Imagine if you will a black father to newborn twins looking for work to help support them. A professional with over 10 years of experience working with children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in the public school setting, private school setting, clinical setting, and residential setting while also possessing the knowledge obtained from earning a master’s degree in special education along with a graduate certificate in applied behavior analysis. Imagine being accepted for hire at Jill’s House because of these experiences, qualities, and credentials only to later have your employment retracted because my children were born out of wedlock and because I choose to support their mother, whom I am not married to, by sharing a place of residence so that we all can support each other. Imagine a Jesus who doesn’t accept all. A Jesus who passes the judgement of man through lesser men. Imagine me, doing everything that I can to support my newborn twins by seeking employment that would have me joyfully helping the less fortunate in our unforgiving and unaccommodating society. And then to receive a phone call rather that proof-worthy documentation via email retracting my hire because of this standard of theirs that they choose to be judgemental, devisive, unwelcoming, and incredibly un-Jesus-like with. This is how Jill’s House represents Christianity. How unfortunate. W.W.J.D?

SCNOVA provides such a wonderful service to seniors in our community. The medical rides provided by a pre-screened, caring volunteer make such a difference to our clients with limited means. Many don't have the funds or technology to use taxi or ride share services. Knowing they have a safe ride can ease their stress and anxiety when dealing with medical issues. Rides also provide companionship and are fulfilling for the volunteer drivers. Also, social, educational, and support programs provide social connection and personal growth opportunities. Further, volunteering in the office or supporting events provides additional chances to get involved and make new friends. The staff are wonderful and caring and the programs are enriching. It's great to be a part of this community.

211 Los Angeles aka United Way, exposed me to sex trafficking. I called 211 Los Angeles for the augmented winter shelter program. They sent me to the Casa Bell motel in Inglewood, California and the hotel manager said he had no idea what I was talking about. Then they sent me to the Studio 6 located at 525 S. Harbor Blvd in San Pedro. I was in room 108 and the hotel manager sends multiple men to my room. I didn't answer the door. The next day the motel owner tells 211 Los Angeles that I cancelled my room. I've had the blessing of working with the team at Career Confidence for several years and am continually impressed with how selfless, caring and giving of their time they are. They are truly dedicated to helping job seekers to find their next role, and to giving them the resources that they need to do so. This is a quality organization and a quality team, and it's been a pleasure to work with them in the capacity of technical support and webmaster (on their previous website).

My only experience was excellent! I rented a primative cabin in the George Washington National Forest. I went by myself, hiking the 3 miles in December and enjoying the cabin. It was a great trip! I wanted to thank the organization for keeping the 100 year old cabin in good shape, maintaining the cabin, tools, and privy, and for the clear instructions and well organized system. I plan to go to another cabin for a March hike. I highly recommend it.

AHDS usually serve the most needy people in the remote areas, while mostly insecure, with health, nutrition, education, humanitarian and community development projects. It is a unique character of AHDS, while most of others are looking for the projects in Urban, nearby and secure areas where access and facilities are easy.

I happily give my time, talent and treasure to my church, Vienna Presbyterian in Northern Virginia. Five years ago, when I was unemployed and almost lost my home, I attended their job support group and was hired by them part-time as a childcare provider. They helped me a couple of times with paying my mortgage. I am a widow and the men of my church enjoy cleaning my yard and cutting my grass at no charge. I am an African-American woman and my church is predominantly white. They make me feel welcome and give me much love. They give a lot to the local community and in poor countries. We welcome the homeless and give them shelter during the winter. We send missionaries to Cuba and Haiti and help people to learn skills and rebuild their communities. The teens love to raise money and give food and clothing to the local immigrants. We meet with local churches to discuss racial reconciliation and how the races can come together in unity. We have crop walks to raise money for the hungry. It is a church that practices love for all people no matter what race, religion, economic background or sexual orientation. I am happy to give to my church in many ways. They are a blessing to me and I am a blessing to them. Thank you.

So thankful to the Men's Health Network. My husband and I went to a community event they did earlier this year and we did our blood work. The nice staff explained what our results meant and told us how to get healthy. Well a week later my husband's prostate results came back high. We had no idea what it meant. I called and spoke to the nice lady in charge and she gave us recommendations to talk to our doctor and some other prostate doctors she knew. As scary as it was during the process, she helped a lot to calm my nerves. My husband will be ok, he's undergoing treatment, praise Jesus we caught it early. Thank you to the staff for doing the events and being there for our community when we feel we are forgotten sometimes in the current day and age. If I could give 10 stars I would. God bless you all.

I wanted to give back to a charity to enrich the lives of stroke survivors. The founding fathers and I started this event after I had a massive stroke which affected my ability to effectively communicate. My stroke left me with a choice to fight back or give up. I chose to fight. I found an amazing place called the Stroke Comeback Center in Vienna, VA, for stroke survivors just like me. My stroke was 8&frac12; years ago and it was a long hard road but I believed in myself and found a way to regain my life back even if there are some quirks; but it suits me just fine. My ability to fight keeps me occupied and I will never give up as long as I live!<br><br>We started a golf tournament called the Kalikie Classic (it's my name in Hawaiian). It's been running for 8 years and the past year we raised over $15,000 for benefiting the scholarship fund. All the proceeds from this event are donated to the Stroke Comeback Center so that other stroke survivors can regain their speech. The Stroke Comeback Center is a 501(c)3 nonprofit which provides support and services to families who have experienced a stroke, regardless of their ability to pay. They are the only facility like this in the DC metropolitan area.<br><br>Christie 'Kalikie' Arnold

BRAWS: &#8203;Bringing Resources to Aid Women's Shelter (www.BRAWS.org) is a volunteer-driven, community-based 501(c)(3) organization that supports struggling women, teenagers, and preteen girls living in local homeless and transitional housing shelters by providing new bras, unopened packages of underwear, and sealed boxes of tampons, pads, and pantyliners.<br> <br>The majority of individuals in a homeless shelter at any given time are women and their children. These women are typically victims of domestic violence and are fleeing an abusive home looking to start over in a safe environment. Many other women in shelters are single mothers who lost their jobs due to unforeseen circumstances and need help to get back on their feet. Regardless of the situation that led these women to homelessness, they need our support - both physical and emotional - to transition to a better life for themselves and their children.<br> <br>I support BRAWS because they give NEW bras, NEW underwear, and NEW boxes of tampons and pads to support the well being of these many women and girls. Unbeknownst to most people, these are some of the most requested critical needs by women in shelters. Bras and feminine hygiene products are rarely donated, expensive items for a shelter to replenish, and not covered by food stamps. Insufficient access to these items often leads to unsanitary conditions, a lack of confidence, and major health problems.<br> <br>In the last 10 months, BRAWS has already donated over 1,500 new bras and underwear, as well as tens of thousands of feminine hygiene products to women, teenage, and pre-teen girls in 15 local shelters. They are always in need of in-kind and financial contributions to replenish these shelters, as well as support the many other shelters in the Greater DC area that they have not yet been able to serve.

The news today reported that SourceAmerica has organized itself so that a board or special committee hands out contracts to companies with which its members are associated. The funds are from the federal government and are intended to be used to employ people who have serious disabilities but can function in jobs which they are capable of doing. There was an interview with an older man who had an IT position with a company that had lost its contract which resulted in loss of 16 disabled but high functioning individual. Overall, the allegation against Source America is that the companies in which the board or committee members have interests get a lions' share of the awarded contracts. It is also alleged that SourceAmerica itself does not evaluate the disabled persons who are hired by the companies which receive contracts. SourceAmerica gets billions of dollars of taxpayer money from the government but it seems it is mainly using the funds to funnel money to companies in which the deciding members have interests. I hope that the allegations are not true but there is an ongoing investigation. I notice that on SourceAmerica's website, there are lots of photos of young people with obvious disabilities which are associated with low functional abilities. Many companies hire such people to do menial jobs. The older gentleman who was interviewed for the report has a tumor on his spine and it is difficult for him to move. He works from home with a computer, gets up each morning and goes to work at his desk. IT requires people who are trained, know programming, operating systems, databases, etc. I am going to check out the law which set up AbilityOne, the federal program which funds SourceAmerica. I pray that these allegations are untrue but, if they turn out to be factual, it is simply one more example of self-serving persons in positions of power.

I was an invited guess to an event held in July at the stonewall golf club in Gainesville, Virginia. I met several of the board members and their national spokes person for the foundation Nathan osmunda. What a first class event raising a lot of money to help their next case in NC. I have never met such a dedicated team helping our military men and women who have been wounded by war. Their board members many of whom were in the military have lived through the combats of war and deeply know what these wounded veterans need. It is a deeply emotional outreach and such dedication can not be thanked enough.

I found this group when my son was 3 months old and screaming every time I tried to wear him in a carrier. I literally wept tears of joy when a friend recommended them as a place to help me wear my son comfortably. At the first meeting, they corrected my wearing "errors," and found me a carrier that fit me and my son perfectly - I was hooked! I became a member on the spot, and began going to monthly meetings, trying out a different carrier each month. Two years later, I still wear my son, and now volunteer as the librarian for one of the meetings. It's an amazing, helpful, loving group of people - I don't know what I would have done without them!

International Tibet Network is a vital organisation within the movement promoting freedom and human rights for the people of Tibet. The Network coordinates regional and international campaigns, provides tools and resources for Tibet groups and assists those wishing to get a Tibet group started in their own country. With only a handful of staff it manages to provide an amazing and indispensable service.

Great little preschool community in Vienna, VA. Everyone knows all the kids and the parents, especially those who spend their entire preschool careers there.

Discover the Vienna Art Center at 115 Pleasant Street, NW, in the heart of Vienna, and find a space where artists display and sell original art. In addition, adults and children participate in art classes and workshops. <br>Members of the Vienna Arts Society display their works throughout Vienna. The annual Treasury of Art juried show and sale at the Vienna Community Center draws artists and patrons from Virginia, Maryland and DC the weekend before Thanksgiving each year.

I learned of Wolf Trap after two of my daughters moved from Iowa to Virginia. It is a beautiful place to enjoy the arts. One of my daughters volunteers at Wolf Trap regularly and loves the variety of performances. I was privileged to get to see the final showing of "Peter Pan" and absolutely loved it. I always await the season's offerings to plan a trip to VA around the performances. Thank you, Wolf Trap staff
