I have been a Board member with Ayuda for the past 5 years. During that time I've been constantly impressed by the dedication and passion of the staff in helping Miami's low income families - especially the children. Day care, summer camp, programs in art, music & journalism, and teenage empowerment counseling, are just a few of the very successful services offered by Ayuda. With budget cuts threatening many of the programs, I've seen the generosity of volunteers and staff with both time and money to make sure all our programs can continue. When I hear the beauty of our children's violin orchestra, read the creative stories written by children for their own newspaper, or hear about a troubled teenager who has turned her life around because of our counselors, I'm grateful for being a small part of these extraordinary efforts. When you can prove a 98% success rate in working with juvenile delinquents - insuring these young people will not continue down a dangerous path - you know you're doing something very right!!! I want to express a very special thanks and heartfelt admiration for the President and CEO of Ayuda, Luis de Jesus. With his leadership and consistent passion for Ayuda's work, I have seen this organization move to a higher level of awareness and effectiveness. Our community is very fortunate to have such a committed man running such an outstanding organization!!!
