Wilmington Nonprofits and Charities

Shopping at the Thrift Shop is on my weekly schedule. There are so many beautiful items in this "Boutique"! And I am helping those in need in our community.

They are an amazing charity organization . They keep me up to date with the cases of animal cruelty. I love their petitions.

Heidi’s Hope has been an incredible partner to our nonprofit. While we focus on providing food to people in need, Heidi’s Hope stays true to their mission of helping animals by generously supplying the dog and cat food we share with our clients who have pets. Their dedication to caring for animals makes a real difference in our community, and we’re so grateful for their continued support!

California has a large homeless population and most services available to them are located in the metropolitan areas. When you’re forced to sleep outside there is no better place to settle-in than near the coast where the temperature extremes are mitigated by the pacific ocean. Most beach communities along the coast are wealthy and have the tax base to support their own police force, consequently keeping the homeless off the curbs, park benches, and green space is often a 24hr effort. Wilmington is an area in Los Angeles nearest the Port of Los Angeles, a largely industrial area with some early established residential parcels that have survived the massive support services for trucking, marine, and logistic needs that have sprung up over the years. It also is a poor area of town without a lot of green spaces, parks, beaches, or voting constituents within the city limits of Los Angeles, consequently is has become an area where the homeless can experience the advantages of the marine weather influence without too much police harassment as long as they are not blocking any access or staring fires to keep warm. Kevin and Brandy were a married couple I knew at Kings Harbor Church who started organizing members of our church to assist the Wilmington Beacon Light Mission to help serve dinner and hand out used clothing. Over the years that expanded into Saturday sack lunch events that included haircuts, feet washing and new socks. When I moved and was no longer able to volunteer, Kevin and Brandy had Department Stores donating shoes to their events. I have continued to support financially from a distance of 95 miles away as they established a non-profit and expanded their outreach in the winter with sleeping bags, shelter tarps, and hot coffee. I have been impressed with Kevin and Brandy’s ability to engage business, individuals and government agencies to deliver essential resources and assistance directly to our most vulnerable on the streets which include women with children trying to live in cars. I adopted my dog, Daisy, from Adopt-an-Angel. They were, and are, a responsive, compassionate, dedicated organization that puts the animals' welfare first. Always. I would never adopt from anyone else. I was so impressed with them that I became a volunteer.

Hello!<br>My name is Kyleigh Richardson from Georgia Southern University and I spent the summer of 2024 with POP for my internship. It was an amazing and eye-opening experience. As an intern, I gained knowledge in research, communications, and event/outreach sectors involved with this nonprofit. The staff was very welcoming and promoted an inclusive and supportive learning environment. POP uses science-based solutions to combat the plastic pollution crisis occurring. This nonprofit uses their research to educate communities and inspire everyone to make more sustainable choices that will improve human and environmental health. Thank you POP for what you do and thank you for the amazing experience!

I would give them a zero if I could. I filled out the application. Then signed up for a discovery meeting. They sent me an email confirming the date/time for meeting and instructions to download “GOTO” a special app where we were supposed to have the discovery meeting. I downloaded the special app they required for the meeting and showed up to the meeting at the meeting code they gave at the day and time agreed upon on only to be disappointed that Paws4people never showed up!! At 11:02 (2 mins after the meeting was supposed to start) I started calling and emailing them attempting to find out where they were and I could never get a call back,,, just an email from someone at 11:20 am telling me to sign up *again for a different meeting and time!!!! I was so upset because they clearly didn’t respect me or my time, nor the meeting that was agreed upon where I showed up but they didn’t. Very disrespect and unorganized agency. Rude.

Five years ago, I trained and tutored at the Cape Fear Literacy Council. CFLC is a place where everyone learns in a judgement-free zone: writing mechanics, literature, math, computers, civics, history, science, sure - but also, empathy, compassion, patience, humor, and generosity of spirit.

I have been honored to serve as a volunteer for CUE since 2008 and have seen so much impact made for the families of the missing. <br> <br>CUE is an all volunteer organization who relies on private donations to be prepared to serve the missing persons community in any capacity. No one is paid to do the work we do, it is all time and talent given from the heart. Not only does CUE impact the families, but also each and every one of us who have been a part of the organization. <br> <br>

SMHI helped my family in 2019 with sewage water intrusion, lead exposure, mold and asbestos. Then again in 2021 when we moved to a new base and we're given a home with urin soaked carpets, a hole in the ceiling and bubling walls. In 2023 they assisted us with our home search through their partner organizations. They have been a huge help for our family and fought for us every step of the way. I became a volunteer with SMHI after all they have done for my own family, so I can help others too.

As first a resident in the Transitional Housing Program, then as a participant in the Urban Ministry Program I spent almost 10 years volunteering in the offices at First Fruit Ministries, working to help the homeless people the Ministry serves.<br>I spent most of my time in the office working in the Transitional Housing Program and one of the brightest ways that First Fruit shines is that it welcomes people without judgement, with love for who and what they are, wherever that happens to be, at any given moment. Nor did any staff ever push their own beliefs on people although it is clearly a Christian-driven ministry. The example was always evident through love, acceptance, and welcome, and was for me, and others I watched over those years, the key to finding a path back to a belief system I had long ago abandoned but would have run from if it had been pushed on me.<br>Over those years I witnessed people who because of what was freely given, because of the emotional and practical support consistently offered, turn their lives completely around. It is the blessing of my life that even after 7 years away I am in touch with several former residents and get to continue to watch people coming from great trauma which resulted in addiction, mental and emotional illness change into a person who found their way to a healthy, joyful, and purposeful life. They, and those I run into occasionally on the bus, even after all these years, still credit those changes to the love, support and foundation received at First Fruit Ministry.<br>The tenets of treating everyone with respect, of making sure they walked with dignity as part of the Ministry family, stretched through all the programs at the Ministry whether it was an encounter of a few minutes in the line at the food pantry or giving fresh clean towels to someone who was taking their first shower after days of living in a tent. Those tenets are an offering to the homeless the Ministry serves that, as I was often told, was not usually part of their experience at other agencies. Making a difference in how someone felt about themselves was, in my opinion, the greatest gift offered to the people the Ministry served and was the most important thing that laid the foundation for a better life.<br>First Fruit Ministry programs are worthy of support, whether it’s financial or time, because they work, because they make a real difference for the better in people’s lives, because they reach the people who need the most help yet are the most neglected among us, because helping someone else is a gift to yourself.<br>

Trillium Health Resources, a public Medicaid plan, partners with 2SHARE to refer our members who are in need of furniture. 2SHARE has helped our members whenever we asked and are great to work with. One family that we worked with were approved for a rental with a move in date of less than a week and needed a whole house worth of furniture. They stepped up and provided everything the family of 5 needed as soon as they moved in. Our members have shared how grateful they are for the help that 2SHARE provides as well as how kind and friendly their volunteers are.

Horrible experience! Will not return phone calls, can not get anyone to meet with you about your loved ones care. Unprofessional head nurse. THIS PLACE IS NOTHING BUT A DISAPPOINTMENT!! RUN FROM THIS COMPANY! DO NOT PUT YOUR LOVED ONE HERE!

I used to live at the Good Shepherd years ago. They provided good meals and a clean environment to stay in. Some of the workers and volunteers were very nice and some of the workers were very mean especially a man named Tim. He no longer works there, praise God! I would have thought a man that used to be homeless would have more mercy and compassion regarding others experiencing the worst situation in their lives but he did not unfortunately. Anyway there was a man, a social worker named Joe who did advise me on what I should do to obtain housing. I am very grateful for him because I was able to move in somewhere and it helped me a lot and then when the place I was living lost its funding and they were trying to evict everyone that lived there., Joe also helped me again to move into somewhere that I could afford because I was on a fixed income. I am grateful for the Good Shepherd so I didn't have to actually sleep on the streets or in a tent. I also pray that God will have mercy on Tim's soul and also I feel bad for customers and coworkers that may encounter him at the Walmart in monkey junction.

Greedy organization, needs to train their staff on professionalism.

We had our kids in mustard seed for 3 years. They were wonderful in the beginning but went down hill after Covid started. Both my sons got a bacterial skin infection and now have scars. I’ve never seen anything like it. The teachers were constantly unhappy and over worked and complained about normal behavior for toddlers. The teachers were no supportive in potty training efforts. My kids would get injuries on their heads that could have been prevented. Several times, they were sent home with dirty diapers that I would change in the car. It was evident they sat in them a long time. The teachers would often say the kids had fevers on Fridays so they could leave early. Once Covid started, the parents were not allowed inside. The daycare cited a state rule that did not exist. The owner texted me late at night and had a temper problem. I had to spend hundreds of dollars on getting doctors notes every time the kids had a rash or cold. Finally, my son was injured by a teacher causing the state to be involved and my pulling my kids out of the daycare. All of the extra clothes we left their labeled had disappeared along with my sons jacket. It was a very stressful experience and I was constantly worried about my children. I lost a lot of time at work and a lot of quality time with my children constantly getting doctors notes

Bobby Jean is an amazing person! Doing amazing things for foster children In our area! If you haven't met her, I encourage you to meet her, bring her a Sundrop and see and hear all the amazing things she has done.

Such a wonderful organization doing so much good for our local veterans. Great people and great dogs!

CSSC Inc. has accomplished much over its' 16 years of existence through improving regulatory standards, promoting & advancing the professional practice of soil science, continuing education, and networking with professional peers within the soils, natural resources, regulatory, engineering, and surveying communities.

In November 2018, the historic Camp Fire devastated the town of Paradise and surrounding communities in Butte County California. Overnight Chico, became an evacuation center for 20,000 people. The American Red Lion Disaster Fund sent us a generation donation to support our free Pet Product pantry that is still in use today. Now flash forward to 2020, the Bear Fire is raging in Butte County. We are gathering resources to support and we reached out to American Red Lion Disaster Fund. They responded immediately and donated along with offering advocacy to bring in more funds of support. Thank you American Red Lion Disaster Fund. The work you do is greatly appreciated and 100% goes to the family and pets displaced by these fires. Thank you from the staff and animals at Butte Humane Society. The Frank Harr Foundation offers so many wonderful services to the LGBTQIA community. It is clear that the people who are part of this non-profit strive their hardest to be there and expand much-needed resources. If only there were more people like them to help this little non-profit grow, their impact would also grow! This program reaches so many children and adults, it is amazing. Situated on a farm off Sidbury Road, miracles often occur with little fanfare. Those of us who volunteer are so fortunate. We experience the pureness of the process of trust, faith and hope when the rider progresses and from witnessing their joy. I encourage everyone, donate, volunteer... enjoy the ride and journey!
