Causes: Environment, Environmental Education, Natural Resources Conservation & Protection
Mission: Founded in 1999, Rivers & Birds provides outdoor environmental education and promotes conservation advocacy of our public lands to inspire Earth stewardship. Rivers & Birds’ vision is to inspire citizens as leaders for Earth stewardship through empowerment of local, long-rooted cultural leaders as activists for water and land conservation and through joyful hands-on outdoor environmental education at multiple grade levels for economically under-privileged public school students. We witness that environmental education work does not receive sufficient recognition in funding for the effective environmental impact it produces. In the end, environmental education generates the next generation of new environmental leaders and decision-makers. After 18 years, we now experience the rewards of having former fifth-grade students return to work for Rivers & Birds after they graduate from college. Many of our students, now adults, vividly recall their Rivers & Birds’ environmental education experience and say it influenced their career path. Our work is proven.
