The Double H Ranch is a magical camp for children with life threatening illnesses set in the beautiful Adirondack Mountains in upstate New York. Happiness, laughs, and incredible empowerment are a big pa rt of the Serious Fun that happens here. Co-founded by Paul Newman, Double H is the second camp under his umbrella of Hole in the Wall Camps, now known as SeriousFun camps for seriously amazing kids! At Double H, anything is possible. When I was given my first tour there by CEO Max Yurenda, we stopped at the high ropes course - a definite challenge for those without challeneges! Knowing that all campers do everything at Double H, I looked up at the platforms, cargo nets and zip lines, astounded. I asked Max how this is possible with so many of their campers in wheelchairs and the like. He simply looked at me and said "Sandy, we can't make them walk, but we can make them fly." And that is what happens there - fly they do, for one glorious week in the summer or doing Adaptive Skiing in the winter months - all free of charge. On a business note, this organization is extrememly well run. The staff loves what they do and that is clear from the moment you meet them. The volunteers are second to none, and love and smiles are in great abundance. I do not think there is a happier place on earth for our special children - and they give us more than we can ever possibly give them. The goal, as was promised to a camper who asked, is that we are able to be there for them forever. Double H celebrates its 20th year this summer...
