Mission: To aid those in our community who find themselves unemployed, sick, or for some unforeseen situation, unable to feed their family or meet their financial or basic needs.
Programs: Family assistance: three days each week, we are open to clients seeking financial assistance. Once we receive proof of id and income (or past income), and we have determined their needs, we assist them as needed (within our guidelines) with rent or mortgage (or a portion thereof), utilities (electric, heating fuel, and water), and with medical and/or dental bills and prescriptions. Additionally, we have clients who are canswer patients that we provide with nutritional beverages, adult incontenance products, and transportation assistance to and from treatments. We also occasionally help with baby diapers, formula, and other miscellaneous needs. In 2017 we served a total of 1,033 people through our family assistance program.
food pantry: our food pantry is open two days per week and any time for emergencies. In 2017 we were able to help feed a total of 9,619 individuals, including 976 elderlies (65+) and 3,502 children (under 18). We distributed over 87 tons of food. We receive food from the blue ridge area food bank and the usda, as well as from local individuals, churches, and businesses, as well as from drives. We also supplement what we receive by purchasing food from local stores.
