I recently moved back to the Logansport community after 30 years and looked at ways to get involved and give back to the community. I look to the United Way to get connected! I started as a Reading Railroad volunteer, then a Live United Volunteer, now I am a donor and a board member. I have been so impressed with how the United Way supports our community. The opportunities they provide for volunteers and the opportunity for donors to make a difference in the community.

United Way of Cass County not only helps it's partner agencies, but has the pulse on the community and volunteers at events, helps other organizations and is heavily involved with our youth from Reading Railroad to Begindergarten to scholarships and programs at the Cass County Family Y to keep youth healthy and active. They also help seniors and citizens who may not be able to afford a car with public transportation through Cass Area Transit. I understand that if UWAY ceased to exist in Cass County, it would be very difficult if not impossible to continue all these programs and our citizens would be worse off.

United Way of Cass County is awesome! I love that they have Cass County Reading Railroad. The programs provided for the children and families in our community are great ways to get them ready for school and life. I believe that the earlier children begin to learn, the better they will be in life. One of the programs that I volunteer with is the Business Partner Program. As a Business Partner, I love being able to share a story with a classroom full of little minds. It is so rewarding to be able to see their faces light up when I walk in to the classroom to share a story each month. They think it is so neat that each months book that I read is given to their classroom for their classroom library. The smiles from the kids just warms my heart. The United Way also provides activities with each book that can be done. This program is in all 4 school corporations in the county - Caston, Lewis Cass, Logansport, and Pioneer. The other Reading Railroad Programs include Begindergarten, Dolly Parton's Imagination Library and First Grade Library Visits. It is amazing that the United Way makes such impact in so many children's lives in our community/county.
On a scale from 1 to 10, I give the United Way of Cass County an 11!!!

United Way of Cass County plays an essential role in supporting the success and well-being of our students and community. Through their generous funding, Felix's Pantry continues to provide much-needed food resources to our families at Landis Elementary, ensuring that no student faces hunger. Additionally, their partnership with Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library brings the joy of reading to our youngest learners by delivering a book each month directly to their homes, fostering a love for literacy that grows with each child.

United Way’s commitment to Early Childhood Literacy is evident through their four Reading Railroad programs, which create meaningful opportunities for early learning and educational growth. Beyond education, they support a broad range of critical services through their Partner Agencies and funding initiatives, all of which promote the core pillars of Education, Health, and Financial Stability.

At Landis Elementary, we have witnessed firsthand the positive impact United Way has on our students and their families. We are incredibly grateful for their continued efforts to make our community stronger and provide opportunities for all to thrive.

Live United Day was a huge success. Cass County had 41 projects with 587 volunteers. I personally worked the mobile food pantry where we serve over 120 families. I also helped a group of high school students paint a large room for a local nonprofit organization. I was heartwarming to see the community pull together to help people in need!

Many businesses in the community participate in LIVE UNITED Day. This brings the community together and meets the needs of several agencies and individuals alike. United Way's sponsorship of the Veterans Stand Down on September 21, 2022, helped AMVETS serve many veterans in Cass and surrounding counties. This resource fair offered many vendors that can help our veterans, including job placement agencies, home healthcare, banks, realtors, legal services, mental health, and much more. All veterans were served a free meal and had the opportunity to get a free haircut. Thanks to United Way's generosity, we were able to put this amazing event on for our heroes who selflessly served our country.

I have had the privilege of working with United Way of Cass County (UWCC) in multiple capacities, from employee, to volunteer, and now as a board member. This organization is a leader within our community, always going above and beyond to bring life changing resources to Cass County while also being good stewards of donor dollars. Our community looks to UWCC for solutions, and the staff's forward thinking helps meet that need in a timely, organized fashion.

As a current board member, I have seen first hand the dedication that goes in to every decision, every dollar raised, every program implemented, and every person touched by the work of UWCC.

I first joined the work of UWCC as an intern and have spent the last 11 years as a proud volunteer and donor for this great community leader. Cass County is better because of our local United Way.

The United Way of Cass County is truly community oriented and works hard to serve the people of the community. Volunteers are numerous due to the efforts of the staff and board members.
One program that I am very proud of, is the local Reading Railroad that works with volunteers to read to children in the schools but also give out books to the children. Book boxes have been established around the county where children can open the box and take a book to read. When they are done they are encouraged to return the book and take another. This has been very successful program. The education of our youth is a primary road to their success in the future and the creation of future community leaders. Various fundraisers are done to keep this program functioning.
Recently a Born Learning Trail was established at a local park which give children and parents suggested activities to create family interaction. As they walk the trail there are different signs and paintings to interact as a family.
Live United Day is another major community project that is done each year in the fall. This is where volunteers from all walks of life and local companies give 1 day to work on a project in the county. Some local companies reward their top United Way donors by offering them the chance to volunteer and pay the employee for that day. The projects are submitted to the United Way for review and based on the level of helping the people within the community they could be selected for the Live United Day. The projects have been from simple assistance projects to major construction projects but all have a major effect on the lives of people in need. The majority of the volunteers tell us they feel awesome after the end of the day and return each year to volunteer. Last year there was close to 400 volunteers on various projects.
Recently with the effects of COVID-19 on people in the community the United Way staff and volunteers have been working with local restaurants to provide meals to persons every week. Families are provided a income and family size survey and based on the completed survey they are allowed to receive a number of free meals.
Even though I serve as a board member, I personally volunteer for as many projects as possible because I believe in the efforts of this United Way and the effects on our community. The photo attached is of volunteers working to paint a wall at a local homeless shelter during the 2016 Live United Day. Even though it was very hot that day they felt great for the chance to serve that day and what they accomplished.
This is how you as a person make a community a better place to live and learn to appreciate what you have in life. The United Way of Cass County is a major avenue for volunteers to meet that goal.

The United Way of Cass County inspires people to touch others in so many ways! One experience I will never forget is a day that Food Finders was in town. Learning and seeing first hand how food insecurities are impacting the adults and children of our community was life changing. It was such a blessing to know that our local United Way is working to meet those needs through organizations like Food Finders, the local school back pack programs and the Salvation Army.
Another experience I cherish with the UWCC is the annual Live United Day! It is awesome to see our community come together to help, serve and complete projects for each other! For many years, Fairview Elementary has had the honor to be recipients of different Live United project from extensive landscaping enhancements to receiving interactive painted playground games! This year our students were able to give back by collecting supplies and putting together care packages for others! The students learned so much about giving back to our community and the importance of Living United!

United Way is a great resource to all the residents in Cass County. I first got involved with United Way by attending a Reading Railroad event with my children years ago when then were younger. I was so impressed with what they were doing to promote reading that I became a volunteer. I read to classes at Lewis Cass High School for many years. Years later I became a board member. Little did I know at the time what all United Way did for our community or the organizations it funded. United Way has or currently does fund the following programs: American Red Cross, Boys Scouts, Cass County YMCA, Food Finders Food Bank, Girl Scouts, The Backpack Program, Reading Railroad, Salvation Army, Peak Community Services, Cass County Council on Aging and many more. As a board member I have seen the hard work that goes into raising money to support these valuable programs and the affect it has directly within our community. We are blessed to live in a town that the community care so much to help others.

I started working with our local United Way many years ago on the Community Investment Committee - which really taught me how impactful the UW is in our area. Having a chance to work directly with member agencies and seeing the good they are able to accomplish with the dollars allocated to them and their projects was extremely satisfying. Since then I have also participated as a board member and on the annual campaigns. I think once someone spends the time to understand just what United Way is doing the giving of time and $$ becomes so easy.

I have been involved with United Way for over 30 years as a volunteer, campaign coordinator at my workplace, committee chairperson, Live United day participant, and Board Member. The United Way of Cass County does great things in our community. One of the projects that our United Way supports is the backpack program. When this program first began, I thought to myself, how do these kids not stand out, or feel ashamed when they are carrying home a backpack full of food every Friday which shows the other students that they are less fortunate than some of their peers. Then, during one of our campaign rallies, there was a student and his grandmother who came to speak. The student, who was in 3rd grade said that he loved getting his backpack full of food each week because he and his 3 siblings lived with his grandmother and he felt bad because he knew she was struggling to provide enough for all of them. He said when he received his backpack full of food each Friday, they have some food for the weekend, and he feels like he is helping his family out. There was no shame, as I thought these kids might feel. Instead, he was proud that he was helping his family out. I love this program and all of the other programs and agencies that my contributions and my United Way help support!

United Way of Cass County is a great organization with the mission to help as many persons in the community as possible. While the UW has several programs that serve the Cass County area, I am especially proud of the Reading Railroad where books are given to children and volunteers read to children in the schools. They have also sponsored a "Pins for Kids" bowling day where teams participate to generate funds for the Reading Railroad program and other programs geared towards children.
LIve United Day is another special event that the entire community comes together under the guidance of the UW staff to perform special projects throughout the county to non-profit organizations and individuals in need. Local businesses involved in UW will grant employees time off to volunteer for this activities. People spend the day working on several projects and working as a team. The volunteers often say they feel like they get more back than what they gave for the day.
