Truckee Nonprofits and Charities

Many thanks to the HighFives Foundation for approving a grant for me to receive a bike carrier so that I will be able to transport my tricycle to rail trails. In 2023 I had a bicycle accident that resulted in a spinal cord injury. I was an avid road and mountain biker prior to my injury. This grant will allow me to enjoy riding on a regular basis again!

I have been using CharitySmith for over 10 years. They have been instrumental in the administration of my memorial scholarship fund. They take care of processing donations, meeting IRS reporting requirements, and generally save me the headaches of creating and managing my own 501c3 non profit. That frees me up to focus on the two most important and personally rewarding functions: raising money and giving it away. <br>My fund would not be where it is today (102 scholarships awarded so far) without the help of CharitySmith.

I am a 70 year old and I love the Kidzone ! I was first attracted to the museum by their vision of children learning through play. As I became more involved with the Director and the staff I started to understand how important their role in our community is. Important enough that I joined the Board of Directors and worked on the board for several years. The team is amazing and their bilingual staff do incredible outreach to our community. The museum works collaboratively with the School District and many other organizations for the benefit of the children in our communities. They are working hard to reopen safely during this time of Covid. Given the small space of the current museum this is a challenge and they are doing a remarkable job. It is a joy to work with Carol, Jenn and team. Check out the new podcast series "Small Talk Tahoe" produced by Helen one of their hard working volunteers. As Truckee and North Tahoe continue to grow, the team at the museum are working hard to ensure we have the space and programing to meet the need.

Compassion, deft therapeutic skill, and up-to-the-minute theoretical models mesh to save troubled youth who are beyond at-risk, and bring them back to life after being abandoned by families, harassed by peers, and zoned-out on anti-psychotic medication. I am the long time President of EAA1073 better known as the Experimental Aircraft Association Chapter here in Truckee, California. We are the main volunteer workforce that organizes, promotes and runs the Truckee Tahoe AirShow & Family Festival. We raise monies through sponsorships and vendor sales at the event and then look to find youth-oriented groups or organizations that need monetary support. I was living in Shanghai and preparing to move back to the US. Before repatriating, I really wanted to volunteer at a nonprofit that was doing good in this world in a place that really needed it. A friend of mine lived in Cambodia for 6 months, working for Angkor Hospital for Children, so trusted her recommendation for credible nonprofits, and JWOC was at the top of her list. <br><br>David, the Education and Volunteer Manager was very responsive when receiving my inquiry. Highly professional, David was extremely informative - orienting me to JWOC and the programs which I would be working on, and provided recommendations on living accommodations and general FYI’s as a first time visitor to Cambodia.<br><br>During my volunteer experience, JWOC was in transition with staff and within their community outreach and training programs, so I believe I came at a great time to help make an impactful change. My focus for the month would be in reshaping their Health & Nutrition Training and Positive Parenting programs. Kneath, the Managing Director is a great leader and was very supportive/ open to some of my program development recommendations. <br><br>One thing I love about traveling is simply the people you meet along the way and their life stories - I got to know several of the scholarship student recipients, who were either teachers for the JWOC free classes/ part of the Community Support team, and it was so incredible to learn about their aspirations. Every child attending free classes and programs offered at JWOC had such a light in their eyes, and an eagerness to learn. The villiagers I met that signed up for Home Gardens training (farming crops and composting) also seemed so happy to come together as a community to learn and grow together.<br><br>Whether it was doing research online, or hanging out in the library reading and playing educational games with the children who attend JWOC programs, it was all such a joy! Firsthand helping promote creativity in Cambodia’s youth during Sunday Art Classes and joining staff out in the village to help facilitate training on farming crops and composting was also very fruitful and rewarding.<br><br>It was a privilege to work with such wonderful people and be a part of something bigger than me. This is one of the best organizations I have ever had the pleasure of working with. The compassion and care they give to animals at the shelter is outstanding. The partnership between the staff and volunteers is great. <br><br>I have adopted two cats from HSTT and both have turned out to be great additions to our family.

One of their staff provided me with guidance on a complicated eviction matter. As a result of her advice, I was able to trounce a guy in court who is generally considered to be the top real estate attorney in the Tahoe area. <br> <br>This is a great organization! <br> <br>R. Martin

Sierra Expeditionary Learning School (SELS) is in its 3rd year and already having a positive impact on its students, the entire school district and the town of Truckee. The school started out small and is performing smart growth to a cap of 210 students. The Director and Board are diligent budget keepers making every cent count. The school is filled with high quality teachers and staff who are passionate about Expeditionary Learning (EL). The PSIA-W Education Foundation assist members of the organization in developing skills to teach the fundamentals of Skiing, Snowboarding and Nordic to able and adaptive participants. A large part of teaching is understanding the guest and understanding yourself and why you teach. The PSIA-W Education Foundation provides scholarships. We offer the chance of life changing experiences to our membership that can later lead to life changes experiences to multiple people participating in winter sports.

We were fortunate enough to attend Nā Lei Hulu I Ka Wēkiu which was presented by Arts for the Schools. The performance was outstanding and at a caliber two notches above what I would expect for a rural region. Thank you AFtS!

My daughter has been a student at innerrhythms for quite a few years. Her skill level and ability has improved greatly due to the professionalism of the instructors and the individual attention given to each student. The instructors do a great job of growing each student individually and are continuously making sure they are gaining the most from their time in the studio. <br>The business end of the organization has kept up with the growth of the clientele and continues to find ways to improve and to keep families informed.
