This compassionate organization has been in existence since The 1980’s , providing sanctuary to rescued “farmed” animals. I have stayed at their (Tracey Stewart designed ) “tiny houses” on site and seen first hand their daily care of the many rescued residents; safely enjoying their lives!

Farm Sanctuary Co-Founder Gene Baur (holds a Masters degree in Agricultural Engineering from Cornell) started this rescue & refuge in 1985 and since then has provided hands on lifetime Care and Public Education in conjunction with very knowledgeable staff and (help from Cornell Hospital) for hundreds of innocent sheep, goats, cows, chickens, geese, ducks, and pigs
Nearby Watkins Glen honors the organization with a floor to ceiling window display showing its history and work on their Main Street of town with restaurants offering Vegan options and Ben & Jerry’s Vegan flavors at their local Baskin Robbins!
Farm Sanctuary saves as many farmed animals they can, physically, and make them forever safe from abuse, torture and being eaten. In doing so, people like me visit the farms they have and upon meeting the awesome animals make a committed decision to become vegan, thus saving many more animals from the pain they live through. I can't say enough about the work they do that saves animals and people alike.

Love love love this place. These guys do wonderful work. Rescuing and rehabilitation the "unwanted " animals left over from the animal feed lot industry. Such misery that is turned into triumph with a little patience and love. These animals are the lucky ones and are saved from a very cruel industry that needs to stop. I will continue to give my money and my time to this organization. Save a life, go vegan!
There aren't many charities that devote their time to rescuing farm animals and publicizing this cause. I am happy with this charity and wish there would be more groups that would rescue these poor animals.

I think this organization is great. I am glad there is an organization to rescue farm animals since sadly it is something most people don't seem to think about.
My children and I are sponsers for Farm Sanctuary Animal Shelter by donating money to help them take care of the many animals they rescue from factory farming. We live in Sweden, but when we visited the US, we took a trip to Farm Sanctuary in Watkins Glen and were given a tour of the Farm and even got to volunteer -- we got to clean out a duck swimming pool and feed apples to some huge pigs that are among the few who are allowed to live to grow to full size nowadays. At Thanksgiving time Farm Sanctuary has a programme where you can sponser a turkey -- instead of eating one. There is so much more to eat than turkeys and by not eating meat, the food resources go so much further to help people have more to eat.
