Step Sisters is an awesome nonprofit who provided assistance to me during one of the most scariest and stressful times of my life. My unexpected diagnosis of beast cancer alone was terrifying & quite honestly you don’t have time to think about bills and other things going on. I’m very grateful for Step Sisters having such an easy process to get assistance. They didn’t hound me for paperwork or anything. I worked with my nurse Navigator and they were able to help within a few days! Awesome Nonprofit! God bless you all and thanks for all you do

I have been involved with the Step Sisters for over 10 years as a volunteer. They help local women with practical services that help them through treatment, whether it is a grocery or cleaning services or rides to appointments. They make a real difference in our community.

2005 I was diagnosed with breast cancer. My daughter Ashley lived in Brambleton, I lived in Columbia, MD. Ashley's love, concern and compassion gave birth to the Step Sisters. This incredible group of Mothers, neighbors, friends, many whom in the years to follow became cancer victims, gave their time and care to help others. They provide transportation, family and child care, meals, house cleaning and so much more including the comfort in knowing you are not alone in fighting the desease. I am so proud of my daughter and these wonderful women. In 2021 I am a healthy survivor of 15 years and so happy to have seen my Grandsons grow up and my beautiful family thrive. My pride expands as I see how the Step Sisters continue to support women going through breast cancer.

I was so thankful for the Step Sisters during my chemo treatments. They provided services that made my life easier as I was recovering from chemo and a mastectomy. I am also fortunate to be part of their executive board now that I have recovered. It’s a great organization that cares so much for their local community and the families they serve.

I love this organization. On top of a cancer diagnosis comes all these financial concerns for deductibles and medicine co-payments. The medical world has diagnosed financial issues that cause stress"financial toxicity." No one should have to deal with the stress of financial struggles on top of a cancer diagnosis. Step Sisters help patients by relieving their financial stressors. They are not as strict with requirements to get financial assistance for patients, and they allow nurse navigators to screen and decide who is appropriate for assistance or who needs a lift me up with a gift card, house cleaning, or food delivery. They do not discriminate based on citizenship status or past year's income for financial aid. They also get us in contact with other organizations such as Thrive Causemetics to give patients extra things like makeup to brighten their day. They are the best organizations I have been privileged to work with to get patient's financial concerns met.

I was diagnosed with breast cancer and I was unaware that there were local organizations giving so much support for breast cancer patients. After my surgery a huge basket was provided to me with everything I would need while I went through my year of treatment. Their support is outstanding and one of a kind. Clarice Daigle

Eight years ago I was diagnosed with stage IIIC breast cancer. When I was diagnosed, I had an 8, 7 and 1 year old. Luckily for me, I lived in a remarkable neighborhood filled with women who brought meals, cared for my kids when I couldn't and made sure that I had someone nearby when I needed it. They were my support. They were like Sisters...without the fighting over clothes!!
Eight years later, those same women have evolved into a true force to be reckoned with. Raising money, to be sure that families going through breast cancer, know that they are not alone. With the money raised, they supply meals, transportation, childcare and so much more to the families in our community. A special group of people with a special mission, the Step Sisters!!

This was a grass-roots organization that has always had one purpose and that has been to serve the community.

I joined the Step Sisters organization over four years ago when I joined my friend (and co-Step Sister) who had been battling breast cancer to walk with the Step Sisters' team in the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer. Since then, the organization has grown and evolved with a shift to a more local focus to help breast cancer patients in our area by providing them with the help and services they need on a daily basis whether it is a ride to their treatment or an order of groceries delivered to their home. This organization is made up of strong, giving individuals who want to make a difference in patients' lives. It is a privilege to be a part of the Step Sisters and I look forward to its continued growth and success.

The Step Sisters is an incredible organization. From a small group of neighbors raising money for other organizations, to now a group of men and women with a mission to provide needed services to those suffering from breast cancer, it has been an amazing shift of heart and soul.

The Step Sisters organization is about caring and compassion. This group goes above and beyond for it's members, community, and local breast cancer patients. I'm thankful to know that such groups exist and am constantly reminded of the importance of giving. I appreciate the opportunity to volunteer and wish that I could do more for the Step Sisters.

It is my sincere honor to be apart of this organization. To be able to provide any kind of help to those brave men and women going through Breast Cancer treatment is amazing. I have seen first hand what chemo and radiation can do to a person and family. A charity that provides everyday support and services such as food delivery and transportation is a blessing to these families. I hope that the Step Sisters continue to grow and provide more and more to those people who need it most.

it has been an honor to work with the Step Sisters organization. As an oncology nurse navigator at Inova Loudoun Hospital I get to witness on a daily basis the great impact they are making in our community. The support they provide those families afflicted by breast cancer is so meaningful. Each time a service is offered to a family it is incredibly heartwarming to see how much the simple gesture of their service so touches and lifts the spirits of those going through their cancer journey. Thank you for all you do! Christine Stone RN,MSN,OCN

During my own battle with breast cancer, I had the support of family and friends and never had to face the disease alone. After completing treatment, I wanted to pay forward the support I received, and getting involved with the Step Sisters was how I have been able to do that. As Board President, I have helped put the mission of the Step Sisters into action and have seen and heard first hand the impact our support has had on local breast cancer patients. Our fundraising dollars go to someone very specific (a breast cancer patient), for something very specific (transportation to/from treatment, house cleaning, food delivery & child care), at a local level. My hope is that no one in our community feels they are facing this disease alone, and I am very proud to be a part of this wonderful Step Sisters organization!

To start the review with honesty - I handle public relations for The Step Sisters. To end it with honesty, I must say that each member of this organization is sincerely dedicated to it. Breast cancer has affected each and every member of The Step Sisters in some way. Instead of focusing inwards, they have as a group, turned their attention to other patients facing the disease. They know what is involved in fighting breast cancer and therefore they know the best ways to provide support.

As a co-founder and Board Vice President of the Step Sisters, it has been my honor and privilege to support local breast cancer patients during their treatment. Our organization provides quality-of-life services to those in need. It's hard for most to ask for help, but our "sisterhood" is always ready. Family members and friends have been touched by this disease and my Involvement in our organization's mission is a meaningful way to pay it forward.
