Programs: SNAP’s mission is: to prevent the suffering and death of companion animals and to enrich the human-animal bond by providing excellent, accessible and affordable spay/neuter and veterinary care. Since our founding in1994, SNAP has focused on high-efficiency spay/neuter, with the goal of realizing our vision of a world with no homeless pets. Over these twenty-seven years, public support from animal advocates like you has enabled us to provide almost three-quarters of a million spay/neuter surgeries—preventing the births of millions of unwanted puppies and kittens, and we are strategizing ways to increase that number to a million surgeries and beyond. In addition to SNAP’s dedication to reducing animal suffering and death resulting from pet overpopulation, we are also committed to improving the welfare of the animals with whom we share our lives and to nurture the incredible bond we have with them. As animals domesticated by humans, our dogs and cats depend upon human care in order to live healthy and happy lives, and SNAP strives to make that care affordable for the people and pets in our community. SNAP was founded in response to dog and cat overpopulation and unacceptably-high shelter euthanasia rates in Houston/Harris County, pioneering the nation’s first spay/neuter clinic on wheels to serve clients who live below poverty level. Throughout our existence, SNAP has had clinics and/or operations in Houston, Dallas, Pasadena, and San Antonio, Texas; Native American reservations in the Four Corners area of New Mexico, Arizona, Utah, and Colorado; and Los Angeles, California. SNAP’s international reach has included projects in Mexico, American Samoa, the Cayman Islands, the Galapagos Islands, Ecuador, India, and Panama. SNAP continues to be a leader in the field of high-efficiency spay/neuter. Recognizing SNAP’s longevity and expertise, numerous programs and veterinarians training in high-efficiency spay/neuter have sought assistance from and/or modeled their programs on SNAP. Animal overpopulation and suffering are being alleviated across the globe as a result of SNAP’s influence. We are currently operating in two major Texas metropolitan areas: Greater Houston and San Antonio, with our three Spay-Neuter & Animal Wellness Clinics located in Houston, Pasadena, and San Antonio. These areas are comprised of sixteen counties, which—in total—are home to almost nine million residents, including approximately 1.2 million households with dog companions and 790,000 households with cats. A majority of our clients live at or below poverty level, and we serve a large segment of the Hispanic communities in both Houston and San Antonio. Our needs-based subsidized services are available to residents of all of these counties; your partnership will help us to continue to provide these services. SNAP is well-regarded by both the general public and other animal welfare organizations. Several times, we have been named “Best Spay/Neuter Clinic” by the Houston Press and other publications. Based on client reviews, we were named a “Top Nonprofit” by Great Nonprofits, and we consistently receive positive responses from our clients and donors. We are continually striving to increase efficiency so that we can keep prices as low as possible. Our work with area shelters helps clear their backlog of spay/neuter surgeries, which shortens the length of time animals stay in the shelter before moving to their adoptive homes.
