Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Animal Protection & Welfare, Animal-Related, Animals

Mission: Roanoke Valley Horse Rescue, RVHR, founded in 2002, evolved out of the need in our community for assistance with horses being found in undesirable situations. RVHR is comprised of a serving Board of Directors who volunteer their time to this effort and are joined by volunteers in our community who may also become members of our organization. RVHR is dedicated to educating the public on these issues and how they can be avoided as well as providing assistance to horse owners in our area that are dealing with a similar situation. Other efforts include providing educational clinics on horsemanship and horse care in general for our horse community. We also provide a refuge at our facility for horses that are in need due to starvation or neglect as well as helping these horses find new loving and suitable homes where they shall be watched over by RVHR for the rest of their lives.

Got my horse Annie from RVHR last year and is clear that the owner has her heart in it. I really appreciated the time they take making sure every adoption is a good match before they let you take the animal home. You've got to come to the rescue several different days to spend time with your chosen horse, working with them and getting extra training from the owner before you can officially adopt.

RVHR is my happy place to volunteer! I grew up with horses and had to put my horse down 20 years ago, then life, family, and work prevented me from getting another horse. When I retired, I was looking for a place to volunteer and found out about RVHR! We have anywhere from 20-40 horses, pigs, cows, goats, chickens, etc at any given time! We have rescued so many and work with them and feed them so they can feel like they are worthwhile again! It never ceases to amaze me at how people can mistreat animals! I love volunteering there each week and I am getting ready to start my 3rd year!

I have lived in Roanoke for over 35 years and did not know about this place until I saw where Pat broke her ankle late in 2022, so I volunteered to help and have been doing so weekly since then! I grew up riding and showing horses and did so until about 20 years ago, so needless to say, I am getting my horse fix in weekly now!!!! In addition to seeing other critters that need our help! I love this horse rescue and what they are doing and I will continue to help as long as I am able!!!!

I have been a donor to Roanoke Valley Horse Rescue for a few years now. This organization does so much with love and dedication for these magnificent creatures. They are so caring and knowledgeable when it comes to the health and well-being of the horses. Have watched them bring a horse back from the brink of death. They never gave up and did everything possible to save her. She is now a beautiful healthy horse waiting to be adopted. The owner and volunteers are the best!!

We found our beloved horse here. When she arrived there she looked so sad, but by the time we met her and fell in love she was a happy sassy girl. They brought her back from starvation, and we are blessed to have added her to our family. They do wonderful things for horses who really just need saving. And they are careful to find each horse a new home that will know how to care for the animals, and have the set up for their new family member. Here she is (left) with our other mare who is now her best friend.

As a sponsor and volunteer with Pat Muncy and the Roanoke Valley Horse Rescue for years, I continue to be impressed with the unselfish dedication and uncompromising care which Pat, her family and the volunteers who help out on a daily basis devote to the animals who are sheltered at the RVHR. It is thoroughly gratifying to know that these (often) abused, neglected and elderly horses finally ended up in a facility which is so well-suited to their needs, with capable and competent attentiveness in all facets of equine care. Pat and the RVHR merit praise for the incessant hard work in all kinds of weather conditions and adversities. They are a classic example of the meld of inspiration and perspiration.

I am so proud to know of and support this extraordinary Rescue. I first heard of RVHR many years ago when I helped support a pony named Hash Brown who was rescued from a slaughter transport by a friend of a friend. Hash Brown's rescuer brought RVHR to my attention and my support began then and has continued all these years. I have never been sorry or disappointed. They are truly engaged in a transformative labor of love for horses (and not a few other animals that come incidentally to their attention.) I can tell you that not a single donation, no matter how large or little, is taken for granted or wasted. They make every penny squeak!

I am a former volunteer and supporter of RVHR since 2014. I have personally witnessed the high level of care and commitment to the horses they rescue and rehabilitate. The owner is totally committed to the goals of excellent care and training of the animals, and to placement in their forever homes, if possible. Nevertheless, if a horse is less likely for placement, it is well treated and loved. I can't say enough about the tireless efforts Pat and Jason put forth in this enterprise. This includes special care and feeding, medicine, ferrier, veterinarian, proper paddock placement, rotation, and more.

I have been donating to RVHR for several years. I have volunteered my time at the farm to see first hand how they care for the horses. They have a first class barn and farm to house the horses and need continued support from people like me to maintain and expand the facility. The staff that gave me a tour of the facility, trained me and assigned my volunteer tasks for the day, were knowledgeable, friendly and caring to me, the other volunteers and to the horses. The lives of unwanted and abused horses depend on the kind staff at RVHR.

I have been working with the Rescue for over 5 years now. I work with them to help provide a safe secure boarding facility, approved by the rescue, for individuals that would be become a caregiver but do not own property.

Over the course of this time I watch the Rescue day in and day out, provide training to the horses, educate volunteers, provide community awareness, and WORK HARD every day to give these animals a safe place till placement is found.

I wish I could do more, but have a herd of my own, I understand the daily chores that are there regardless of how you feel, what the weather is like, or what plans you may have to change for that last minute equine emergency. This role is not for the tender hearted, its not for those that are fair weather people.

Providing for another living creature is tough, when they cannot speak for themselves. Thank you RVHR for being the voice of every equine and other farm animal on you property.

Keep up the good work.

My volunteer time with RVHR began in 2010 after some unexpected, life altering surgery. I didn't know if I could be of any real help because even though I'd loved horses since I was a girl, my body felt old and decrepit. But I knew I wanted to keep my promise to Pat's son, Ray, to just come lend his mom a hand for a couple hours in return for a favor he'd done for me a year or two before. That couple hours turned into almost five years. Pat Muncy is to be tremendously admired and respected for not only the hard work she does, but for the why of it. Who in their right mind would make the 24/7 sacrifices she makes to give these horses a second chance? Pat, that's who. Funny, the whole time I thought I was really helping the horses I found out I was the one being helped to get past being old and decrepit. We moved away in 2015 to be closer to the kids and grandkids. Another rescue nearest to our new place was still too far away, but in early 2016 I found an equine based therapeutic riding program closer by and started volunteering there. I firmly believe that without my time at RVHR I would be back in the rut of believing "I can't." The work is different, but the knowledge gained under Pat's direction during my time at RVHR is of lifelong value, and vitally helpful every time I set foot in the barn. Remember, if the horses can, so can you. Thank you to Pat, Jason, their family and the Volunteers for all you do for the horses. Long live RVHR.

My husband and I have volunteered once a week at RVHR since August 2010. One of our best experiences, so far, was the day we watched a highly difficult and very frightened horse become a gentle and trusting friend all because of Pat's training. That same day she had us in the ring with this horse going through the same techniques she had used. With her careful, yet loving instruction we had this same horse nuzzling our palms and putting his head down (a sign of being at complete ease), as we stood before him. We will never, ever forget it. We also appreciate how Pat is first and foremost big on safety for both the volunteers and the horses, and that she is always teaching us new things about the care and enjoyment of these beautiful animals. We have witnessed Pat's round the clock work under difficult financial circumstances to ensure the horses are always properly fed, excercised, groomed, protected in harsh weather, medically attended, and last but not least, socialized and trained properly before being adopted. Also, having assisted Pat with clerical duties and being aware of the administrative demands upon her, we see there is so much to do in addition to caring for the horses. We are honored to be a part of Pat Muncy and RVHR's tireless dedication to the animal welfare.

Photographing the rescue horses for RVHR was such a pleasure for me and I’m looking forward to providing this service for the rescue in the future. During the day I spent photographing at the rescue I had the opportunity to meet all of the residents and learn how each individual has a diet specific to their needs. I was so impressed with how knowledgeable and caring the barn manager is, all of the horses greeted her with enthusiasm and she seemed to have a special bond with each of them.

Brienna Shapiro is my niece's daughter, my great-niece. She has worked so hard at RVHR helping these horses in need and taking care of the barn. Being around the horses has changed Brie. She's matured, she's confident, capable, clam and happy. The horses saved her in return. Brienna is also putting in a lot of effort to raise funds for these neglected horses. Non profits of any kind do such amazing work, but everyone knows they rely of donations. In the past 21 months I've given over 500 hours of volunteer service at Roanoke Valley Horse Rescue. As with many, I'd always thought about volunteering somewhere. So, I decided.....to go to a place I could be around horses. I'd always loved their beauty but had no opportunity to be with or around them. Of course, I went thinking I was doing a service.

What I found was that it was I who was being served, taught, and guided by the horses at RVHR. In their horse way they let me know I was not allowing myself to connect to much on an emotional level and that, if I wanted to be with them, I'd have to figure that out.

And I stayed....and worked on it, with the horses reminding me when I was anxious, nervous, or just too pushy for them (and I didn't even know I was feeling those things!).

I've been gifted with many many lessons that I couldn't have heard from a human voice. And, I'll continue to give back to this wonderful place these abused and neglected horses have to call home!

I have only been here twice and both times I had met with Brienna. I can tell the people put their heart into each and every animal, thrusting each horses’ good attributes into the spotlight. I had the pleasure of meeting a very beautiful mare, and Brienna was kind in showing me how they do their training. Although the match wasn’t quite what I was looking for, I do look forward to the prospect of adopting in the future with them. If I were closer, I would love to volunteer, but unfortunately I’m too far of a drive away. I hope to steer others in the direction of this rescue because I really believe they want what’s best for each animal, and they aren’t in any rush to rehome them if it isn’t the right fit.

This organization does such great work and helps so many horses (and other animals!). Their dedication to the well-being of the animals in their care is evident in everything they do. The before/after stories of horses they've rescued are heartbreaking and heartwarming all at once. And they don't just "rescue" them and toss them in a field - each animal is worked with on a regular basis to ensure they are desensitized, trained under saddle (if appropriate) and fully prepared to go to a new home suitable to their individual needs. Anyone who is looking for an equine companion to ride, show, spoil, or just enjoy having as a companion should consider a rescue before purchasing - the horses at Roanoke Valley Horse Rescue would love a forever home and adopters get the benefit of knowing the horse 's personality, suitability and that they are vetted. Highly recommend!

I volunteered at the rescue for a summer, and fell in love with every horse there, and person who worked alongside to help give these animals the second chance they deserve. The rescue is truly unselfish as everyone there gives their all to help the horses who desperately need the help. So many of these beautiful animals deserve so much more than the life they are given and the rescue helps them achieve the life they deserve, tending to and caring for the needs of every animal there. It was a surreal realization to be surrounding by so many of those in need and to be just a small part of changing their lives for the better.

I have given countless hours in service to abused and neglected horses t the Roanoke Valley Horse rescue. I started in the cold of January. Years of desire to give volunteer service finally culminated into action and I made a decision that the only person standing in the way of giving my time, energy, and talents was me. In trudging through ice and snow, mucking many a stall, hauling many 50 pound bags of feed, and anything else that has been needed, 3 years into my horse learning, I met Scarlet. I love all of our rescues, but this lady touched me in a very unique and different way. And, she has inspired me to continue my learning and work despite many obstacles and challenges.

I have and do give because it is central to my belief in others- not only other people, but other living beings.

Scarlet came to RVHR having been so abused that the mere thought of human touch sent her into pure panic. And a 1000 pound animal in panic is no laughing matter. It is dangerous. Not because the animal is intending to be dangerous, but because the fear is overpowering. The desire to flee is so strong that running over anything or anyone is not out of the question.

Seeing such terror in an animal this large was life changing for me. And, after long, long self talk, I decided that I would do all I could to be part of helping Scarlet understand that the human hand did not have to be what it had been in her past. And, remember, I am a fully inexperienced horse person. I am a human services professional, and do know something about trauma in people. This helped me bridge the gap.

Horse rescue is challenging work. It is physically demanding, Finances are a constant challenge. The rewards- no words for it. Horses are perfect assistants to human change. I went to serve as a volunteer thinking I was going purely for giving- never did I imagine after 20 years as a career public servant, would I be given something in return. That is exactly, however, what has happened. It is not just Scarlet, it is the many horses that I interact with that are giving me some much needed self reflection and support.

At the same time, Miss Scarlet is the one that sealed the deal on where my volunteer work would be!

I give almost every day to the effort to provide safety, care, and re-homing services to horses their way to the Roanoke Valley Horse rescue. And I'm doing that throughout the holiday season by supporting newsletter preparation, feeding horses, fundraising events, mucking stalls.........and just about anything in between!

The photos of Scarlet represent what RVHR does. Her intake picture in November 2015 and her physical appearance in November 2016! Not only that, a select few at RVHR are privileged to be able to say they can approach, halter, lead, touch, and ask Scarlet to follow some simple instructions.....and I happen to be one of the select few!

I have been a volunteer at the Rescue for about a year. I started at the RVHR thinking I would be providing extra muscle to complete specific chores to make the lives of these magnificent animals a little bit better. Little did I know that they would be giving so much more back to me. All the animals at the rescue have a story of neglect and/or abuse. Staff and volunteers work tirelessly with the horses to let them know that not all experiences with humans are bad and things can be much better. Through my months there I have seen emaciated horses die after hours and hours of staff and volunteer support for a better outcome. I have seen emaciated horses thrive with the help, knowledge and hard work of everyone at the rescue that give of their time. Without the help of this facility and the dedication of those who work there the outcome for all the horses in their care would have been much different. I am grateful to have the opportunity to provide my time to this agency. learn more about the care of the animals, and learn form the animals

In the depressed economy currently affecting our nation, it is heroic efforts from organizations like Roanoke Valley Horse Rescue that provide hope for horses whose owners no longer can, or worse, no longer choose to, care for them. It is a honor and privilege to donate to these altruistic efforts, and sponsor six of Roanoke Valley Horse Rescue's rescued horses. If you cannot adopt or provide a foster home for one or more of these noble horses who so want and deserve a second change for a forever home, please consider sponsoring one or more horses. Roanoke Valley Horse Rescue is staffed with people who genuinely care for each horse, and ensure that donations are used for animal care, not indirect administrative costs. I have a Mustang whose training has been a challenge. I reached out to Pat and RVHR, from whom I learned about an RVHR co-worker, Diane, who does Reiki. Diane's Reiki therapy has greatly assisted us to find a way to reach this very special horse, ease his issues, and enable him to willing move ahead with trust and training. This is just another example of the ways that Pat, Diane, and all of the special people at RVHR make such meaningful contributions to horses in need. Especially in our nation's troubled economic times, where families are forced to just give up their horse(s), or horses are neglected or abandoned in vacant fields or at truck stops, it is a blessing that caring organizations like RVHR exist to protect and care for the innocent victims. I first discovered RVHR last January. I was surfing online looking for volunteer opportunities in Virginia. RVHR was listed and after reading about the organization, I decided I wanted to sponsor a horse there.
I make a monthly contribution which helps cover the care of a horse.
I am on my second horse now as a sponsor. I feel that I am making a difference in the life of a horse that was neglected. Some of the horses' stories are really horrific, and as an animal lover, I want to do something to help these beautiful animals. I had the opportunity to visit RVHR and meet the horse I presently sponsor,Olivia, a neglected Arabian mare. Some of the horses that come to RVHR have some issues involving human contact. These horses are worked with individually by the staff and the many volunteers who come to groom or just give "some loving on" the horses. These horses eventually become attentive when humans come around.
RVHR does not have fancy horse barns, but every attempt is made so that all the horses there have adequate shelter, nutritious feed
customized for their individual needs, quality hay and good pastures. I was quite impressed with the volunteers and staff that faithfully come and give these horse a good quality life.

I work with Vicki - who volunteers faithfully at the RVHR. She has relayed her experience with others at work and encourages donations (of all sorts). I donated to the RVHR based on what I saw on their website and the personal stories Vicki has shared. These folks are very dedicated to taking care of the animals and not just the physical needs of Food, water and shelter but it is also their mission to take volunteers and have them work with a horse one on one - to develop a sense of trust between man and horse so that perhaps when the time comes they will be adoptable and can bring joy to a family of their own. I have seen local news broadcasts about the work and willingness to take in animals who have suffered terrible neglect and in some cases abuse even when funds were low - they work hard to raise awareness and hopefully funds in the midst of tireless hours of plain physical labor. Very kind hearted folks here.

I can only say SUPERB things about RVHR and the everyday work Pat and Jason do for the horses and other animals that are cared for. Their time and money is put into making sure a healthy and caring environment is there for all until some are able to find a new family that can give them the love they deserve!!

I have been to RVHR several times now as a volunteer. As a Virginia Tech student I have struggled over the decision of what I'd like my career to be. In the process of figuring out what exactly I'd like to do with horses for the rest of my life I've been inspired by RVHR. Pat and her family give up so much to help so many of our beloved equine friends. I can only hope to do something as great as they do to help the equine community. They give these horses the best they can offer, in addition to as much love as any horse could get, while they wait to find their new, hopefully permanent family. In addition to benefiting horses, they also offer many students in the area with opportunities to grow in their equine education. I enjoy myself each time I go out there and learn several new things each time I work at RVHR. This program gives the utmost service to both neglected horses that no one else could take responsibility for, and a widespread community. They are well-deserving of any support they can receive.

My name is Alyson,
I first visited the Roanoke Valley Horse Rescue and met Patricia Muncy in the year of 2005. One of my friends did an after school program for troubled teens and being a great horse lover, and having just recently lost my horse to old age (34 yrs. old). I met my friend and her teen out at horse rescue to share the horsey love.
The first impression that I had was that there was a lot of love going around the whole farm. Patricia was actually building on a large covered run-in area onto an existing shelter by herself.
I immediately thought to myself, "what a tough lady". She is non-stop... It's just amazing how much love and care is given at RVHR. Everyone there comes first.
The day I first went to meet my friend, the teen that she took, what a difference it had made in her life. This teen was able to break away from her troubles to cross to another side and experience on hand one of her greatest loves, horses. I felt that it gave her a place of importance and uniqueness, and hope for dreams in the future.
The next time that I visited RVHR was in May of 2010. After losing my horse that had practically raised me. I had him in my life for 27 yrs. I hoped that one day I would find another horse son/friend, but didn't quite no when. I dreamt often whom I hoped that I would find one day or should say, "find me".
One day, a friend handed me an article in the paper that two horses were in need of a home and that they thought it was time for me to bring a horse back into my life. I had recently just purchased a beatiful farm and I thought, "maybe?" So I went and checked it out. The horse I was interested in, as soon as I pulled up at RVHR, I recognized my interest and said his name. He immediately ran up to the fence line and we had eachother's full attention. I really fell inlove instantly. I remember, Patricia saying something like, "Oh Yeah, he's definitely going home with you, your mom". I thought, "we need to get to know eachother first and then we'll see". Well, Patricia was right off the bat, what an insight! I actually spent about a month going to RVHR as often as I could, about 2 times a week to visit my guy and get a feel for him, before making the big final decision.
Patricia taught me so much in that amount of time. She is truly a Horse Whisperer/Horse Angel. Each horse at the rescue is given such special attention. Each personality was known, each language, need... It was great, Patricia coached me on all the important things I needed to know and taught me a lot of great things, and allowed me to really get to know my guy. I finally decided, I couldn't live without him and took him home with me. At the time, I had just recently purchased a farm by myself and was wondering where my journey in life was taking me, and WOW!!! what a strength I received in my mind and my heart after bringing my horse home. I immediatley started to feel a wonderful balance in my life again. It's crazy, I sometimes look back and think, "Wow, I never rode him with a saddle on before bringing him home, I only put it on him to see how he would react at RVHR". I didn't even know how perfect he would be until I brought him home. Also, the fact too, that he was almost exactly what I had been dreaming about for years before meeting him. The Universe really does provide. All these things, each time we would go on rides together would show themselves. Like, he loves walking through creeks and stopping to sip, and paw. He loves going on trails and what a talker he is. Every morning he is waiting for me at the gate and winnies, and nickers to me. That's all I need to start my day. One of my friends moved her horse out to my place, a mare. The two are in love and my friend and I go on riding adventures a couple times a week. It's one of the things we look forward to the most during a crazy work week. It keeps us so balanced and revives us. At the end of my day, going out to the barn and taking care of the horses is so wonderful.
There is such a need for what Patricia Muncy and RVHR provide. Each horse that ends up there is a life, has a soul, and needs love. You never know, one day they could/will enrich a persons life fulfilled with unending well being...

I often wonder, when giving to any charity, just how much of my gift will actually reach its intended destination. When I give to the Roanoke Valley Horse Rescue I know that every cent of every dollar is being spent on the horses. The members and volunteers of this organization show their dedication in the care they take of the horses, the informational website they maintain and the MANY fundraising events they sponsor throught the year. I am a horse owner myself and when I see news stories of neglect and abuse, I am so glad that the Roanoke Valley Horse Rescue exists. I donate whenever I can and only wish I could give more to this outstanding group of people.

Even though I am not a volunteer anymore, I loved my time at RVHR. I grew up with horses and I missed them so much that I sought out RVHR and fell in love with it the first time I worked there. Pat is amazing as is her husband and all the other people who work to make RVHR a great place for horses. My favourite memory is of a horse named Dave that Pat had brought to the farm. He was very neglected and I had the task of brushing him. I cried when I started and those of you who have animals know that they know when you are upset. Dave would turn his head towards me as I brushed him sensing that I was upset and would nuzzle me. He was just so happy to have someone to take care of him and love him. Most animals are so forgiving and I find that horses are more so. It made my day when he did that.
Anyway, RVHR and Pat deserve all the help in the world they can get. Money, supplies, help. All of it is needed at RVHR and my hope is that one day I can return to this haven for one of my favourite animals. My hope is that they get all the help needed to keep helping these majestic creatures.

I think what the RVHR is doing for the HORSES of this region is great. The horses need a safe haven and Patricia Muncy provides that for them. Between Patricia and the Volenteers, the horses are in good hands. I know some of those horses think when they get to the RVHR, that they have died and going to heaven because of the attention they get and the care.

We called and were invited out to see for ourselfs first hand what the RVHR was all about. While being there I fell in love w Gentle Ben. Ben was a Belgian draft horse 22yrs of age. He was the love of my life. Pat worked with me on how to ride such a large gentle animal. We are horse owners just not of that size. They took the time to show me how to handle him, ride him. I was able to visit anytime for however long I wanted to while our adoption went through. The rescue is a WONDERFUL place and I thank God everyday for allowing them to alllow me the chance with my gentle giant. We are now looking to adopt a mini...hoping that goes well also. Roanoke Valley Horse Rescue works hard to care of animals that have been forgotten or mistreated. I have seen the level of care that is given to each animal. This staff works as if they are getting paid thousands of dollars and they work for nothing! Many times they invest their own interests just to make sure the level of care these animals receive is the best available. No one could deserve this grant anymore than this organization.
I have seen the sweat and muscle work to provide food for these animals, I have seen the tears as the ones that do not make it get held in the arms of someone that cares as they leave this world.
Their is room for growth of this organization and they need this help immediatly if they are going to continue to carry out this very important mission.

The relationship my husband and I have with RVHR is many tiered. We have fostered horses, adopted one, donate our hayfields, and have found a true friend in Patricia Muncy. Patty is an inspiration to me, and I would say I don't know how she manages to do what she does - but I can't because I see how for myself. She tirelessly and devotedly opens the facility's gates and her arms to horses in need. In need of nourishment, shelter, medical attention, training, love, understanding, and end of life care. The whole idea is to find a real home for the horses that are healthy enough to leave RVHR, and provide a respite for those who are not. This all takes money. And when there isn't enough to go around, Patty digs in deeper, physically doing the work a vet, farrier or farmhand would do. It is extremely hot and dusty out in a hayfield on a tractor, cutting, raking, baling, loading. The number of bales, round and square that Patty personally put away for the horses at RVHR is staggering. I thank God every day for Patty and the other angels of mercy that help her administer to creatures great and small.

RVHR has one of the most professional web pages of any rescue operation I have been involved in. I am an artist and have done many paitnings for fund raisers for dogs and cats in places where I have lived and now want to help out the horses at RVHR.

The folks involved are professional, kind, open, creative, wonderful and giving and they do give their best to the horses they rescue. In fact, the place is a godsend for horses that need gentle, loving and good homes.

Their updates are the best - so full of important information that informs, instructs, explains and has the optimism required to keep an operation like this running... the updates attract benefactors. This is because of the professional and knowledgeable way they share what we, the public, need to know.

At times like these, people are reticent to give out more money because they don't have as much; however, RVSR is able to show where the money is going, you get to meet the horses and you see how much good is being done for this small operation.

There is definately a need for RVSR and I hope they get all the grants and money they need to help these wonderful, worthy horses.

Sometimes you can tell that a person is passionate about their work by their words. More often you can prove their passion by their actions! The Roanoke Valley Horse Rescue, Inc. and Patricia Muncy are sincere about taking care of horses who need intervention in order to live. "Rescue" is in their organizations name, and that is what they do. Without their work, these animals would die a slow, painful death.
In good economic times, neglect happens. In tough economic times, neglect happens on a much larger scale. I am thankful for the Roanoke Valley Horse Rescue because I found my second equine love there! Shawnee, now a 4-year-old Thoroughbred, was one of the horses that RVHR took in from the Loudon County farm seizure in 2008. I first met her in April 2008 when I visited RVHR as a potential adopter. At first, I thought that I wouldn't want such a young horse. However, Pat, the head of RVHR, helped me to realize that a young horse like Shawnee might be better than an older horse who had been abused or had had other negative encounters with humans in the past. Because of this, Shawnee has been much easier to train; in fact, most of the time, she follows me around like a big puppy dog!
Through the process of adopting Shawnee, the rescue was very helpful and understanding; I was not required to have an unreasonable number of sessions with Shawnee before adopting her or go through any other unneccesary procedures. I believe that RVHR is very fair in their adoption policies, which protect the adopted horses but are not extensive enough to be a burden to the adopter. I highly recommend this rescue due to the staff's experience, expertise, sincerity, and most importantly, the love for the animals in their care.

When I look at organizations to donate to, I ask several questions. First, does the money go support the work of the organization, or to support the leadership of the organization. Clearly, the Roanoke Valley Horse Rescue supports the community that it serves and not the individuals that run the Rescue. In fact, I am convinced that any donation to RVHR only serves to make Pat work harder to see that the donation does as much good as possible.

Second, I ask if the organization serves a small community, or a large one. RVHR rescues and places horses throughout the country, and not just the Roanoke Valley in Virginia.

Finally, I ask if my donation will make a difference. After viewing the Rescue, seeing the horses, and talking to Pat, Jason, and Susan, I know any donation will be put to good use. So will your's, if you choose to help.

Somehow they find a way to continue to help the helpless - innocent horses who through human failure or downright neglect. Hats off to them!

I have visited several horse rescue facilities in Virginia over the past few years. I was looking for a trained horse to adopt. In March of 2009, I visited another horse rescue facility closer to my home (not RVHR). I was shown an older horse that was trained and appeared to have no issues other than he needed a loving home. I visited this facility for 4 weeks, waiting for his evaluation and approval to adopt him. As I waited and spoke to the Trainer, he commented that he felt this horse was too much for me. I did not see any information that indicated that, I needed to prove my horsemanship in order to adopt a horse. I met and qualified for the criteria listed on their brochure. After 4 weeks my money and I walked away, saddened, and still haunted by what may have happened to this horse
As I went through this process, RVHR stood out above them all. I have never been to RVHR, but I can tell you that they responded to every call and every email I made. Their website is updated constantly and new information on fundraising and help is posted daily. They care about the task at hand; they care about everyone who inquires about the horses and those who volunteer there. This is a professional organization that works for the benefit of the horses and not themselves. I will continue to raise funds and send money to RVHR, because my money is being invested in bettering the lives of horses in their care.

My wife and I retired 6 years ago and then bought our first horses. We could not belive what a beautiful and wonderful spirit these animals possess. We came to love them and could not imagine life without them. We only have one rescue center to take all the abused and neglected horses in our area. We have donated feed, hay and money. Every time we have visited RVHR we have been welcomed and treated warmly. Patrica Muncy always takes us on a tour and we get to hear the stories about the different horses. We always come away feeling a bit sad for the horses but glad there is someone like Patrica Muncy to be there for the horses. She has dedicated her life to these great animals and that is something very special.

I have been a horse owner since I was nine years old. I have a great deal of respect and love for such a magnificant animal. I am now 49 years old and my love for horses has only grown. I enjoy working with younger people who are interested in horses. Two years ago I had the pleasure of going to the RVHR with a gentleman who rescued a wonderful horse for his granddaughter. As a horse owner I am glad to see that RVHR does background checks to make sure their horses go to good homes, homes that will be able to take care of them the way they need to be cared for. I see that horse everyday, as she is in the field with my horse. I love that a young girl, the granddaughter, is learning to respect and enjoy this horse. I live in the city and it amazes me that a lot of people have never even touched a real horse. The RVHR is doing a wonderful job caring for, placing, and rehabilitating the horses in their care. The people at RVHR work hard to ensure the surrounding area's animals are going to be looked after and the cruelty will stop from owners that do not deserve to have such wonder animals. There is a demand for this organization and the only way to keep this organization up and running is from caring people and grants that will help with costs. I see the results of this caring everyday in a horse named Dallas. I hope that many others will see the greatness of this organization as I do.

This organization has save the lives of many horses that would probably have othewise starved to death or met some kind of unfortunate death. They truly love horses and do the best they can to help them. They certainly have a dedicated team with a mission to rescue and bring back to health these pretty much helpless animals.

I have served as a volunteer, donor, and now care giver since 2008. I absolutely love this organization and encourage support for it in any way I can. I retired from the military and moved to the Roanoke area, I found RVHR after searching for a way to give some of my time and support in my new community. The work being done there is inspiring, educational, and necessary for the welfare of horses who otherwise would not be saved, rehabilitated and find new homes. I sponsored a young horse (still do) who has the chance at a wonderful life because she received the care she needed when she came to RVHR. I also adopted an old horse that was no longer wanted in his former family and he has given me and his other care takers where I board him so much joy. If it were not for RVHR, we would not have found eachother. I volunteered for the first two years until I became a care taker and I learned so much about caring for horses, some training and handling techniques. RVHR director, Pat Muncy is incredible and has taken on not only the care and welfare of the horses in need, but also helping people learn about proper care and love for animals. I salute her and the rest of the folks at RVHR.

The only thing that I can say to strengthen the organization is to ensure enough money comes in to keep RVHR going and perhaps have more salary staff to operate.

Just search the internet and you will see the number of horses that are shipped off to be slaughtered on a daily basis. Some of the horses have been obtained through deception and others are just in the wrong place at the wrong time. We ALL need a soft place to land and Roanoke Valley Horse Rescue does just that with the horses they take in. It takes time and money to care for these horses not to mention great dedication. Horses, in fact most large animals, have few recourses and often end up in bad situations, especially in times of economic downturns. The work that the RVHR does for these animals is invaluable, literally and figuratively. Being in horse rescue myself, i know that many horses who come to rescues have been abused, neglected or mistreated in some way and often need medical care and/or special diets, medications etc. Caring for aging, sick or injured equines is expensive...and feed/hay costs have also risen by at least 50% in recent years. Horse rescue operations do important work, please help support them.

I contacted Pat at RVHR and she did not hesitate to take this poor girl to her rescue and provide whatever she needed to give her a much better life in her golden years. I became a donor several years ago after watching a news story of abused horses that were seized in Northern Virginia. One of the horses was a decendent of Seattle Slew. I grew up loving to watch Secretariat, Seattle Slew and Affirmed. RVHR took in part of these abused horses and nursed them back to health. They stretch every dollar and I am amazed at all they do for these horses. They sacrifice their time, money and resources to make sure these horses receive the love and care that they need. They are respected in the community for all the work they do to provide food, a home and medical attention for all the horses in their care.

Her animals are so well cared for. I have had two horses that I have donated for. She works with me to pick the one horse that needs my help. She sends me pictures of them and keeps me abreast of their daily lives. How she takes care of so many horses is beyond me. She surely is a blessing to the Roanoke Valley.

The passion, dedication and love that Patty, Jason and the volunteers at RVHR have for horses and their quality of life is undeniable, if only you pay them a visit. IT IS TRULY AMAZING!
I have been there several times, and each time it blows my mind. I met Patty when she was a volunteer at another rescue, that wasn't enough it was in her blood, now she manages her own rescue. There are never enough rescues, and always a need for placing ONE MORE horse.
A few years ago Patty was battling cancer, their commitment never wavered. Although very sick, once I paid a visit and found Patty, sporting her bandanna and no hair, out feeding and watering horses. In my heart they are HEROS.
RVHR was there for us and took in and cared for our elderly horse. I had a new job and I didn't have the time or funds to properly feed and care for my high maintenance elderly horse. He had gotten dangerously thin.
RVHR took him in, fattened him up and he looked amazing, he honestly looked 20 years younger.
I know that he spent his last couple years happy and as healthy as he could be, with tons of love and attention... He deserved it, he was a beautiful soul, and I loved him.
Patties dedication goes further than just feeding and watering horses but educating young horse owners. When my children were younger and involved in a 4-H horse and pony club Patty taught an important lesson to the children. It sticks in my mind, will never forget it. "How to properly groom your male horse, and ALL his MALE PARTS, INSIDE AND OUT." She gave a demo on how make him "drop" and how to properly wash the Sheath. She taught them of the hazards of not cleaning this area. I myself, had never seen this done and had no clue. It was not very glamorous to say the least.
The knowledge shared there is invaluable.
The economy has hit everyone so hard. There are so many horses needing to be placed, their mission has intensified. The needs are great.
I believe that there is a special place in heaven for people so giving of themselves, Patty and Jason and the loyal volunteers at RVHR. I wish them only the best.

RVHR provides an invaluable service. With economic times being what they have been, there are caring horse owners who cannot afford to keep and care for their horses. Combine that with the normal number of uncaring owners that abuse or negelect their horses, and the burden to provide a safe haven is enormous. And RVHR does it on small donations and volunteers. The Muncys have the support of the entire equine community in this area of Virginia. RVHR does a wonderful job creating a refuge for horses, rehabilitating them, and ultimately placing them in good homes, an ensuring them a safe, healthy and happy home.

At that time, the facilities were sparse at best but I could tell there was a genuine love and concern for the animals. I felt humbled by their extradinary energy and focus on the animals' well being. Most recently, I've seen how they have, with the help of thier supporters been able to add more shelters, fences and medical provisions. They had the courage and the love to sacrafice for the wonderful animals that others discarded and give up because they can no longer care for them. More work is needed and I believe this program is built on and cared for with honest, integrity and genuine love for God's creatures. Please give~

As a lifelong animal lover and horse enthusiast, I am always on the lookout for folks who really, really care about animal welfare. Well, Pat and her crew are those folks. Particularly in the last few years, as the economy has slowed, finding the funds to care for animals, especially horses, has become harder and harder. Pat and her family have gone into their own pockets to cover the huge costs and expenses of the horses in their care. Pat is wonderfully frank and warm in conversation about the animals in her care, and it is clear she has a seemingly limitless love and passion for making sure that every one of the horses that reaches her rescue has the best chance at the best life it can have. I always feel great about donating to the rescue because I know that the money goes directly to caring for horses that really need and recieve the best care available to them. I first learned about RVHR from a nurse I work with. She has a strong love for horses and has one of her own. I have no working knowledge of horses so I asked my nurse friend (Becky) a lot of questions. After going to RVHR website and reading Blairs story, my heart just ached (how could someone be so careless?) and I felt the need to help the people helping the horses. In my dealings with RVHR they have always been very kind and patient with me, answering questions as necessary. I know the people at RVHR are a very hard working, loyal to their mission group of folks. I belive any money I give to them or supplies I buy for them, is going directly to the care of the animals in their trust, I would give them the highest nonprofit rating available.

As someone who has been around horses my whole life where they are treated as treasured members of our family, it is incomprehensible and heartbreaking to see the condition that some horses get to from mistreatment, neglect and/or abuse. We are so fortunate to have an organization like RVHR that can help save these magnificent creatures and give them the love and care they deserve. I’ve visited RVHR a few times and truly appreciate all they do for these animals in need. Without RVHR, most of these horses would have no hope. I learned of Roanoke Valley Horse Rescue about 7 or 8 years ago. My first visit was shocking in two ways. First, the animals: the condition of the horses made it obvious they were receiving the best of care. Before and after pictures of horses placed there spoke volumes! The horses were receiving the best that Pat Muncy and her assistants had to offer, not the least of which was a great deal of knowledge and experience. The second thing that got my attention was how much was being done with so little. They save, heal, tame and rehabilitate equines and manage to do so on donations. Most of their rescued equines have medical problems, some very severe. Pat and her team are brave enough to take on the worst of cases with accompanying expenses, and trust the dollars will be there to pay for it. Their financial and physical struggles are ongoing, but, lucky for the horses, they never give up.

As a volunteer at RVHR I have been amazed by the love, skill, dedication, and hard work Pat puts forth each and every day to improve the lives of the horses in her care. This is the only horse rescue in our area and it provides a much needed service. The economy has taken a toll on so many lives, including the lives of horses that people can no longer afford to care for. Without RVHR many more horses would die slow and painful deaths due to starvation and neglect. Each horse that comes into the rescue is evaluated, brought back to health and loved and cared for. But, the good of this organization does not stop there. Pat works hard to place these horses in new homes and in so doing, improves the lives of the horses as well as the people who adopt them. I have adopted several horses from the rescue and each one has enriched my life. In turn, I have shared these horses with special needs individuals who find great joy in spending an afternoon brushing a kind old horse who just wants to be loved. It is a win win situation all the way around! Most people have no idea how much work horses are and how expensive it is to care for them. Pat is a master at everything from training to hoof trims, stall mucking to hay cutting, all for the horses that others have forgotten. Thank you Pat for all your hard work and sacrifice.

I first met Pat when she needed hay for the horses and we had no one to cut our hay. I told her that she was welcome to it and asked her who would be cutting it and she said, "That would be me." I just assumed she had help (as in men with strong backs) to help her and other than one other person it was just her. We had a very wet summer that year and our property has to be dry to cut it. Between the rain and Pat trying to keep their old and decrepit machinery working she was never able to cut it. I thought then how nice it would be if they had to funds to buy decent equipment so at least they could focus on actually cutting instead of spending so much time repairing. It became very obvious after a few phone calls trying to coordinate with Pat the RVHR is her life! No matter what time I called she was always doing something for the horses. She is a tough lady that gives 110% to these beautiful animals that others have thrown away. With so many irresponsible horse owners out there it is refreshing to see a place where the horses are so well taken care of. It would be really nice if taking care of the horses was the only thing to worry about, not worrying all the time about having the funds to do it!

I started volunteering for Roanoke Valley Horse Rescue in the fall of 2010. I remember my first day with Susan, Pat's wonderful and hardworking assistant, we had fun together feeding the horses with bales of hay(I brought apples and carrots the first day without asking OPPS! Susan allowed me to give it to the horses). I came to RVHR to bring lots of unconditional love, kindness, and appreciation to these wise horses. I came to bring healing but in return I received healing from the burros, miniature horse/mini-mule, Daisy, thouroughbred, Selene, arabian/Qtr horse, Fury, my cuddle bug arabian, Happy Tooter, saddlebred, and Hope, beautiful Arabian and Noami, Qtr Horse/ Arabian, Serenity, tennessee walker, Fonzi, paso fina mix, my love bug, etc. RVHR has 30 horses waiting for their forever homes. All these horses brought me out of depression and gave me unspeakable joy. I am diagnosed with ADD, depression and anxiety. I can really relate to all the animals at RVHR. I know what it is like to be abandoned, physically and mentally abused, ignored and no interaction with their human caretakes. If it wasn't the animals in my life as a child to bring love and understanding, I don't know where I would be today. Thank you Pat for taking that step of faith and creating Roanoke Valley Horse Rescue for everyone to walk away with a deeper understanding and appreciation about horses and all animals who need our love and touch.

In 2010 the Humane Society in my area referred me to Pat Muncey when I needed help with several neglected horses. I had been in the area only seven years and wasn't aware that a particular person had neglected animals for a very long time. I called Pat and she immediately went to work. She contacted animal control and over time several horses, a pony and two cows were seized and taken to Pat's Sanctuary. The Court did not return the animals to their owner and Pat is now trying to find loving homes for them. Through all of this, Pat kept me informed of everything concerning the case, including court dates. If it hadn't been for Pat's involvement, I am convinced nothing would have been done to help these animals, and they would have starved to death. I am very glad I now I have someone I can call on who will take immediate action and do everything she can to help large animals. Thank you Pat for all of your help!

We could not find land/farm anywhere within reasonable distance of his new job. I didn't want to advertise my 2 rescue donkeys for sale because most folks want to use them as protectors of cattle or worse yet, use them for roping practices; providing no vet care or shelter. I wasn't about to let these animals be subjected to anything like that as they were "my boys" and had been well taken care of and loved. They were my pets. One day last year during the height of winter (snow on the ground, roads icy and the temperature very cold) I saw Pat Muncy working to get the horses fed. Having just taken care of two horses at my place and seeing the exhaustion on her face I told my husband "when I retire I am going to help that woman". I have been volunteering at the rescue since November 2010. I had no idea the extent that Pat goes to for the care of the horses. They receive grain, hay, farrier care and medical care. Some of these animals have special needs that require more costly upkeep, such as more expensive feed due to age or heath. I have seen first hand the dedication Pat and the volunteers have for the welfare of the horses. Since I have been going to the rescue I have personally seen two horses saved that would have probably been put down had it not been for Pat's sheer determination to save them. There are three blind horses at the rescue that would amaze anyone with the way they have bonded to each other and the way they respond to people. In truth there are so many stories that are so heartwarming that I wouldn't know where to begin. Horses that have been so mistreated that now trust people. I pray that the rescue continues to receive the help it so richly deserves and can continue to save these starved and mistreated animals.

I first became familiar with Pat Muncy and the rescue about three years ago when I visited the farm with an Equine Vet I worked with. We did some routine work at the facility on some horses that needed Vet care. I was impressed with the great undertaking this woman had taken on. Each and every day she works her fingers to the bone helping "Throw away horses." I hate to put it this way for it seems so sad to see people use horses and when something happens they sometimes are so quickly discarded. I have been a small farm horse breeder for most of my adult life and worked in the Equine health care field for approx. 12 years now. I know how much work both physically and mentally this job can require and Mrs. Muncy never gets to stop. She has to continually work, feeding at least twice daily, making sure the horses have fresh, clean water, in the winter its grueling busting ice and making sure the water is not frozen, cleaning and mucking paddocks and stalls, pushing a heavy wheel barrow through the difficult elements of mud, rain, snow and ice. She also has to spend her time treating wounds, giving meds, soaking feet, grooming, stocking heavy bags of feed and hauling hay bales around. Not to mention going out and stacking and hauling several hundred bales back to the barn and stacking it again in a covered dry area where it is again hauled each day out to feed. She spends her evenings scheduling professional caregivers when it is above her expertise, Farriers, Dentist, Vets, also trainers and others that hopefully can come and help out with extra duties that come up. On a horse farm the work truly never ends. It can even be a 24 hour job if one gets sick, you must walk a colicky for hours to keep it from lying down and rolling from the pain and literally twisting the intestines which can cause death. This is just a small example of duties of just the physical demands she and her small group of Volunteers perform on a daily basis. The mental challenges can also be extreme, for if you’re a horse lover, each horse has its own special personality and gives you such joy to be able to take care of them, feed and nurture them. When one is sick, in pain and suffering you are too. It can be awful to not have the means to provide medical care, feed or whatever else these horses need to live out their lives in a comfortable, loving and nurturing home until their natural passing time comes. I have one horse at my farm that belonged to my daughter in her younger days and Skippy took the best care of my baby girl, teaching her to be responsible for all these duties. In return, he taught her to be a wonderful rider amoung many other things.
Skippy took her on many, many miles of steep mountain climbs, busy parades with loud engines roaring and people screaming in the streets as he calmly toted her along the route with everything from bunny ears to tin cans tied on to his tail. Skippy always brought her home safely back to me. She'd have a smile as big as her face proclaiming how much she loved that horse, because to her he was her hero. Of course I couldn't agree more he was taking such good care of the most important thing in my life, my gem, my baby! I was so glad she was growing and becoming a responsible young woman. You see Skippy was teaching her and giving so much back in return for her love and care. Today she is in her first year of Law School and I contribute part of her determination and sucess to her friend, Skippy. He came back to our farm after being sold when she started high school. His owner called and said she didn't know what to do with him now that her girls had all gone to college. He spent several years working at a rehab for disabled persons and he was used as a gentle horse to help rehab patients. He pulled his back and had run out of places to go by the age of 20. I hooked up my trailer and left the same day I got the phone call he needed a home. He will always be welcome at my home. A lot of there horses don't have places like our Skippy. Most of these horses are special as Skippy, they are just forgotten over the years and I am so grateful to the Rescues that take these needy horses in at a down time of their lives. Who else would work so hard and provide so much? Pat Muncy and the RVHR. Please consider the constant haven she provides and give her the much deserved funds to help her take care of so many that have been sadly forgotten. After all, they are not a broken down tricycles. They have heart, and a spirit that made them someones hero! The horses need your help. They need the RVHR and Pat Muncy.

Several years ago a friend called me to ask if I would be interested in taking on a rescue pony. The day we went out to see the ponies we realized that these miniature ponies were being left, stallions and mares together, to roam in knee deep mud and had never been handled in their lives. I had only been debating taking one home to help care for it and find it a new home, but seeing them in the paddock like that broke my heart and I ended up taking home three, two young mares and one of them with a filly at her side. I spent over a year handling these ponies and trying to turn their health around. One mare and the filly were very responsive to my work and after a great year with them it was time to find them new homes. The mother of the filly was much harder to help. After a year of very slow progress in her health, including a miscarriage due to her poor health and from being in foal at the time I took her, she still showed little progress in her handling and ground training. I did not feel comfortable enough to find an appropriate home for her on my own. I turned to RVHR because I knew that their adoption contract specifies that if the placement of an adopted animal does not work out, the horse or pony must be returned to their facility. After speaking with Pat Muncy about the miniature pony mare, she agreed that it sounded like it was for the best for me to bring her to the rescue as an owner release in order to ensure that she was placed in the most appropriate home and that if things did not work out they would always be able to get her back. I am so grateful that the rescue is available in situations like this. I do not want to imagine what may have happened to this pony if she had ended up in an inappropriate home. If she hurt someone she could have ended up being abused, being sent to auction, or worse. The rescue made it possible to ensure the safety and well-being of this mare for the rest of her life.

In this time of economic crisis we must make a conscious decision to help the animals who have served us so well for so long. Horses are dependent on us for all their needs and have so much to give back in terms of love and companionship. I applaud all those who help selflessly to fulfill the basic needs of these beautiful animals. I sponsored a horse and visited this facility and appreciate all those who work long and hard for the welfare of these rescued horses.

I’m a middle-aged woman whose affection for horses began at an early age. Seeing horses grazing in local pastures; portrayed in films/TV (remember Silver, Mr. Ed, Fury, Black Beauty?); and visiting the stalls at an annual horse show in my community, fueled a false notion that, generally, horses are well fed, healthy and, of course, loved. However, TV reality shows and news stories uncovering cases of animal cruelty and neglect have jarred my naivete.

I became aware of the Roanoke Valley Horse Rescue a few years ago and contacted founder/president Patricia Muncy to inquire about volunteering at the facility. Though I was all heart and no skills, Patricia let me come. From observing Patricia’s natural horsemanship and vast knowledge of the care and rehabilitation of horses, I’ve gained great respect for RVHR and its purpose. For those who can no longer care for their horse and thus relinquish ownership to RVHR, I feel compassion, but I cannot fathom the heart that intentionally withheld food, shelter and basic care from these wonderful animals. So many of the horses brought to RVHR are underweight, limping on misshapen/diseased hooves, and distrustful of the human hands desiring to soothe them. I have spent a lifetime wanting a horse, yet, these horses were not wanted. Also a horse’s pedigree does not protect it from neglect and abuse. Thoroughbreds, Arabians, Quarter Horses, Appaloosas, mini’s, mules, and everything in between are among the residents.

To house, feed and give medical care to such a herd is a huge undertaking that requires a great deal of manpower and financial backing. Just this past weekend the sound of hammers hitting wood could be heard over the whinnies of horses as new construction was going up to provide much needed shelter. In warm weather, Patty is working for weeks on end in donated hay fields-- cutting and baling hay in an endeavor to lower the cost of feeding the herd. But then, cost of fuel to run the tractors and to haul hay back to RVHR, equipment maintenance, and facility repairs cut into any savings.

Yes, I scoop poop, but I have also been given the privilege to work one on one with a horse to gradually establish trust and teach basic ground manners, and to groom a horse that only the week before could not be touched. Now as I watch horses munching hay or tenderly treading on sore feet, I hope that my small contributions of time and money will make a difference for them.

Funny . . . I now have all the horses I could want, but its definitely not the way I wanted.

I have had the awesome chance to work with Pat the founder of RVHR for over 7 years. I have seen her compassion with horses that is beyond belief. She has rehabilitated horses that would have ended up in horrible places because of behavior, neglect or health issues. We have adopted four horses from the rescue and they are great animals. RVHR gives so much to helping these horses not only through financing, but the number of hours spent working with them. Our 4H club has also been blessed to be able to work with the rescue.

I have had the pleasure of visiting RVHR. They are a wonderful organization that gives 150% to the care and welfare of rescued horses. I have seen horses come to them that you would think "no way this animal is going to make it the shape it is in from continuous abuse and mistreatment. These folks take these horses and give them love and the best care they could ever have. The people that run he Horse Rescue give up having things themselves just to buy the food and medication and Veterinary care these mistreated horses need. I would love to these folks win the sweepstakes so they could provide even more wonderful care for these animals. Thank you for your consideration.

This non-profit is fantastic. While I was in college I volunteered here for about 2.5 years. Patricia Muncy, the President of the rescue, really knows horses. She lives and breathes horses. Any horse who is lucky enough to come here will be taken well care of until an appropriate caregiver comes to take them home.

Over my time volunteering here, I learned a lot about horses I didn't even realize I didn't know. I assisted in rescuing horses, caring for horse, and even training some of the horses. It was a valuable experience and I would wish anyone who thinks they know horses to volunteer here and learn everything they can from Patricia Muncy.

During my time volunteering here, I did meet the horse of my dreams, Gavin. He was a rescue horse whom after spending time with, I decided to give a permanent home. He was wonderfully taken care of and the caregiver application process was very easy to understand. Overall, I would recommend this organization to anyone who wants to learn more about horses (or thinks they know about horses) or to anyone who is looking to own their own horse. Save a life and become a caregiver instead of buying a fancy horse. These horses are wonderful and just need some patience and love to show their true potential.
