As a second-year college student with no financial means to pay for college education or ideal schedule to go to school full-time (second job, taking care of younger siblings due to full-time working parents), JobTrain gave me the means to achieve my academic goals in a manageable schedule and work-load. We learned new units everyday in a manner that worked for my learning-style— reading AND hands-on that was alternated perfectly. I now work a stable job and have access to educational resources within my job as a Medical Assistant/Patient Care Coordinator that I never could have imagined. Thank you!!

Looma Education is a free learning platform with easy-to-use lesson-planning capabilities in education sector of Nepal. Looma Education aims to make the class more interactive as the teachers are able to add games or other material in their lesson plans which is displayed on a slide-like platform. The focus on remote and marginalized communities by the organization has leveraged the power of technology. This has acted as a bridge which narrowed the educational gap caused by geography of the country. From the teacher and instructor point of view, the technological advancement as such materialized by Looma is a boon in education sector. Further, this provides the scope for technologically sound students from both rural and urban areas throughout the nation.

I support this foundation wholeheartedly. Kim Nye and her TESS Research Foundation tirelessly and joyously aim to make the seemingly impossible possible for kids and families living with SLC13A5. Their mission is to provide support, information, hope, and community to SLC13A5 families, to find treatments for the kids, and to ultimately find a cure. They are a vital, creative force for improving the lives of children born with this form of epilepsy by all means possible.

My phone buddy Michelle is very friendly and is interested in engaging with me through our weekly phone calls. She has a pleasant speaking voice and is a good listener when I share from my life. We always find many subjects to talk about which makes our conversations stimulating. She always responds with enthusiasm when I share about my young life in the 1920s-1940s. I appreciate that she always calls me promptly at 1:00pm. I’m grateful that Friendly Voices has given me new friend.<br><br><br>

I had a totally life changing experience that not only lifted my hopes and aspirations, but proved to me that I can and will make the difference in the world that I have dreamed of. <br><br>In my opinion, Team4Tech is about finding out what uncharted territories exist in education, and boldly tackling them with grace.

Junior League of Palo Alto, Mid-Peninsula empowers women to be the drivers of change by using effective action and promoting volunteerism. As a member of JLPA-MP, I've been fortunate to be part of an organization that truly makes a difference in the lives of members as well as the community. Volunteering with the JLPA-MP has allowed me to strengthen my current skills & develop new skills that I may not have had the chance to develop in my career. I feel like I am giving back to my community & that our impact is improving lives in the local community. It is a privilege to be a member of an organization that is creating stronger more empowered women and in doing so, building stronger, better communities.

I give to the M-A Foundation for the Future because the Foundation funds the Partnership for Success, an innovative program that holistically serves the academic and social-emotional needs of under-resourced students. Many of the kids who benefit and visit the hub of the Partnership for Success'the Menlo-Atherton Student Support Center'are my students. I have tutored Menlo-Atherton English Language Development students for 8 years. In the middle of the thriving, opportunity-rich Silicon Valley is a large population of newly arrived families struggling to make rent and bills for basic necessities. Many of them have fled violence-laden streets, under-par schools and volatile political climates'all for the hope that things can be better for their kids, who are either brought or sent. These students need to master English quickly, tackle challenging classes and find a way to keep their eyes on their dreams. Now more than ever, these students need support, assistance and guidance. Menlo-Atherton High School provides them with a welcoming, enriching environment on its hugely diverse campus'it also gives them a place to be that is smaller, nurturing and meant for them. And the Menlo-Atherton Foundation for the Future makes the programming that serves their specific, complex needs possible.<br /><br />Over the years, I have been so inspired by my students. There's Yanci, who came a few years ago from Guatemala with her mom and dad. She wants to be a doctor and take care of patients in a community like her own adopted home of East Palo Alto. She has gotten so much recognition and positive feedback at Menlo-Atherton and Partnership for Success staff that I know she is going to make it happen. And Kevin, an incredibly talented young man who is striving to learn to be a web-designer or computer animator. Kevin will get there with the confidence he has gained at Menlo-Atherton, where he has learned to advocate for himself. I had a student a few years back named Luis who is currently in his second year of Junior College. Luis has always worked the evening shift as he helps his parents make ends meet. He writes me notes on facebook to let me know that he is so grateful for the time and effort I put into helping him. And then, there's Alejandra, a straight-A student who persevered and got her diploma two years after finishing all her credits because she was so nervous when she took the English exit exam that she missed passing repeatedly by just one point. She kept on going and that diploma is hers now, as is steady, meaningful work. <br /><br />Kids who enter ELD classes have an uphill battle. They take all their other classes in English before they have a working knowledge of the language. But, at Menlo-Atherton, so many of them beat what seem like crippling odds, because they have a place to go and a network of programs to help them; the Menlo-Atherton Partnership for Success. There, they are loved, known and understood. And surrounded by adults who believe in them. That's why I give my time and why I will always support the Menlo-Atherton Foundation for the Future. Because of the Foundation and against mounting external odds, my students can still dream.<br />

Attending their NYC conference, and being given a scholarship to help with my attendance, made an incredible impact on the strategies that I use in my work to promote sustainability. Their staff is courteous, able to identify the strengths of their beneficiaries, and welcome the involvement from all.

I heard about the good things being done by Kenya Help for the under-served in Kenya. Impressive!

Impact for good is the inspiration which motivates the Peninsula Volunteers, Inc. organization. As a board member and volunteer, I have seen the value and results of services Peninsula Volunteers, Inc. provides to aging, handicapped, hungry and lonely adults. <br> <br> On our visit to a Meals On Wheels client, she greeted us with grateful smiles and urged us to stay and chat because we would be the only people she would see all day and until we, or another volunteer, arrived again with her next meal. We could not stay more than a few minutes, because other homebound clients also needed their meals. <br>After this experience I realized how many folks, especially seniors, feel lonely and isolated. <br> <br>This experience reinforced the reason why we came and the critical need for the services services which Peninsula Volunteers, Inc. provides. I am so glad to serve on the Board of Peninsula Volunteers, Inc. and give my time and treasure to an organization who helps so many. The housing, food and socialization offered through Peninsula Volunteers, Inc. programs help the aging adults in our community survive and thrive and that is impact for good.

I volunteered with IVSN and had a thoroughly rewarding experience doing so. I helped out at their Opportunity Center in Palo Alto and was stunned to see the progressive techniques being used to help clients get back on their feet. I have never been to an opportunity center that engages such unique practices to incentivize clients into taking initiative. For example, all clients want to get to the Opportunity Center immediately after it opens to have the first pickings at breakfast and showers. However, only the people who are enrolled in their track system can arrive right when it opens--everyone else must wait an hour. This incentivizes people to be engaged in classes through their "track system" and thus learn skills to better overcome their situation.

I first became aware of Mongabay in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina when the site reported on developments at the city's aquarium. Since then, I've been a regular reader. When Mongabay became a non-profit, I decided it was my turn to pay something back, so I became a supporter.

Over the years I've helped with transportation of dogs and materials, fostering, home visits, and preparing for and assisting at fundraisers. I've watched the organization grow and change, and met lots of dogs whose lives turned out much better than they could have because of this organization. GSPs are a nutty bunch, and often don't test well on shelter temperament tests because they're so into everything that they don't "display interest in people". The foster program provided by NorCal GSP Rescue allows these great dogs to get out of the high-stress environment of a shelter, chill out, brush up on their manners, and meet people who are ready to adopt a GSP forever.

The Alexandra Chiles Foundation provides bead kits and other creative activities for very sick girls to help alleviate the stress of their illness and provide some welcome relief from their sickness. Having had a child with a tumor in her back, I have some understanding of how important these small acts of kindess can be for someone who is sick. I'm sure this organization has helped brighten the day of thousands of sick girls over the years and will continue this important work for many years to come!

I have been a volunteer with NGRR for over 10 years. All of the volunteers work very hard to do the right thing by every dog that comes into their care. The organization board supports and backs up the volunteers to do the best and most they can for each and every situation. <br>In reference to the other comment here, bottom line, the judge sided with Jill and Norcal. There is always more to the story and this is just one that happened to be very complicated. Get the facts. <br>Now back to all the good work NGRR does. Medical bills last year reached over $150k. Broken legs, cancer, hips, knees, heartworm, aspergillus, obesity - we see it all. Two six month old puppies that spent their first months in agony as their eye lashes turned in and rubbed on their eyes - we fixed that and now they are happy, healthy dogs living a great life in their forever home. NGRR does all these things with only donations and volunteers. We don't have a kenel, our dogs are welcomed into foster homes to be loved until the right family comes along and is matched to them.
