefited greatly from the UCP and programs. I get a monthly grant from a UCP program to help with my living expenses as I am unable to work and extremely ill. I am so thankful for the work that the UCP does. Because of them, I am able to buy groceries and pay my rent. Without the UCP and programs, I do not know where I would be.
I am program manager for a UCP program and I have found UCP to be the best way for me to conduct charitable activities without having to pay an arm and a leg for a CPA and attorney to help me run a 501(c)(3). They take care of the IRS filings, admin stuff, etc. so that I can focus on the actual activities my program does to help my community and neighbors. The staff is helpful and friendly - just a phone call or email away.
Very helpful organization! I was looking for a way to begin a charity in my community to help people without insurance to pay for needed chemotherapy, to help buy them groceries, and to provide transportation to appointments. This is a very small community, and the paperwork to begin my own charity was too overwhelming. United Charitable Programs allowed me to start my program within about 2 weeks! I was able to accept donations and begin helping these people in my community immediately! Their extensive knowledge about nonprofits was vital to me. I could not have this program without their help.
I began a charitable program under United Charitable Programs about a year ago. I wanted to begin a project in my community to spay/neuter the feral cats in my area, and return them to the wild. This is a very small program, which helps to improve the health and quality of life for feral cats and prevent more from being born into this dangerous and difficult existence. Since my project was so small, I didn't want to apply for my own independent charity. Too much paperwork, and too many IRS regulations to learn and adhere to.
I applied to UCP as a program, and within about 2 weeks my program was approved. I am able to get donations from members in my community to support this program. UCP takes care of the funds, and gives donors the tax deduction. I just give them my receipts and they take care of the rest.
We are a project under United Charitable Programs ( our project is called Stoll Foundation for Holistic Health) and have worked with them for about 4 years. All contacts, information, and guidance we have received from them during this time have been very professional. In my opinion, they are clearly working for the public good by supporting creative programs and projects in an effective, grassroots way.
I believe the name was changed because the former name "Congressional District Programs" did not accurately reflect the type of charitable work being done by their sponsored programs. Our holistic health organization is an example. Our congressional district has no relationship with our work. Stoll Foundation for Holistic Health serves people world-wide through our internet outreach.
I have nothing but good things to say for my experience with this organization. They are supporting many small non-profits to meet the needs of their locales and help people who could not be helped by the services of larger non-profits because their needs are very specific.
You will want to be careful with United Charitable Programs. http://www.unitedcharitableprograms.org The children of the Houks have spun off United Charitable Programs from Congressional District Programs which was also spun off from National Heritage Foundations who filed bankruptcy on all its donor advised funds.
By spinning Congressional District Programs and now United Charitable programs off they are trying to distance themselves from the bad publicity they have gotten through the bankruptcy.
Buyer Beware.
