Mission: OUR MISSION
Project PLASE (People Lacking Ample Shelter and Employment) addresses homelessness in Baltimore by providing temporary housing, permanent housing and supportive services to homeless adults and families. We serve the most vulnerable and underserved, including persons with mental illness, HIV/AIDS, addiction, developmental disabilities, and ex-offenders, etc. We treat, restore and rehabilitate the whole person. We empower each individual to function at the highest level possible.
OUR PHILOSOPHY
Our philosophy is to stand with and serve marginalized and underprivileged individuals and families who lack access to resources in the larger community. We help persons in need through advocating for and accessing resources to meet our client's needs.
OUR VISION
To eliminate homelessness.
Direct beneficiaries per year: 1600 individuals, 1300 from the emergency shelter
Geographic areas served: Baltimore City and County
Programs: Project Plase permanent housing apartments and emergency housing - we provide permanent housing and emergency housing in two locations in Baltimore city. At these shelters, we assist the clients to obtain rehabilitation, employment, medical treatment, and other services to overcome the reasons for their homelessness, and to prevent its reoccurrence.
CARE Rapid Rehousing - with government funding, we assist clients to find suitable and safe apartments, removing them from the streets and hotels and into homes of their own.
Outreach services - we provide counseling and other services to many of our clients who reside in permanent housing. Many of these clients have physical, mental, or other disabilities. This counseling helps assure these clients can continue to reside in permanent housing and receive the medical and other care that they need.
Project PLASE assists the most vulnerable and weak of the homeless population of Baltimore transition to a more stable, productive life. In the process the clients not only make positive life strides, due to the multifaceted support they receive, but also make lifelong friends. As a board member I feel a great deal of pride helping to make decisions that strengthen this outstanding non-profit. With more than three decades of service to the community, this organization has had the benefit of a singularly committed leader, who understands both the problems and many of the solutions. Her commitment has been an inspiration to me as I've worked with her and the rest of the board...who are also very dedicated. During the past two years we've seen our funding shrink, as have most non-profits. One of our greatest challenges now is to be creative in how and where we look for additional funding going forward.
