I have worked with United Way on various volunteer initiatives, and they are always so passionate about the work that they do and about empowering the community. They work tirelessly to make sure people in need have essential resources. It is one thing to do the work, but they are extremely passionate about what they do! I would recommend working with them and using their resources to anyone!

The people involved in the Literacy Council are extremely professional, very organized, very caring and always wanting to know how they can be better. They help so many people to function successfully in an English speaking society.

I can’t think of a better way to honor the lives of our fallen hero’s than the way that Legacies Alive does it. The families, friends and loved ones of all the fallen hero’s will never be forgotten thanks to Legacies Alive!

We found our 2 German Shepherd mixes there. They were litter mates, yet very different. JJ was light brown, very thin. CC was shorter, robust. They lived with us for over 10 years, making us laugh. They now live in our hearts.

The Washington city mission is doing horabel things to some clients as my self . and there doing it the name of my savior jesues Christ...they should be investigated...

A tremendously dedicated group of volunteers is restoring an historic combat veteran Douglas C-53 to flight. This aircraft participated in Operation Torch and was later the official transport for the Governor of Ohio. It languished for decades at a rural Ohio airport until Jason Capra decided to invest his life savings into bringing her back to life. <br><br>"Beach City Baby" was brought to ferry-flight condition and flown to Washington PA, where she is enjoying a complete tear-down and rebuild to her 1943 configuration and paint scheme. <br><br>Follow along: https://www.facebook.com/groups/497180673794873/

Years ago, I was researching the life of my grandfather, who worked in the Pittsburgh streetcar system, but died long before I was born. As now, I was living outside Pennsylvania, far from the museum. The PTM director and archivist were each responsive to my outreach for information. The archivist coordinated several research visits with me, and was helpful in directing me to information at the PTM archives. My research has been completed for years, but that experience is why I remain an out-of-state supporter of PTM. This museum is valuable not only for preserving the past, but also for providing contemporary context as streetcar systems make a comeback in many city centers. I urge visitors to PTM not only to marvel at the magnificently restored streetcars, but also remember the thousands of people who built and operated this and similar systems in the early 20th century.

Washington County Habitat for Humanity has helped over 200 people realize their dream of owning their own home. They have built 54 houses in Washington County and are working on number 55 & 56 located on Ford St. in Washington. These houses are sold to deserving, qualifying families at a lower cost, with a no interest mortgage. Families must qualify with the ability to pay a mortgage, credit worthiness and no criminal background. They are required to do sweat equity hours, first in the ReStore, then on another perspective families home, saving the last 75 sweat equity hours for their own home. This non-profit could not build these safe, decent, affordable homes with out donations of money, properties, homes, cars and the especially the money generated from the ReStore. CASA is an immediate way of helping children. The Washington, Pa office has all the support you need to make a difference in a child's life. The office gives you training, sets you up to succeed, helps you report to the court, and any hand holding you need to help the child get through the court system without blaming themselves with the case. This is a fantastic support system with the Judge holding you in high esteem for your efforts. I have been doing this for over five years and I cannot think of a better way of using my time for helping anyone.

Washington-Greene County Blind Association has received accreditation from the National Accreditation Council for Blind and Low Vision Services (NAC). NAC is the only accrediting body that solely focuses on standards and best practices for blind and low vision services with the consumer in mind. Washington-Greene County Blind Association has demonstrated that it meets or exceeds the standards set by NAC for delivery of blind and low vision services. The determination for accreditation is a rigorous process that involves self-examination by the organization, an on-site peer review to verify processes and procedures by a team of professionals serving in the field and a review of the findings by the NAC Accreditation Committee. NAC congratulates Washington-Green County Blind Association on its accredited status.

I am a board member and longstanding supporter of Try-Again Homes(TAH). I also serve as a director on several other local boards of both non-profit and for-profit organizations. I felt compelled to write this review in light of the recent, and I believe unsubstantiated, negative review posted here on GuideStar. I have remained involved with TAH because of the excellent work they do in our communities, providing critical services to children and families in need. During my tenure at TAH the organization has received excellent program reviews and clean fiscal audits. TAH continues to maintain longstanding favorable relationships with its service contractors such as Washington County CYS and the WVDHHR , as well as with its donors and other stakeholders. TAH consistently strives to improve upon its strong historical performance and utilizes client and staff satisfaction surveys in their continuous quality improvement initiatives. The organization continues to reflect a stable financial condition with healthy fund balances in both the Pennsylvania and West Virginia corporations. These fund balances have allowed the organization to incur, and comfortably absorb, operating deficits from time to time, while continuing to provide the services needed by their constituents. As with most non-profits, TAH has experienced fluctuations in revenue and expense levels over the years, and given the ever changing economic environment within which they operate, that volatility will likely persist. <br> <br>I would highly recommend TAH to anyone considering a charitable contribution and encourage you to review the 990's to obtain the facts about this very worthwhile organization.
