Scituate Community Christmas is more than Christmas! A helping hand to those in need, led by generous volunteers. A real community asset!

This is a parish whose church was ordered closed by the Roman Catholic Archbishop in the fallout of the Roman Catholic Priest abuse scandals. This was a time when the Archdiocese, desperate for money was selling off Churches.The parishioners held vigil for 12.5 years in an attempt to have it reopened, to no avail. <br>After it was closed the parishioners moved to the Masonic Lodge a few miles from the parish.<br>They are a small active Ecumenical Catholic parish now with no financial support other than what the parishioners put in the collection box on Sunday.<br>They have hopes of building a small Chapel. Any help you can give will be greatly appreciated

I became involved with South Shore Peer recovery 2 years ago when I went to their host showing of "The Anonymous People." Our daughter entered treatment for substance use disorder the year before and we were anxious to learn more and prepare ourselves for an uncertain future. The organization was new and I offered to help them launch as a not-for-profit as this is my area of expertise. Little did I know that I had joined a wonderful group who were committed to continually paying forward the joy and hope that they had found through recovery. We gratefully celebrate the joy and renewed hope that we have found in daughter's recovery. She celebrates 3 years this spring and has found a community of support to help her on her journey. South Shore Peer recovery offers just such a safety net for hundreds of individuals and families across the South Shore of Massachusetts. 100% volunteer driven, this group makes a difference every day for individuals and families who are dealing with this disease. We hope to expand our space and hire a coordinator to help drive the efforts of hundreds of volunteers who provide rides, acupuncture, meditation groups, a speakers bureau, and 1:1 peer support. I am a regular volunteer and have asked friends and family to honor me with donations to this wonderful organization instead of gifts. I hope this will help - recovery centers can be the link between formal treatment and building a new life through recovery. At a time when there is so much heartbreak as a result of the opiod epidemic, I have found hope and gratitude through South Shore Peer recovery! I wish the same for other families!

The name of the ministry sounds laudable but you'd be wise to stay clear of it. The priest who runs it once had his faculties suspended because he refused to serve in a Parish at a time when the number of available priests are dwindling at an alarming rate. His faculties have since been restored but he still remains "unassigned" and operates with little oversight. The bulk of his activities center on raising money to complete a house on a property owned by the ministry. He does this by conducting retreats at various locations throughout New England and by making appeals through his monthly newsletter. Over the years many have come and gone, largly due to an abrasive, controling and somewhat eccentric personality that sees people as raw material to be conscripted and used to advance a self-serving agenda. Be forewarned, you're worth and value to the minstry is commensurate with what you bring to the table. Be sure to have plenty of cash, a subservient attitude, and plenty of gullibility.
