I have to say that when they do receive instruction it is very good instruction. Teacher is stricter than other instructors and it shows in the talent. But that also is where the problem is. Their main focus is performances. If your child is newer they are literally excluded and told to go to the back of the class. They do not receive instruction there. They are left there to keep themselves busy. The teacher told me that if they dance or don't dance that is up to them. She can't be staying on top of it. Well mine does dance but feels completely left out and excluded. From now until late August when they have a performance the focus will be on the students that she deems are qualified to perform and make their dance company look good. So for over 4 months my child will stand in the back because she is newer and not receive instruction. We are Mexican, our focus should be to teach and instruct all students that sign up. So our culture is passed down, new ones and more experienced alike. This is a beginner class. Teacher has a very brash way of communicating. She cuts people off won't listen to anything anyone has to say. It's very much a take it or leave it kind of environment. There is almost like a class mom that is in place because the teacher doesn't want to deal with parents. It is not like this in other classes, by far. At least not the one that we attended previously. And left only because the teacher was injured and could not teach for a few months. I am taking my child where she will be given proper instruction and will be taught as a student and not looked at as a trophy to be won or to bring in more business. Because after performances there is an influx of new students. It is important to me that she know my culture and it should be to them too. Could you imagine school teachers doing this because they deem your child doesn't know enough? Isn't that their job to teach? She doesn't even wear folklorico shoes when she instructs. Other teachers do this. And they dance along with the class through the whole class.

I had just graduated high school in 1997. Two months after graduating, I found myself pregnant. Found out the pregnancy had caused a very large cyst, the size of a grapefruit, on my ovary. I was told by my doctor, the chances of being pregnant, after this emergency operation, was slim. That felt kind of like a relief to me, I was 18 years old, had alot going for me, and this was very much a curveball to my life! I had seen the ultrasound of my baby, prior to surgery, and thought, well, it wasn't your time, little one. I went through surgery, and everything came out as expected. I was told I would bleed alot, as I was losing the baby. 2 weeks later, on Christmas Eve, I went in to have my stitches removed from the laperoscopy. They did an ultrasound to see how I was healing inside......that's when we saw, there was still a baby! Not one, but two! They were alive and kicking! I immediately asked the doctor how this could be, as I had been bleeding heavily! The docs only response was, I may have had triplets, and lost the 3rd. Naturally, being 18 years old, knowing I have twins inside me, I had alot to think about! My parents were very supportive! They told me, research all your options! After you researched everything, we will back you on any decision you make! That's when I found Alternative Avenues in Ontario! They were so informative on any and all decisions I had! I chose to keep my beautiful baby girls! I went to every meeting until the twins were about 6 months old. I loved the idea of earning points for helping other moms, giving clothes and food to others that needed it for their babies! This group helped me more, in my unimaginable time of need, than any other non profit organization I could ever think of! To date, my twins are 22 years old, one is now out of the Army, the other twin went to college and is in the restaurant business. Thank you Alternative Avenues for being a huge part of making the best decision of my life, and having 2 Beautiful babies turn into great pillars of society!
